Chapter Text
The Fort
It was the weekend after a long, really awful week of school. An overcast, chilly day, but calming. Namgyu and Thanos were hanging out in their usual spot. The rooftop of Namgyu’s family’s apartment, where they had built a fort when they were younger.
No one had the guts to take it down. Right now, though they were sitting in it, eating snacks they’d stolen from the vending machine down the road and listening to Thanos’ soundcloud raps.
Thanos, eating with his mouth open and chips spilling out, mutters, “You know if you stay a fan of mine, I’ll get you vip tickets to my shows. All of them trust me, man.”
“Yeah, hopefully you have at least one good song by then,” He says innocently, not even looking up from his sketchbook, but an obvious grin forming on his lips.
“And hopefully you get better at lying”, Thanos smirks, looking eyes with Namgyu as they both chuckle.
Namgyu shakes his head “You are the worst,” he quietly says, barely audible over his laughing. There's no real harm in what he’s saying; they both know what he really means.
They are smiling as Subong chokes out, “Tragically, here you are, so loyal, Nammy.” Namgyu’s eyes drop back to the sketch book.
They’re chill. Maybe after that comment, the laughter dies down, though, and Namgyu becomes a little withdrawn and distracted. Thanos notices straight away and debates whether he should bring it up.
They sit there for a while, the dark clouds from the afternoon getting darker and the chilly breeze becoming more apparent. Thanos chucks a blanket over his shoulders and pretends to write down song lyrics in his notebook as he watches Namgyu draw random doodles. He’d be such a good tattoo artist. Maybe he should get him to draw him a tattoo idea.
“You know the other day Minsu called our science teacher mum in front of everyone!” Thanos cackles, recalling the event and seeing the scene playing out in his head with picture-perfect detail. It plays in his mind over and over, seeing it like it’s a feature movie from the cinema. Remembering all the tiny details and he’s ready to describe it all to Namgyu, but he seems busy with his drawing, so he stops.
He watches intently, not even trying to hide it anymore. Namgyu’s hand steadily drew out shapes. The lines form into cute little pictures. One of them is a cat that they have befriended that they see on their way to school. Luna. Like from Sailor Moon.
“I love Luna, she’s so cute! Right? She’s such a little baby!” Thanos screams after noticing the picture. Namgyu rips the page over effortlessly. Chucking it outside the fort.
“Mhmm,, He replies, but it’s obvious by how he clenches his jaw that Thanos is upsetting him. But why?
There are other sketches, like cute jewellery you’d see in stores. A few pictures of them and their friends from school. Then, so suddenly, Namgyu scribbles over the page and tenses.
“Are you good?”
“I’m fine.”
“Ok, but like when you say ‘I’m fine’ like that, Namsu, it means that you're not so tell me,” Thanos says, adding a voice for the part where he is copying Namgyu. Trying to do his best impression of, and honestly, it is almost perfect.
“Can you not? For once? Just stop trying to make everything a joke.”
“...I’m not trying to. I want you to talk to me.” He really didn’t he hardly noticed that he was doing it.
“Well, it’s not like you listen when I do because who wants to here about my life?” Namgyu eyes narrow unmoving staring daggers into Subong.
“That’s not fair.” It isn’t. He doesnt mean to sound like a baby but what does Nmagyu expect he can’t say all that. Thanos tries he listens, he cares but this must’ve been the nail in the coffin because it sets Namgyu off.
“I can’t do it anymore you are too much. Everything is too much. I just can’t I’m losing it. You just don’t care.”
“Oh… wow. So that's how you feel cool cool.” Shit well what now.
