Variety

Summary:

Miranda is caught reading something new!

Notes:

Hello everyone! Sorry to be absent for so long! Life as usual has a way of making it’s demands known. But I am popping in here to let you know that I do have an original work up on another platform. Self-published and all mistakes are mine. It is an age gap relationship inspired by our ladies. It’s free for download from KU although you can order a soft cover if you like! Give it a try! Thank you! If you’re interested please try the links below! AO3 will not allow me to post specifics. Thank you! As always thanks go out to UltraStreep for being the Beta I need!

Work Text:

Variety by StormAshke

Miranda tugged at the neck of her cowl neck sweater and reread the passage of the book she was holding in her hand. A new author, self-published…normally she wouldn’t have even looked at it but Nigel knew this writer and had asked Miranda’s opinion. Not her normal Friday night reading but it was rapidly turning into something she was really enjoying.
It also sparked a few thoughts in her mind. Just then she looked up when she heard the Townhouse door open and a beloved voice called out, “Honey, I’m home and I have scavenged the mean city streets for dinner!”

Her heart fluttering at the arrival of her lover back home from walking the beat as a city reporter, Miranda smirked and looked up just as Andy walked in carrying a pizza box. “You scavenged…pizza? You know, every time it is your turn for take out you return with a greasy box of cardboard with something vaguely representing sauce in a circular form.”

Andy snorted, “Mmmhm, and every time I do you pretend not to like it and then you get disappointed if I haven’t brought home your favorite.”

Miranda’s eyes lit up, “Pineapple, hamburg, and pepper?” she asked hopefully.

Andy laughed, the sound livening up the whole townhouse, “Hey, I know how to treat my girl!” She handed over the box and went into the kitchen to retrieve plates and napkins while Miranda inspected Mama Luponi’s latest creation.

“Mmm, you do at that,” Miranda grinned up as Andy approached her and leaned down for her welcome home kiss. “Hey, what are you reading?” Andy asked, spying the soft cover book shoved out of the way down the side of Miranda’s chair.

Miranda waved a hand, casually as she served herself two slices, “Something one of Nigel’s friends has self-published on Amazon of all places.” Andy plopped down on the sofa and held her hand out for the book while she snagged three slices from the box of now seriously depleted carb laden happiness.

“What’s it about?” Andy asked around a mouthful of mozzarella.

“That’s just the thing,” Miranda replied thoughtfully, “It’s about a great many things. Self-image, romance, drama…”

“Smut.” Andy supplied, helpfully.

Miranda flung a pillow at Andy, “Yes, smut of a different kind actually. This delves into a different look at the Dominant and Submissive community. It’s called Leatherbound.

Andy laughed until she realized Miranda was serious, “Wait…you’re reading…and apparently enjoying a book about a D/S relationship?”

Miranda tried to look offended around her flaming cheeks, “Well, I mean…”

Andy set her plate down on the coffee table between them, “Are you saying this is something you’d like to try?”

“I mean, obviously, more research would need to be done and…and…”

Andy stood and scooped up the book from Miranda’s side and opened to the book-marked page her eyes growing wide as she read for a few moments, “Phew! Getting a little steamy in here!”

“Umm, yes.” Miranda answered, watching Andy for any sign of which way this might go. “Variety is the spice of life and while I am absolutely not saying we are lacking in any part of our romantic endeavors…”

“There’s no harm in exploring within the safe confines of our relationship?” Andy supplied without looking up from the book.

Miranda sagged back into her chair, “Yes, exactly that.”

Just then the doorbell rang, and Miranda rose hastily glad of the excuse and walked to the door. On the doorstep she found a small box from Amazon addressed to her.

“I did not order anything,” Miranda said, puzzled, as she turned in the foyer to find that Andy had joined her.

“You didn’t,” Andy’s chocolate eyes glowed with anticipation and delight, “I did.

Miranda opened the box. Nestled inside on a bed of red satin was a black silk blindfold, and a black riding crop.

Miranda looked up, startled as Andy stepped forward and slid her arms around Miranda nuzzling her suggestively, “You aren’t the only one Nigel talks to. I read that book last week!”
