Mickey Ears On My Cupcake

Summary:

Vi discovers Caitlyn's never been to Disneyland, so of course she has to bring her!
Fluff and fun ensues.

Notes:

I feel like I have to note that while everything else about the world is set like the 2020's, the actual layouts I'm using for the park are from 2013-2016, roughly. This is just because that's how I remember Disneyland and it's a lot easier for me to write without having to work in more recent updates to the parks I never saw in person.

Hope you enjoy it!

Chapter 1: Planning

Chapter Text

Vi first brought up the idea on a Tuesday morning. She had been laying in bed in the apartment she shared with Caitlyn, watching her girlfriend get ready for the day’s work. Caitlyn’s figure was silhouetted perfectly in front of the window, the soft morning light streaming in around her as she busied herself.

Like a dream come true, Vi thought, as Caitlyn turned to smile at her, clearly enjoying her own view.

“Come on, Vi. You can’t just stay snuggled in those blankets forever,” Caitlyn teased. “I might have to join you, and then neither of us will be making it to work today!”

Vi stuck out her tongue, then heaved an exaggerated, long-suffering sigh as she detangled herself from the sheets.

“If you insist, Cupcake,” she smiled. “Though it feels like such a waste of potential bed.” She waggled her eyebrows with that statement, causing Caitlyn to laugh.

Vi heard the ping of a notification on her phone just then, and grabbed it from the nightstand beside her, quickly unlocking it to check what had come through.

Photos:
Remember This Moment?

It was one of those notifications the photos app that she shared with her family would send her every now and again, reminding her of old pictures uploaded to their account. She smiled as she glanced through these ones, taken many years ago. A thought struck her, and she looked up at Caitlyn as her girlfriend leaned over her to see what she was looking at.

“Cait, have you ever been to Disneyland?” she asked.

“I can’t say that I have, no,” Caitlyn replied, peering over Vi’s shoulder at the pictures. “Is that you? At Disneyland?”

Vi smiled at the image currently displayed. It was a photo from several years ago, featuring young, grinning versions of Vi and Powder, standing in front of a Mickey Mouse character, his hands on their shoulders, and a smiling Vander just behind.

“We used to go when we were kids,” Vi explained. “Our uncle Silco saved up enough for a trip every now and then.” She laughed. “He always insisted on taking the pictures. Said he wouldn’t trust Vander with a camera if his life depended on it.” She smiled fondly at the memories for a moment, before turning to Caitlyn. “How come you’ve never been? I’d expect a Kiramman to have a much easier time securing a trip than we ever did.” There was no bitterness in her voice, just puzzlement.

Caitlyn smiled, straightening back up. “Well, living in England, I guess we never really thought of it. And by the time we’d moved to the states, my mother insisted I was too old for such things.” Her voice took on a slightly haughty air at the end, imitating her mother’s tone with humor.

“Cupcake, this is a tragedy! There’s no such thing as too old for Disneyland!” Vi finally sprang out of bed, clasping Caitlyn’s hand in her own. “We’ll just have to go together for a vacation. We can make a date of it!” she wrapped her arms around Caitlyn’s waist as she pulled her into a playful kiss.

Caitlyn laughed, shoving the red-head off of her. “If you don’t hurry up and get ready for work, we’ll be late, and then we’ll end up too busy making up for it for a vacation!” She turned and scooped up some clothes, throwing them at Vi, who yelped as she caught them, hurrying to get ready for the day.

The next time the idea was mentioned was a Thursday. Vi, Powder, and Caitlyn were sitting at the bar in The Last Drop, waiting for Ekko to join them after their respective work. As Vi was scowling at a spot on the bar that needed refinishing, Powder nudged her, nodding towards a man who had just walked in.

“Reckon I should take Isha there someday, huh?” Powder asked.

Vi looked up, noticing the faded Disneyland shirt the man was wearing. She smiled and turned back to Powder.

“Did you know Cait’s never been?”

Powder turned to stare at Caitlyn in shock.

“British hasn’t been to Disneyland? What kind of people are your parents, anyways?” Powder swatted Vi’s shoulder. “You’ve gotta take her, like, yesterday!”

“I would enjoy that, I think,” Caitlyn said. “But Vi’s busy with the bar, and my job has been rather demanding lately…”

Vi just scoffed. “Fuck that. We’ll go for a Christmas vacation, how’s that sound? Vander won’t mind me taking off at all. And you,” she pointed accusingly at Caitlyn. “Take so little of your time off I don’t think anyone would mind if you took a break for once.”

Powder threw her arms up with a whoop. “That settles it! You’re going to love it, British.”

At that moment, Ekko walked into the bar, causing Powder to leap from her seat with a squeal, running to greet him. Ekko called into the back for Isha, and the conversation turned to other topics when he came back with the little girl in his arms.

As the weather steadily turned colder, Vi found herself drawing up rough plans for what a trip to Disneyland with Caitlyn might look like. She knew how her family would usually structure their trips, but she also knew that they had been planned with children in mind. If it was just her and Caitlyn, she would have to plan things differently.

The next time she was on shift at The Last Drop and Silco dropped by, she called to Powder to cover the bar for her, and pulled him and Vander aside, asking them for recommendations and tips.

She left that conversation with a sheet of paper covered in hastily scribbled notes, and a lightness to her step that betrayed her hope for this potential vacation. Vander had assured her that she didn’t need to think too hard about this, aside from certain things like transportation, and that trips like these had a way of falling into place. Silco had added that so long as she and Caitlyn were together, he couldn’t think of a way they wouldn’t enjoy themselves.

A week later, she presented a plan to Caitlyn, complete with potential prices, dates, and rough packing lists. Caitlyn was enamored with the proposal, and rewarded her with a kiss and a complete overhaul of the packing lists.

The dates were set, tickets were bought, and time off work was secured. It wasn’t long at all before the women were boarding a plane to California. Vi couldn’t wait to see Caitlyn enjoying everything Disneyland had to offer.

Notes:

I know this chapter's a little messy, but I stared at it for weeks and couldn't get my brain to edit it further, so yeah. But I plan on cleaning it up when I post the next chapter!

Also, I'm pretty busy with a lot of different fics rn, so I might not be able to update this one until August.
Looking forward to seeing you then! <3
