Chapter Text

Knock, Knock, Knock

“Who could that be?” thought The Doctor to herself. She had just dropped the Fam back home and was just about to take off for parts unknown. Walking slowly to the door, she opened it and peered outside with an inquisitive expression. Her eyes widened in shock to see a woman's body laying there on the ground right in front of the Tardis. She was wearing a long shimmering white dress with a matching long sleeved coat. More shocking then her presence was the familiar golden curls framing her face.

“River.” whispered The Doctor, kneeling down to caress her wife's face gently, touch careful as if she was afraid River would disappear. She froze, stunned to find that River wasn't breathing. Knowing it was a risk to both of their timelines, The Doctor gently but quickly pulled her into the Tardis, laying her out on the floor near the doors.

“Come on, River, breathe.” prayed The Doctor to herself as she did mouth to mouth on River, forcing air into her lungs. Realizing there was only one more thing she could do, The Doctor called upon her endless amount of regeneration energy from being the timeless child and placed her hands, now glowing gold like the rays of a sun, on River's temples, just like River did so long ago in Berlin and entered her mind.

A swirling vortex engulfed The Doctor, that then coalesced into a starry void

“River! River, where are you?” cried out The Doctor into the swirling void of the night sky. When suddenly she began falling. She landed face first on a green grassy field. Pushing herself up, she saw a undefined figure in the distance. Getting to her feet, she began running to the person. As she got closer The Doctor realized it was River looking as she did as a data ghost.

“River!” called out The Doctor, coming up to her and taking her hand. When River suddenly turned, suspicion and distrust in her eyes.

“Who are you and how did you get in here?” demanded River pulling away.

“River, it's me, The Doctor. Your husband. . . er, wife.” exclaimed the Doctor, gesturing to herself. “We're running out of time. I can only keep this connection open for a short while. River, Come with me.” pleaded the Doctor, holding her hand out for River to take.

“I waited for you to save me from The Library. When it was obvious you weren't coming I broke out of there myself. So why should I come with you now?” accused River.

“That has to be my biggest regret. I failed you River, I'm sorry. Please, I know I don't deserve it, but give me another chance.” The Doctor pleaded still holding out her hand.

“Do you think this will work?” asked River.

“No prison can hold you, River, not even a prison of the mind.” said The Doctor as River silently reached out and took everything that was being offered her.

“See you soon.” said River as a flash of light engulfed them both.

Pulling out of River's mind, The Doctor collapsed next to her, golden energy still swirling around the both of them. Gazing over at the still form of her wife, a single tear ran down The Doctor's face, when suddenly River's eyes fluttered open.

“Hello Sweetie.” said River looking at the Doctor as the two of them pulled each other into a passionate kiss.
