Heather knows Cody and Duncan’s feud shouldn’t bother her as much as it currently does. Why should it? The more conflict that occurs means her safety only increases. This should be a good thing for her.
And yet it doesn’t feel that way. Why does it feel so discomforting to see Cody act so petty towards Duncan of all people. If anything, seeing Duncan suffer should be enjoyable as hell.
Heather definitely didn’t give a shit about what Cody put Duncan through. As far as she was concerned, Duncan kinda deserved karma for cheating on his girlfriend(although she’d never admit that to Courtney’s face, it’d only inflate her ego).
Maybe it was because of Cody’s reasoning for targeting Duncan? The fact that he was still hung up on Gwen despite the fact she undoubtedly did not give a shit about him. That was probably it. Whenever Cody wasn’t constantly in pursuit of Gwen, Heather genuinely found him tolerable. Certainly more bearable than the rest of the idiots in this show.
Did she want Cody to be the best version of himself? Heather supposed that made sense. Being around a bunch of nuisances wasn’t exactly an enjoyable experience, it figures she would prefer to attach herself to the best version of one of the few people she doesn’t hate.
But only loosely of course. Heather knew she couldn’t get too attached to Cody at the end of the day. She’d start caring about the geek too much and those feelings are for weak people. She had learned that ever since she was a kid…
No, no more delving into childhood memories. That was the past. This was the present and she was much stronger now than she ever was before. She didn’t care about Cody beyond tolerance and it would stay that way.
So why was she still awake in economy class in a cold sweat at the thought of him being mauled by a dingo mere hours ago?
Heather chalked that up to basic empathy of not wanting to see another human being die, but for some reason it felt more like that. Whatever, once it was morning and the geek was lucid again, she planned to talk to him about toning down his stupid jealousy so an incident like that never happens again.
Heather knows it won’t. She knows that Cody has some form of respect for her so as long as she’s stern enough with him, he’ll listen. He’s better than his pathetic jealousy.
Suddenly Heather felt something lean against her shoulder. It was Cody, currently unconscious and was currently humming with a content smile as he leaned up against her. Heather chalked that up to him still being delirious.
Heather could’ve pushed Cody off of her and she had no qualms with doing so… but for some reason, this felt nice and if Sierra made a fuss about this, Heather could just remind her that Cody was delirious from being mauled by a dingo earlier to ease her worries.
Yeah… this was fine.
