Right now, Rui was completely and utterly perplexed.
He was planning to take another all-nighter in order to perfect an enlarged version of a barrier spell to cast over the kingdom. Weaving through the intricacies of sorcery required work, and Rui was more than ready to throw away all concern for his health and well-being in order to complete said work.
Tsukasa, however, did not approve of this.
"Ruiiiii, it's late! Nothing is more important than you coming to bed into my arms right! Now!"
"I appreciate the concern, Tsukasa-kun, but you should go ahead and sleep first. You have to wake up early tomorrow, don't you?" He chuckled at his star's antics, but didn't turn around to look at him, worried that if he did he wouldn't be able to resist just going over and crashing into his embrace. Perhaps Rui was rubbing off on him too much, because the pleading eyes that Rui often weaponized against Tsukasa usually came back to bite him nowadays. He really couldn't handle how adorable and sad he looked, and Rui ended up wanting to kiss his frown away every single time.
Needless to say, Tsukasa had been absorbing a little too much of Rui's mischievousness.
"Rui. If you do not come and cuddle me now I will die. I will perish from neglect. Look what you're doing Rui." Rui did not dignify that with an answer, opting to simply continue reading through his reference books and stifling a yawn.
"You- that's it! I'm done with you!" Rui heard the sound of sheets rustling, and that was the last warning he got before being abruptly shifted off balance as if his chair had toppled over. He initially closed his eyes, bracing for impact, but when the impact never came he opened his eyes only to find himself held by a pair of strong arms.
"Got you!" Tsukasa, looking very smug, proceeded to throw a flabbergasted Rui onto the bed before joining beside him.
"T-Tsukasa-kun???" Caught off guard, Rui could do nothing but smile dumbly as he tried and failed to process what just happened. By Miku did he just get carried-
He hadn't a moment to breathe before Tsukasa hugged him from behind and undid his hairtie before burying his head into purple locks.
"Sleep. Now." Tsukasa's voice was quiet from how sleepy he was, yet Rui could hear it clearly, could feel the way it was murmured into his skin. His heart was racing and mind reeled from being shifted so suddenly, and he tried to summon up the last dregs of his resistance to talk Tsukasa, or more likely himself, out of this.
"Tsukasa, I really have to finish this now! I need to-"
"Mm... It can wait for tomorrow. Go to sleep." Tsukasa's arms tightened around him as if preventing him from escaping, but honestly, Rui felt his will to keep working deplete by the second. He had been sleeping poorly or not at all for 6 days by now, and compared to the warmth of Tsukasa's arms, his work desk seemed so much more cold and uninviting. Succumbing to his fate, Rui sighed before letting out a soft chuckle.
"Oh, Tsukasa-kun... You never fail to delight me, you know that?"
"O-Of course not! I'm a star, after all!"
"Hm~? I caught that stutter, is my star feeling a little shy now?"
"Shut up, it's 12 am. Goodnight." Tsukasa turned Rui around to shut him up with a short goodnight kiss, one that Rui accepted with a goofy smile.
"I love you, my star."
"I love you too Rui. Now go to sleep."
The night wind was cold through Rui's open window, but the sorcerer in question couldn't feel anything but warmth and safety when he was in Tsukasa's arms.
