“What the hell is this.”
It wasn’t a question. Enon’s face slowly grew redder, his face twisting with- something. Anger, probably.
“Yo- wh- he- this!”
He gestured vaguely, then snapped his head to Lusan who was standing nervously in the corner. “Get me the Commander!”
Lusan nodded, hurriedly retreating from the medical wing to find Kishiar, lest he also get yelled at by the raging doctor.
“And you-,” he spun back to face Yuder, “-who told you you could stand up? Sit back down!”
Yuder sat down.
He really wasn’t sure what the fuss was all about. Monster-based poisons only got him drunk and he would never get food poisoning from anything other than monster parts—which would have shown itself among the other Cavalry members, let alone how obvious it would have been while eating. Throwing up without a fever or poisoning was a bit strange, and multiple days of it—well, he had been prepared for a scolding to take better care of himself. He hadn’t expected whatever… this is.
Enon grabs his wrist, testing his pulse with strange focus before he pushed him flat on the cot and put his ear to Yuder’s stomach. He obediently let himself be manhandled down and then back up again as Enon forced his eyes wide to examine, then moved to his feet, hands, and chest. A strange expression came over his face after every “test” he conducted, intensifying as each one came back with what Yuder presumed was the same, affirmative result.
Finally, the careful examination he had moved on to of shecking his elbow’s skin elasticity was interrupted by the door slamming open, and Yuder saw Kishiar step in, his clear, glowing face shining even with the worry that covered it.
He stopped at Yuder’s side, and turned to Enon.
“Lusan said there was an emergency with Yuder’s health,” he said to Enon seriously.
”You!”
Kishiar seemed just as surprised as Yuder to find Enon’s accusing finger on his face.
“How could you be so irresponsible?!” Enon turned to Kishiar fully. “Take responsibility when you get someone pregnant!”
…What?
That can’t be right. It’s not possible.
“And why wouldn’t it be right,” Enon shouted at him—ah, he’d spoken aloud.
Because I’m a man, he almost said, then stopped himself. Because I’m a defective omega is his next thought but no, that isn’t right either. That was only in the first game—in this life, his smell is perfectly regular, if a bit faint at times. He can hardly claim a lack of sexual activity, nor had they ever truly used much in the way of protection, but even still. The thought of…
Whatever expression he’s making finally made Enon soften, his brows furrowing to a more regular irritation easily soothed by strategic lemon-gifting. As if on cue, Lusan’s arm snaked out from behind a medical divider with a lemon in hand. Enon’s bites into it were distinctly annoyed.
“…Pregnant,” Kishiar said quietly, looking at Enon blankly.
“Yes,” Enon bit out. “I’ve checked every possible metric, there’s no way he isn’t.”
They stared at him.
Huh.
It was three hours later that the Cavalry got a visitor in the form of one “Count Elliot” frantically demanding for the Deputy Commanders to bring him inside. He at least had the wherewithal to ask for Yuder rather than Kishiar, and claimed that he would recognize him if he only heard his name. It was true, of course, but the Deputy Commanders there seemed reluctant to leave their precious Assistant Commander to the whims of His Majesty, the “strange intruding visitor” that they didn’t recognize. Indeed, Yuder was sure the sight would have brought Kishiar to laughter if he didn’t still seem so shocked where he was holding him in the medical bed.
All that meant was that they were in silent privacy when Keilusa burst through the door and bee-lines straight for Yuder’s other side.
“How do you feel? Tell me what you need and I’ll get it for you. We can always import anything we don’t have right now,” he said in a rush, gripping his arm supportively. “Faria is keeping the nobles distracted—just say the word and it’ll be here.”
Then he turned.
“What are you doing sitting around? Get up and help! Bring me your wedding plans! We don’t have time for you to be idling!”
That seemed to snap Kishiar out of his stupor as he hugged Yuder tighter and asked, “Wedding plans?”
Keilusa narrowed his eyes. “I know you have the outfits and decor drafted. We need them sent to the royal tailors and crafters fast enough to be prepared before things get visible. Unless-,” and at this, his eyes turned to slits, “-you weren’t planning on marrying him, even after all this.”
Instead of responding to him, Kishiar turned to Yuder.
“Do you mind me designing the clothing,” he asked, rubbing his thumb in gentle circle over the back of his hand where they had both locked fingers.
Yuder blinked.
“That’s fine.”
“…Do you want to get married?”
Hm.
He imagined Kishiar in wedding clothes-
“Yes.”
Kishiar nodded, eyes back to their usual sharpness, if a bit clouded. “I’ll get the drafts out and finish the final detailing. Please let Enon check you over to his content, even if you feel fine.”
Yuder sighed but accepted the request. He doubted there was anything he hadn’t already checked, but he didn’t need his hyung and his love both fretting because he missed the extra minute of testing.
He was sure everyone would settle back down by the week’s end.
Ever stared at him, horrified betrayal across her face.
“You’re what?”
“Going on a mission.”
Her face did something strange and he saw her make a gesture towards Kanna behind her back. “Did the Commander approve this mission?”
“Of course,” he said. Kishiar always approved the missions before Yuder decided who to send on them. He just didn’t see why this was noteworthy enough to question now after so long in the Cavalry
Kanna brushed arms with Ever and jumped up, staring at him with wide eyes, then seemed to collect herself again.
“You can’t go, Yuder!”
Well. Maybe not that collected, then.
Still, he frowned. Was there something Kanna knew that hadn’t reached the Commander yet?
He asked her as much, and she shared a glance with Ever. “Uh, yes, that’s right! The Commander doesn’t have all the details yet, I was just about to go talk to him.”
“What information is missing,” Yuder asked.
“Well, that, the mission is actually…that is, the mission is really-“
Ever nodded wildly from next to her.
“-really easy!”
Her head snapped to stare at Kanna, who steadfastly ignored her.
“So that’s why it’s better used as a training mission. Since it’s so easy. Anyone could do it. I needed to tell the Commander how easy it is.”
Both of them stared at him.
“…I see. I will change the assignment group, then,” he said, and they both let out a shouting that turned into a strangely loud, unusual-sounding cough.
Hm.
He wasn’t sure why the Cavalry members all started training even past the end of the routine he made them. Maybe he needed to increase the difficulty.
