Flightless Birds

Summary:

The Robins are birds. They all were before their wings were cut and became flightless birds. Their wings grew back but now very different.

Inspired (and title) from the song Flightless birds from Bubble Guppies

Work Text:

The first bird was the first of the first. He was the one who started the trend. He was a becon of hope, the light to the bats dark. Until he wasn't. The light of the bat started to dim. A new bird was introduced to the nest, brought by the bat. This bird was brighter, fuller, happier, younger. The bat said he was to pass down his role as chick and now become a fully grown bird. The first bird didn't want this. The first bird wanted to stay. He started to hate the second bird. He said it was his decision when to give the role of chick because it was his first. The bat didn't listen. The bat ripped the first birds wings and kicked him from the nest.

The second bird was never as happy when he saw the bat rip the first bird of his wings, he was unsure he wanted to be the chick. Still, he stayed. He became the chick. The first bird didn't come back to the nest. The second bird wanted the first to come back, so the first can be happy with them. But the first never came. Then the second bird saw his old mom. The mom he had when he was with his old nest. He went without the bat, wanting to make amends with his old mom. The second bird's mom betrayed him. She sold him the the Joke. The Joke fried and burned the second bird that day. His wings broken beyond repair.

The third bird came to the nest on his own. He told the bat he knew who the bat was and the bat took him under his wing. The bat was harsh on this particular bird. Tests and calculations every turn. The bird's mate supposedly "dead" on the bird's day of hatching. All for the title of the chick. Years after tests and heartbreak the bird was kicked from the nest. Leaving his old tattered wings and title of the chick to be filled. The nest was empty once more.

Another bird came but only for a short while. The fourth bird was different. She had yellow feathers unlike the black ones the other birds possessed. She was troubled as well, taking matters into he own hands before the bat ripped her of her wings and kicked yet another bird form the nest.

This last bird was special. The fifth and last bird was angry. He was dark like the bat, not bright like the chicks are supposed to be. He struggled. He came from a place of torture and killing, very much unlike the bat. The bat was not pleased with this chick. The bat had been gone for some time and he was met with a new chick. This chick had a temper, he didn't bend at will for the bat. He was stiffer than steel. He took pride in being the bats only "real" bird but the bat didn't think the same. In fact he hated the fifth bird. But the fifth bird stayed. Hoping to get the approval from the bat. It never came. It wasn't until when the old grey fox died under the crying eyes of the fifth bird, that the bird had enough of the bat. The bat blamed the fifth bird for the grey fox's death. So the bird ripped of the chick suit and walked away. Leaving the bat in solitude forever more.

The other birds heard the news of the fifth bird leaving the chick role and celebrated. The bat was no longer in control of them. The bat was alone. But that's what he always wanted right?
