insatiable rain

Summary:

"No matter how much I amplify her draconic impulses, she won't awaken."

An abstract drabble about what might have been Veyle in the time between Chapter 18 and 21.

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

My consciousness returned to the colourless, silent world.

I had fallen gently into a cool stream, shallow enough to stand on.

Despite being lost at the moment, I was unbothered.

As I waited, drops fell to my side, lonelier than water,
yet bleeding together all the same.

I stared up, and the lone face in the river stared back.

I had come from there.

I wondered how deep underwater or underground it had been.

Regardless, if she wasn’t here, I could follow;
as if we were chained together.

Suddenly, she fell past me, and vanished as well,
yet I remained.

Notes:

While thinking through things too much, I thought I would try a more interpretative take on this part, since the manga just got to this point in time and it doesn't look like they'll be going into this plot point further (though there's still time left to prove me wrong now that they got through two chapters in one).

But it's kind of interesting to me that Eveyle would have likely been suppressed there alone if it weren't for the helmet, regardless of what she might be, and that they only further separate from that point on.
