I am not the luckiest person around. Not trying to reverse-brag here, but who the hell else can claim that their precious time on this earth was ended by some guy losing a hammer out of his tool belt because it was old and frayed. For reference, he was on the 52nd floor of a high rise fixing an air conditioner. And the hammer hit me fair on the head. Apparently that sort of knowledge just comes with you after death. I would almost prefer instant oblivion. Speaking of oblivion, I am beginning to worry about the expanse of lights around me. I was hoping this was more a waiting room, not the rest of eternity, but nothing seems to be changing much. As though responding to my thoughts though, a wall of text appeared.

Man this thing is excitable. But hold on, Highschool DXD?! As in the anime? That place is full of multiple gods, an ongoing war between three extremely powerful factions, and fucking dragon gods! The harem and ecchi stuff kind of hid it a lot of the time, but that world is a freaking nightmare for a regular human!
No need to worry! You will be given access to the Multiversal Gacha, with three tickets to start you off!

The Gacha can provide skills, traits, abilities, familiars or even items from across the multiverse! There is a ranking system, and better quality tickets have a better chance of pulling better results! Once you are reincarnated, you will have access to a system that will award you tickets based on your accomplishments or tasks completed. For now, you will be given a Gold level ticket for Ability, Skill and Trait.
Guess I just hope these are good results. Pull the levers!

Penetrate: Allows you to augment your abilities with penetration, allowing them to better ignore resistances and bypass immunities. The main use is to bypass immunities. With Penetrate even a lich can be cursed and a fire dragon burnt.

If it is possible for a floating consciousness to start hyperventilating, I do. What is that shit? Penetrate may be alright, at SOME point, but I don’t have any combat skills so now it is worthless. On a different note, not going to complain about the super sexy girls of Highschool DXD finding me at least a bit attractive at least, but it still won’t help me if I’m dead! Jack of All Trades? That last line is just throwing my meagre hope back in my face while flipping me the bird. System, please tell me that there is some way I can get a do-over or another starting ticket?

With magical power, thunder can be manifested to augment the style.

I wake up in bed. My bed, presumably. I look around and it is pretty nondescript. White furniture, a full length mirror in the corner, a bookshelf lined with books, a closet stuffed with…boxes? I notice as I turn to look at things that my hair is reaching below my shoulders, nearly to the middle of my back. With a deep breath I get up and have a look at myself in the mirror. What I see looking back at me is a teen girl, hair still wild from bed, with a set of white cotton pyjamas on. My face is pretty cute, I’d say, with big blue eyes and messy but luscious dark hair. My body is fairly slim and modestly curved. I may not be competing with the frankly ridiculous proportions of the harem princess Rias or Akeno, but definitely not going to be left in the dust by all the beauties in the DxD world.

Right that was a little bit of weird vanity there, gauging how hot I am. Best to move on from that. I move around my room, checking the contents of the boxes without finding the uniform I will probably be needing this morning. Weirdly, I can feel that my balance is different, with a vastly different weight distribution. Finally I pull out the Kuoh Academy girl's uniform and lay it on the bed, looking at the short skirt and vest that seemed mainly designed to draw attention towards the wearer's breasts. Sitting down next to it, I take a bit of a breath, looking back at the girl in the mirror across the room. So I am a girl now, and from what the gacha said, even though this is a world of gods and all sorts of magic, nothing will be changing me back to a guy. With a mental salute to see off my little soldier, my eyes are drawn to my reflection again. I wasn't exactly a virgin, but I never really imagined being on the, umm, receiving end of things. Not really sure if I am up for that.
Besides, from what I remember of Lady Killer and Sensual Presence, there wasn't any restriction based on gender, so even though I am a girl now, I'll apparently be turning on the girls in this universe. Better than the alternative, in my opinion. My fingers start toying with the buttons on my PJs and with a sudden surge of Just fucking get it over with
and yanked the shirt open and take it off, staring at my naked chest and looking at my chest, pink nipples slowly stiffening in the open air as I gently cup them. They are actually heavier than I thought they would be, somehow, though it isn't as exciting as I thought it would be, probably because they are, you know, attached to me. I open one of the boxes I saw with different underwear packed in and take out a simple purple bra and begin wrestling to get it on.
Five minutes later, I figure out I was making it way too difficult for myself, and just connect the bra around my midsection with the clips in front of me, spin the bra around and then just pull it up to settle my boobs into the cups. Thankfully, getting a clean pair of panties on is way simpler. As I start figuring out how to get the uniform on correctly, my mind wanders to what happens in this series. First step will be figuring out exactly where in the timeline of the show I am, then working on a plan. Ideally, I can find a way to get myself into Rias's peerage. Becoming a Devil gets me access to magic, enhances my abilities and while the other factions technically could offer similar benefits to anyone, Rias and her group are more well known to me. In a situation like this where I am a weird creature that will (apparently) keep developing random powers and abilities without explanation, I probably have the best chance of convincing them to believe me. Speaking of, I wonder how I can see this gacha system now that I am here. At the thought, the information filled my mind.

Okay, so that’s my name, I suppose. My name was Kaoru so I guess that makes sense. Seems a little lazy but who am I to criticise some all powerful god/system. After looking through my desk, I find the acceptance letter from Kuoh Academy. Matching the date to my phone, looks like I’m a brand new transfer, whose parents appear to work away most of the time, which is convenient. I only just moved here, explaining the boxes. Finished dressing now, I check myself out in the mirror. As is probably the point of the Kuoh Academy uniform, I look pretty hot in it. Nothing else for it but to head to school, since I don't have a better option to figure out when I came into things. Let's do this. Time to go to school in a harem anime world designed for one of the all time great pervy MCs. Well screw being some NPC or one of Issei's harem members. Issei, you try and lay a hand on my boobs, and protag or not, we are going to have some problems.
Now I didn’t like to think of myself as a total horn dog or anything, but it would not be inaccurate to say I had enjoyed the Kuoh Academy female uniform while watching the series. The super short skirts that dish out panty shots by the dozen, the vest to highlight the girl’s boobs at all time. Even in my room I admired it on my new body.
Wearing it outside while walking to school, I cursed whatever sick excuse for a school board thought this was a good uniform idea. My skirt seemed to always be flirting with showing off my upper thighs if not my panties to random people I passed, and of course every guy's eyes went to my chest before my face, even though I still didn't think that my endowment was anything too special in this world. From the tag on the bra I was wearing, I now knew I was a 32C cup, which I didn't think landed me anywhere near the massive boobs of Rias and Akeno, though gauging it I was definitely larger than Asia, certainly Koneko. It was difficult even with a mirror to view my own boob size objectively, I guess.
Despite the harrowing walk in, I did feel a little amazed as I walked up to the school, seeing the building in front of me exactly like the show. Being the ‘new girl’ I followed the signs to the administration office to get a class schedule. I kept an eye out as I walked through the school halls and didn’t manage to see any of Rias’s Occult Research Club members, though there was a super loud group of girls I noticed at one point that may have been crowding around Kiba. After getting my schedule and a helpful map, I eventually arrived at my homeroom. I entered and was introduced as a transfer student. Abruptly the teacher was interrupted by an “Aw hell yeah! Transfer hottie inbound!” that was probably meant to be quieter than it actually was. Most of the girls groaned and looked pointedly away from a trio at the back. Apparently I was in the same class as one Issei Hyoudou, protagonist of this world and soon to be devil and Red Dragon Emperor. Who was currently high-fiiving his pervy friends at the notion of me joining the class. I sighed and moved to the open desk provided, still super careful to avoid flashing anyone as I settled into the chair, trying not to squirm at the weird feeling of my hairless legs brushing against each other as I sat down and kept my legs together. Then some of the pervy trio’s conversation again made it to my ears and my hair suddenly felt like it was standing on end.
“Come on you guys. I’m not going to be perving on every girl in school anymore. I have a girlfriend now, what would Yuuma think?” I heard Issei saying. My mind starting going a hundred miles an hour. Okay, pretty sure that Raynare disguised herself as Yuuma and asked Issei to be her boyfriend one day, then the next day was a school day where he introduced his girlfriend to his friends. That afternoon Yuuma asked him to go on a date with her next Sunday, and he agreed. That was where they spent the day together on a date, and Raynare/Yuuma killed him at sunset. Meaning if Issei was talking about (bragging to) his friends about his girlfriend, then maybe this afternoon is when they will set up the murder date. The news still seems new to his friends, so that could be right. I surreptitiously check my phone. Friday today. So worst case, they have their date in two days time.
I was kind of hoping I would have come into the world before the show started, not afterwards. Even now that I had Phase Shift as an offensive option, I wasn’t sure it would let me take on a Fallen Angel like Raynare, and Thunder Breathing would only help if I had a sword. Those were really my only two combat options right now, and apart from them I was baseline human. I could just leave events to proceed as normal, I mean after all Issei dies and has his heart broken, but is then revived as a devil and put on track to be the hero of this story. Then again, what if the whole butterfly effect of me being here has already thrown things off and it doesn’t play out that way? On a more selfish note, I still figured my best chance to get on stable footing in this new life would be to become part of Rias’ Peerage, and if I was going to be one of them, maybe I’d prefer not to have Issei making things all harem-like and looking at me like a conquest. A vague and crude plan came to my mind. High risk, high reward. If I pulled it off, then I could possibly neatly scoop the open spot as Rias's pawn out from under Issei. At the moment, she is really just looking for potential, possibly someone so talented that they may be able to give her the strength to get out of an arranged marriage to a douchebag. That settles things. I am going to make a play to save Issei's human life, and possibly try to throw this world off by taking out Raynare a little early. I'm sure Fallen Angels aren't that tough...maybe.
A/N: So there is the introductory chapter. I think I am going to like writing Kaori. For any who are not aware, I used the Chaos Gacha developed by the awesome Bronz_Deck for the tickets. The only exception was the Random Effects table…That was adapted from a DnD table and wow did it change what this story was going to be! Not going to lie though, I kind of loved the idea so I am not mad about it. I did also exaggerate slightly on the Random Effects table number of options. There is actually only 20, but that seemed like a weirdly small number for the multiversal gacha system. This is very much a first attempt at writing, and posting on AO3, so hopefully things will improve. At the very least I am enjoying myself so far, hopefully it doesn't offend due to my inexperience!
