Chapter Text
“Wow Kacchan, your quirk is so cool!”
Izuku and Katsuki were at the park near their school, and in their world of superpowers, his best friend could, of course, create explosions.
For anyone who didn’t know the blonde, this would have been a cool quirk in of itself, but once you knew the boy, it was very clear how well it fit.
“Of course it is Deku. It’s mine, and I am gonna use it to be the best hero there ever was, greater than even all might!” He said as small explosions ripped from his palms, making noticeable bang noises as he tried out his new quirk.
Izuku laughed lightheartedly at his friend,
“Ha, once I get my quirk you are gonna have to get past me first!” He exclaimed, voice raised slightly to speak over the explosions noise.
“Oh you’re on!” Katsuki yelled as he aimed his hand to the sky and let off the loudest and biggest explosion yet, knocking him flat on his ass.
Izuku stood shocked for a moment before the friends made eye contact and burst out laughing at each other, enjoying the moment before they both had to head home.
And they talked about the new quirk all the way there.
—————————————
Almost 3 months later, and the 2 were once again talking quirks, but not about Katsuki’s for once.
“So Deku, what do you think your quirk is gonna be?” Katsuki asked, after another victory in heroes smash.
“I don’t know, but I hope I can get dad’s fire breathing!”
“Why the hell would you want to get that assholes quirk? He left before you were even born!“ the anger for Izuku from his friend warmed his heart.
However,
“Kacchan, you can’t say things like that!”
“Why not? It’s accurate.”
“Yeah mean, I guess, but you still shouldn’t swear!”
That got barely a ‘tsk’ in acknowledgment before he fired back.
“Answer the question Deku!”
“I just wanted to be like you, so we could be similar when we’re heroes!” Izuku exclaimed, a huge smile on his face and he looked to his friend.
Katsuki looked shocked for a moment, before an almost feral grin spread across his face to match Izuku’s.
“Well in that case, beat me in a round and we’ll see if I have room in my agency when I become number one for you.” He challenged as he pulled up a 1v1 match.
“Oh you’re on!” Izuku laughed as they both chose their characters and went at it.
—————————————-
The next morning Izuku slowly opened his eyes, letting the warmth of his bed surround him for a little longer before he launched himself out of bed and exited his room.
As he moved down the hall he heard his mother in the kitchen making breakfast, and he quickened his pace till he came around the corner.
“Hiii mom!” He almost shouted as he went to go sit at the table.
“Morning Izuku, how was my birthday boys sleep?”
“It was so good, slept like a baby!” He smiled as he sat down before his mother turned to face him.
“Well that’s goo- oh my goodness!” She cut herself off in surprise as she looked at Izuku.
“What’s wrong?” He asked, tilting his head. As his mother held a hand over her mouth.
“Go look in the mirror Izuku, seems your first gift came early!” She said with a smile.
Izuku’s eyes lit up as he bolted to the bathroom and looked into the mirror.
But instead of his normal verdant green, sheer blue met his gaze, and sitting on his face was a weird mask, with the texture of what felt like wood when he touched it.
It was split in a jagged pattern down the middle, one side a shadowy black and the other a soft white and in the centre of his forehead was what appeared to be 2 exaggerated halves of a split Yin and Yang, the white side on the black and the black on the white.
The black was on the right half of his face while the white took up his left side. The left side was more rounded with a rounded floppy ear folded down along the edge of the mask while the right was angular and sharp with a shorter and pointed ear which stood upright against on the edge as well.
There was little change to the rest of his body other than his skin now being a neutral grey in colour.
“Mom, I have a quirk!” Izuku shouted as he ran back into the kitchen to hug his mother.
He had a feeling this was going to be the start of something great.
