X-wing: Renegade Squadron

Summary:

Commander Wedge Antilles won his Wraith Squadron bet. Now he has to take a shattered unit and forge them into something new and stronger than they were before, in preparation for taking on the command of his own snubfighter wing.

This is a retelling of Isard's Revenge if Wedge had been given a third X-wing squadron leading to having command of his own Wing and remaining in the cockpit of an X-wing rather than being given command of a task force with Lusankya as his flagship. It follows the Legends timeline and backstory for Wedge, Tycho, Wes and Hobbie and makes no reference to any Disney canon characters or backstory. It is fully Legends canon compliant up to the beginning of Isard's Revenge; the first couple of paragraphs are taken directly from that book.

Please note that I have made the tough decision to lock this fic to AO3 users only due to the spate of spam comments that has been hitting this and other regularly updated fics recently.

Notes:

The first bit of dialogue, between Wedge and Admiral Ackbar, is lifted directly from Isard's Revenge. Wedge should never have left Starfighter Command, this story seeks to rectify that.

Updates may be slow in coming as I'm writing this on the fly.

The information about Ralltiiri culture is all from JT and Camshaft22. I hope I've done it justice - anything that doesn't work is all mine.

I owe a huge debt to Timothy Zahn, Michael Stackpole and Aaron Allston for their part in building the Galaxy Far Far Away, especially the parts inhabited by Wedge Antilles and his pilots. They will probably never know it. May the Force be with you!

This is all 100% Legends canon compliant as far as possible, right up to Isard's Revenge which this replaces. For those unfamiliar with the Legends characters and their backstories: Wedge lost his parents in a fire at their refuelling station at Gus Treta, then was taken in by Booster Terrik, smuggled for him for a bit, including running weapons and supplies for the Rebel Alliance, joined the Alliance outright when they put in a call for pilots. Hobbie attended the Imperial Academy at Prefsbelt IV and was commissioned afterwards to the position of Executive Officer of the Rand Ecliptic where he and Biggs Darklighter led a mutiny that brought the ship to the Rebellion. Hobbie didn't fly in the Battle of Yavin due to illness, but did fly in the Battle of Hoth, surviving the ground battle and escorting one of the transports away.
