Chapter Text
Did he do the right thing?
Pretending for so long was the right thing to do. Naturally. He had his friends back. He had everything he could ever want. Why did he feel so empty? So hollow. Why did that ring on his finger feel so wrong? He forgot. He forgot almost everything. He missed the funeral to clean the ring. To make sure it shone in the sunlight. To make sure it was going to last forever. To never forget them.
There was a knock at his door. Finally, he would no longer be alone. He had someone. Well, someones. His friends. Ellernate and Caleb. Jayden and Twister had been forgotten about. They were gone when he finally got in and got out. What made it worse was the fact his friends were fugitives now. They were not supposed to be out. Never supposed to be out, yet here they were at his front door. Not HIS front door. This was Chance’s place, legally speaking. He had bought the apartment out for him. They would have lived in Chance’s place together had things not gone so wrong. He could not remember fully what happened.
Trying to remember stressed him out. He felt sick when he tried to think about it. He could only remember Chance, and that he killed him. The Darkheart had hummed at his side when he tried to think about it. It always hummed when its use was mentioned. Of course. It was gone now, though. Or so he thought.
"Hey guys," iTrapped opened the door to his fairly simplistic place. Opulence, while something he could appreciate, was not the main thing on his mind. One would think otherwise given how fancy he dressed up, but that was more of a disguise than a show of who he was. He never showed who he truly was. Not since he was 14 at least. He knew his friends well enough to know that they were never much for marble or golden leaves on food. After slaying Chance, he had discarded the Darkheart. He had told Caleb and Ellernate about the adventures. How he had to pretend he was into the sex and relationship he and Chance were in.
How much he missed them.
He had suggested the two go and work at a casino nearby. It was hiring, and it was not discreet in looking for quiet people based on the letter he received. He wrote back. Said that he knew a couple people who could keep a secret way better than he could. Which was ironic given how Ellernate had dropped iTrapped’s real name when he was younger, but that was besides the point. They accepted his proposal. Looking back on it, it was likely just to figure out information about him. Caleb and Ellernate got the job, and their visits to him became less and less frequent over time. Eventually, they stopped coming over altogether over the course of a couple years.
iTrapped had taken it upon himself to go and visit the casino himself just to see his friends. It must have been difficult business having to train under the mafia as contractees of sorts. Sorting out arrangements and occasionally doing killing. He had heard about it briefly. Ellernate had to keep it secretive as did Caleb. However, every time iTrapped walked into that casino, Ellernate’s shoulders would slump. He never could figure out why. He pondered it bi-weekly. Eventually, he came to the conclusion that he probably did not have a good reputation with the casino. It made sense given how he would barely cough up any money. He would go for food and drink. Hanging out with his friends like nothing had changed. He never touched the machines. Eventually, the regret settled in. A deep and ravenous feeling in his gut. He began to gamble. Just to think of Chance and their insane luck. To maybe even be one with them again. Gods, he missed Chance. Sometimes, Ellernate would join him and put a hand on his shoulder. A silent reassurance that he was there. Even if just for a moment’s notice. He would go back to work not long after.
He took notice of Ellernate and Caleb gaining swords at their sides. Sheathed. Concealed. The Illumina that he had grown accustomed to was gone and replaced with a sword that was concealed. He had chalked it up to the frankly public security that the mafia displayed. They had their grip on Redcliff territory, and they operated on fear and money. That was something that got people by easily in this world. Well, unless you were a god. You had reverence simply for existing if you were part of the reason why the world stayed alive or the way it was. Even if things could be better you were supposed to be grateful. Always be grateful for what you have. You never know when it could be ripped away from you.
Things got quiet. Too quiet. When he walked in, the chatter stopped. He left without buying anything. Footsteps sounded behind him as he walked, but he knew that he could scare off whoever decided it would be a good idea to stalk him of all people. They knew his name around here. For good reasons, of course. When he turned around, no one was there. The footsteps stopped just a second after his did. He confirmed it. Someone was there. Just where was this person? Or thing.
He kept going, anxiety prickling deep in his soul. Something was wrong. He could feel it. His gut told him to run. He went against his better judgement, convincing himself that he could handle it. He could handle anything. He was THE ̶I̶s̶a̶a̶c̶ iTrapped. Someone who was feared. Beloved. Everyone knew him.
Something hit the back of his head. He heard it before it collided with his skull. He was sent to the ground, catching himself on his hands and twisting around. Bad move. He knew that was the wrong move. He was vulnerable now. No way to stop a hit and protect his internal organs. Or his face. His eyes traveled the concrete that dug into his skin. They landed on something he never thought he would see. It whispered to him. Indiscernible, but it was there.
The Darkheart.
iTrapped narrowly rolled out of the way as Ellernate plunged the Darkheart into the ground where his head would have been. A clean cut. Very unlike him. Then again, it had been years since he last saw that man fight. Tail thrashing behind him. Eyes narrowed under that hood. Too focused but annoyed. Had he done something wrong to warrant this? Caleb was there, too. He appeared just behind Ellernate, grasping the Shadow Sphere. That did not belong to him.
“Guys-?” iTrapped questioned and managed to scramble to his feet. Ellernate did not answer, he merely lunged forward and tried to steal the life left in someone he called his friend. With that, iTrapped booked it. He vaulted over multiple concrete walls, feeling his energy drain. The adrenaline kept him going. Cars sped by. The fact that he could get across the highway without getting hit was a testament to his own luck. Either he was the incarnation of luck, or he was unlucky since the day he could walk. In a fit of brilliance, he grabbed his crown. He twisted his body around while running just to chuck it at the duo. Caleb comically yelped as he went down. "THIS ISN'T FUNNY ANYMORE, GUYS!" He shouted in desperation and tumbled like an echo down a hill. He twisted his ankle upon landing. Tears began to form in his eyes, cursing him with each and every second they burned. Knees close to chest. Like a child.
“Sorry, Isaac,” Ellernate mumbled a half-hearted apology. The spawn symbol turned on his back, and then disappeared as his crimson red horns appeared instead. He pulled his hood down, fluffy brown ears lowering as he took in the pathetic form that was iTrapped before him. Caleb was gone. It was just them now.
“My name isn’t Isaac anymore. It’s iTrapped-”
“I need to pretend. Just so this doesn’t hurt as much as it does. You’re still the same old wretched kid you once were to me right now. Just play along, please.” Ellernate’s tone was flat. He slowly approached. Like a stranger approaching a skittish cat on the street. “Just like you pretended while we were gone. I don’t want to die to the mafia, so I am going to make this quick for you. Okay?”
"Eller- PLEASE!" iTrapped attempted to plead, but he did not see where Caleb had snuck off to. That was until arms locked around his own to effectively incapacitate him. He kicked and struggled with all his might, but it hurt more to move with his twisted ankle. It could have been broken. He was not always one for landing very well. "I KILLED FOR YOU! THE MAFIA WANTING TO TAKE CARE OF HIM THEMSELVES HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ME! PLEASE!" iTrapped yelped and shuddered as a gun was placed to his head. WHEN did Caleb get a gun? Come to think of it, the sword had been missing. Of course. That made sense. It was concealed. Surprisingly law abiding. "Please. I'll give everything I have. I'll make the Darkheart fully detach from me. You can sell it! We can pretend like this entire encounter didn't happen, and we can be friends." Did the Darkheart turn against him? Of course it would. He was just a host.
"I was told you had been rather stoic while we were gone. Why are you suddenly losing your cool?" Caleb feigned sweetness and whispered to iTrapped. "Miss us so much your entire mask shattered? You really are just some pretty stained glass."
“Caleb,” Ellernate warned.
iTrapped sobbed, mind finally clear now that the Darkheart had latched on to someone else. It was clear that nothing would work. He hoped that maybe his words would. He was always good with his words… if Chance was anything to go off of, that was… "Eller put the sword down. It's making you think things and feel things you normally would not. Please-" he whined as the safety was taken off the gun. Caleb was just a bitch in general, so he was not concerned with that part of this entire debacle. He hated his tears.
"Sorry. It's a dog eat dog world now. But I'll let you have your last words." Ellernate slowly blinked and pressed the tip of the sword against iTrapped's neck. "Don't waste my time using more than you need. Keep it nice and sweet for me. You’ve been too much of a blatherskite recently." Since when did he know words like that?
iTrapped broke down, tears streaming down his face against his will. He had managed for three years. Maybe longer. He completed college, the most prestigious title his family could have from him, yet he was breaking down over some little words being used against him. Was he really that far gone? Deep breaths were lost to hiccups. "I'm sorry. For everything. I'm sorry for my greed back then. I'm sorry for struggling to get that connection and key and-.. I'm sorry for even trying to-" he was cut off mid sentence.
"Awwww he's pretending like he's actually sorry. Still a liar huh?" Caleb sneered and grinned against iTrapped's neck. "Wait until Johnny hears about this one.” Wait, Johnny? Jayden? Johnathan?
"See you in hell. I'll wait for you guys." iTrapped managed as he felt the sting of the Darkheart against his throat. It was slow and deliberate. "Believe me when I say that I love you."
"Bet you said that to Chance before ripping out his heart," Ellernate deadpanned.
There was a sharp pain. The highest point on the mountain. Before he could register it properly, the blood vessel was severed. Not even the Darkheart could compare to the darkness he was met with.
He was floating. Free from the gravital leash at last. The first thing he did was spin, watching his crown and faux fur fly off and float as well. Honestly, he would expect something different if he ever dabbled in religion outside of the basic Admin Pantheon he was raised on. It was like he could remember everything at the moment. His mother's warm smile when Ellernate and Caleb were introduced was his favorite. He could not help but smile softly in return. It was barely there, but it was real. Her braided hair with streaks of blue in it. She ran forward and picked him up to twirl him around after his first day at school. His brother watched from the side and shoved his hand into his mouth like it was normal. He was only 3. iTrapped giggled with his mother as she doted on him. Her hair became more blue over time. That’s right, she dyed her hair to fit into Redcliff and the highly-concentrated ‘Noob’ population of the city he grew up in. He forgot about that part. Blue had just seemed so natural on her.
He frowned at the brief memories of his father. He tried to pretend he never had one in the first place. He giggled in each and every memory featuring that disgusting man. He looked so much like him when he had short hair. That's why he grew out his hair. To not look so much like him meant being perceived as feminine or 'bad' according to that useless pile of rotting flesh beneath him. iTrapped did not mind that part, but he did mind the fact that his mother became more relaxed the longer his hair got. It made him happy to see her returning to her usual self. Even if she looked at him with fear. He never could remember why.
iTrapped never liked alcohol for a good reason. Even taking a sip of it made his stomach turn. Being poor meant having unhealthy coping mechanisms. His father and brother happened to share one. Drinking. Beer. Whatever. It was stereotypical, but it was a cycle that he grew up with. There would be rampages from his father. His donor to his mother. He never even wanted to call him a father. Especially when it left him with bruises or blood. God forbid Ellernate see the blood. Caleb threatened to beat the man of the house up too loud sometimes.
iTrapped never could admit that it got him hurt instead.
Things got better when his father finally left. They could afford to pay the piper as his mother said. He never quite understood it, but he learned when the house was sold. Moved into an apartment. Too bad his friends were not there to see things get better for him. They never could have been there. After all, it was his fault they disappeared as well.
Chance was loved by his mother. He took a deep breath, convincing himself to let the memories float. Like he currently was. Witty irony. But he just felt numb as he curled up on himself. It also felt like someone was petting his head. Chance would do that. Oh, gods, Chance. He really fucked up with that guy. He could have just told them that he needed a key – an admin – his family had access to in order to free his rehabilitated friends. He could have just been honest! No need for manipulation. Could have left without death following him everywhere he went. ...would he even leave? Things had gone too far with Chance. He got too vulnerable, and it left him hurt. No need to be vulnerable any longer, it seems.
His eyes started to sting. One blink made it stop.
"iTrapped..." A wispy, ethereal voice with no real solid base to it rang out in his mind. "You hold many regrets..."
"Who- Sorcus?" iTrapped stumbled over his words in surprise.
"....Not quite. However... That does not matter. You wish to make amends and do things differently...., do you not?"
"Yes, I do, odd disembodied voice spinning around in my head like a ball bearing."
"You may simply refer to me as… uhm… hm… you may call me.. The Spectre.."
"Yes, sir- ma'am."
"Sir works," The Spectre smoothly replied, ignoring iTrapped's fumbling. "You must be confused... and wondering why you are... floating through the air of your soul..."
Oh. That's where they were. Wait, who was this guy? Sorcus or Mart were supposed to be the ones looking after souls. Not whoever this was.
"I can send you to purgatory, and you can learn your lessons. However, you must give me your most precious memories. You will earn them over time. You will remember more and more over time. You will start with very few memories. You will also forget this entire conversation minus the fact that you are going to be in purgatory. Do you accept your second chance at life?" He could not quite place the tone. It wanted something more than just his memories. Why would it take just to give them back? This was going to be too good to be true, right?
"Will it be painful?"
"Redemption.... is painful by default."
"...Deal."
"See you on the other side, dear Isaac..." He swore the ethereal tone left. It was too rough when he faded out. This was a horrible idea. Would he have had a choice either way?
iTrapped awoke with a start. On a couch. Next to a cat. In a cabin. Purgatory looked a lot more comfortable than he read from the epics. No idea where he was except for the idea screaming in his head that THIS was Purgatory. No phone or watch to tell where he was nor the time. His throat hurt as well. Heavily hurt. It felt like someone cut his throat, but he had no idea how that felt! Then he took notice of a familiar sword. A legendary sword, one that belonged to his deity Telamon: the Darkheart. This legendary (and frankly infamous) sword was squished against his thigh where he was nestled up against the couch.
Why did it hurt to look at that sword?
He had no time to dwell on it, for there was a cabin to look through. There was a second floor, that much was clear given how he saw a patio overlooking where he woke up. In the distance there was a small dining room. Empty. He decided to get up. As he walked around the lodge, he started to take notice of certain… things. Multiple papers caught his eye as he stopped and stood in place. Some were of strangely familiar faces such as a person named Elliot. Someone named 007n7. All scraggly and young looking. Could not be older than college aged. They were pretty worn papers, so maybe those looks had long passed by.
Without much thought, iTrapped ripped a paper off the wall. It was smeared in ink and had plenty of scribbles. Someone had been in a rush trying to write it. It was addressed to a name that did not really ring many bells to him. Was it somewhat familiar? Maybe. He could not recall it though. He had to squint to read it. The fireplace did nothing to help him understand what words were made of letters.
"Dear Scorpio, I hope this letter finds you in good health. The HQ is a mess. ■■■■■ and ■■■■ have of■■■■lly be■n declared mi■■ing. I'm su■■ you already heard about ■■■■■■■■■■ ■■■ ■■■■■■■■ Even our newest panth■■■ member has gone missing. I have to be honest with you: I'm scared. I don't know how much longer I have left here. Please, come back. Help out Re■■■■■■■■..."
—Cw
The rest of the letter was too scribbled to understand what it says.
With a heavy sigh, iTrapped placed the letter on one of the slot machines nearby. Then, he halted in front of the scamming machine. Ogling the gambling center, the sword at his side began to run a bit hotter. Taking notice of that was on the bottom of the list of priorities right now. He could hear the sound of footsteps behind him. Since when were there people speaking? He really should have been paying more attention. He made eye contact with one of the strangers, and he instantly pulled out the Darkheart. It was slightly melting at the tip. He felt sick.
“Woah! Woah. Hey. Easy. Easy,” the approaching person said. He held up his hands in the air. Palms open and displayed forward. “I’m not going to hurt you. That’s like… the opposite of my job. Now… put the sword down and let me by. I get to have my 10-minute break, and I really want to take it.” Upon closer inspection, they were a pizza delivery person. The exact kind of outfit you would see in Dued’s restaurant. “...Wait… you’re new.”
“Y…yyy…yeaahhh… What of it? Waking up in a cabin in what is called Purgatory isn’t exactly the most normal thing that.. That… it.. Thh..gnn.. That can. FUCK.” iTrapped stuttered. Face heating up with embarrassment. “Just get away. Or I’ll… IIIIIIIII… I’ll stab you! Don’t test me!”
"Hey, easy," the pizza man responded calmly and held his hand out in a stop motion. “I'll explain everything soon. Just... get yourself breathing properly. With your stomach. Where it goes out when you breathe. You look like you're on the verge of having a panic attack.” He lowered his hand after he finished speaking and crossed his arms instead. “I’m not here to hurt you.”
Oh. iTrapped took in a slow and deep breath. With purpose, he was forcing his shoulders to stop being so tense and lower back to a more comfortable position. He unclenched his jaw and his fists as well, getting to reality. The Darkheart was lowered and stopped melting. He was safe here. This pizza guy would have done something already if he had less-than-friendly intentions and motives behind his approach.
But what if he was picking iTrapped to be prey? That thought stayed right in place, and iTrapped found himself being pushed against the slot machine by his own brain. He fumbled and raised the Darkheart yet again. He pointed it right at the pizza guy. This felt familiar. They felt extremely familiar. Like maybe iTrapped has seen him before. They did look pretty similar. Maybe a sibling he had in his past? He was dead. That was why he was in purgatory, obviously. That was self-explanatory. Where was this train of thought even going?
Perhaps it was all a coincidence.
"Easy, easy," the pizza guy gently said and stayed completely still. "It's okay. Like I said, I'm not here to hurt you." The Robloxian's voice remained steady and quiet. "You are safe here." He looked down at the Darkheart then back at the newly awakened survivor. "Put that away. It doesn't work in this part of purgatory."
iTrapped cautiously lowered the sword, but he immediately raised it again when the pizza man slightly moved. He furrowed his brows, trying to discern any sort of expression change that might give away malicious purport. "Who are you?" he spat and narrowed his eyes.
"My name is Eli," the pizza delivery guy responded. "As in... delivery. Because the eli in delivery? I'm sure you understand. Though… I don’t like the pronunciation being Ellie now that I say it out loud. I’ve considered changing it to be pronounced EE-lie because that just makes more sense. For now, it’s just pronounced Ellie with a slight accent at the end. Like French or something."
The casualness brought a sense of calm over iTrapped. It washed over him. Like the first cool showers of the summer turning into fall. Which, based on the heat he was feeling, it must have been summer. That and there was a bunch of sand downstairs for some reason. Oh, and a deflated balloon. The feelings sunk and waved the white flag to retreat. The doubt would leave him alone for now. Unless said emotions demanded a bride to let him go. That would just be weird, though. While his brain was pre-occupied, he processed what information he was given. Acting normal was something that he had to do! His manners managed to join the party, so he cleared his throat and did what any normal person would do and replied with his name, "iTrapped."
“That… name is familiar. Were you in the news?” The attempt to be lighthearted was lost on the swordsman. “Whatever. Anyways, do you want to join me at the pool table and just sit for a bit? Preferably without a lifestealing sword getting put through my chest just for moving and using my legs. Which, by the way, I am really good at using my legs. To run. That’ll be covered in my explanation regarding this entire place. I pinkie swear? I think. Anyways. Join me or not?”
iTrapped solemnly nodded and relaxed yet again as this total stranger simply walked right past him and went to a pool table that was in the room iTrapped had yet to fully look through. He had seen some posters, but the note caught his attention too much. Once Eli sat down, they became a company with the joining of the fairly unstable sword wielder.
After some awkward silence, iTrapped tapped his fingers together. He tried to start a conversation. The smallest ‘so’ escaped his lips, but he quickly shut himself up. Feeling rather weak and cornered by Eli who had yet to do anything to earn that fear. Instead, Eli ended up speaking in actual coherent sentences first. “So… A sword huh? You must be another sentinel. Like Shed-... Telamon. Different people. Sort of… Anyways, what does the sword even do? You should see what your sword and what you in general can do in rounds in your inventory.”
"A what? Like a video game?"
"Just imagine a menu in front of you. Somewhat like the selection menu in a dubiously named fighter game where you pick your character to use. You should be able to see what your abilities are. It'll tell you straight up what you can do and how long you have to wait until you can use said ability again." Another pair of footsteps came up the stairs, but iTrapped was too busy to really notice. Or care.
This thing was WACKY. This was going to take a lot of getting used to. He navigated this thing, looking around at a blank space, completely frozen in place. He had levels, different clothing he would ‘unlock’ the more that he survived. His sword had a long cooldown. A lot of it was redacted. It hurt to think about it, so he chose not to. As he navigated the menu, he got lost in it just reading everything about himself. He was like a video game character now. How sick and twisted was this place? Purgatory was like a game? You had stats? There were killers? Rounds?
"Think he'll be able to handle himself?" Someone new inquired with a glance toward Eli. "He's brand new." With that new voice that was very much NOT Eli’s, iTrapped was knocked back to reality. Just to be met with an Olive Garden employee of some kind sitting next to said pizza guy to his left away.. from iTrapped. "Oh hey, welcome back. I’m Carl. One of Eli’s friends. I’m just here because I’m the main protector. Probably like you. Watching over supports and all that." Eli told him to shut up for a moment, which actually seemed to make Carl listen.
iTrapped looked down at his sword where it rested against his thigh. He took a deep breath again. Once doing that, he FINALLY noticed that his jaw was starting to tense up again. "Hi," he muttered in return and put his face in his hands. "Ugh... this is so complicated. Do I like… immobilize them..? In more ways than one? I make them… HELPLESS? Which, the ‘them’ is just called ‘the killer’ in these small little foot notes. What do you mean by 'killer'??? We're running away from serial killers here?" He put his elbows on his knees and grimaced as he pulled his hands away from his face. "They get slowed when they hit me? What are they doing? Stabbing me? Sounds like I won’t be able to get away if I am GETTING STABBED… Why is it called Charisma? Like that's the name of the so-called passive ability I apparently have? What do you mean they FEEL BAD after hitting me? They get slowed for two seconds? What?" He shook his hands near his face, his fingers looking a little bit like claws with how he angled them.
Eli reached over and put his hand on iTrapped's hand in a taciturn manner before pushing it to lower it down to his leg. "Easy, new guy. Easy."
"Yeah... right... easy," iTrapped sighed as he sat back and removed the ice crown from his head just to run his hand through his hair. "Oh, Telamon, I cannot believe this is what purgatory is like. Hah. I always thought of there being like nine layers, and you climb up because you have special permissions as a little mythology fan boy." He puffed out his cheeks before letting out the rest of the breath he was holding. "Sorry I'm so jittery I-"
"It's okay. New survivors are always like this," Carl assured him from behind Eli. "Honestly, I'm glad you showed up in the middle of a string of rounds. Best it is this time instead of showing up then immediately getting thrown into a round. You get a chance to get acclimated. Much better than I had it."
They got up and went to a pair of bean bags on the floor. Eli took the left one. iTrapped took the one closer to the wall.
"Hah! Yeah," Eli snorted and grinned with a smug expression on his face. He pointed a thumb back at Carl. "You should have seen the look on his face when he threw a baseball at... who was it? Jason?"
"I think so, yeah." Carl smiled back at Eli then took a glimpse at iTrapped. "If it turns out you aren't part of our team- which you probably aren’t-, all of us will end up back in the cabin around… fuck knows the time. My team gets out of the rounds last. Usually because of ragerr dying every round and adding 5 minutes on that timer. So if you're still around by then, come and visit us during our late dinner. We'd love to chat with you again. My team's turn is coming up in a few minutes I fear."
iTrapped froze with widened eyes. He just now realized that he had no idea how this worked. All he knew was that he could essentially dazzle the killers by being pretty and hitting them with the sword that made him feel. He could feel. These feelings were awful and not good. He did not like them. He wanted them GONE. He ALSO did not want to be useless to whoever his team would end up being because of him being too focused on his heart racing. His jaw and shoulders tensed up again. Not noticing it himself. "Wait! How does this work? Like all of these rounds and things? Come to think of it… what exactly is a round?"
Carl and Eli looked back and forth between each other. They likely had never really thought of how to describe it. A what question. At least, that is what iTrapped assumed given how Eli tensed up and Carl immediately shook his head. The pizza guy groaned and then turned his head to look back at iTrapped. He took a deep breath then paused. He opened his mouth just to put his hands together. “Okay so… Uhm…”
“So do you know Pillar Chase?”
“Carl-” Eli warned and glared right at the other Robloxian. “You just shook your head no to explaining, and now you’re explaining?”
“Sorry. I just realized how hopeless you were,” Carl responded and shrugged. Much to the obvious dismay of Eli.
Even iTrapped could sense the annoyance. He was also getting a little annoyed. Just wanted a damn explanation. “No. I don’t know what Pillar Chase is. I’m a shut-in if that helps you guys.” iTrapped felt like he was being suffocated. Unable to use his full volume. Way too quiet. He instinctively went to rub his right ring finger near the base of it. As if he had a ring on it. Ridiculous. He had no jewelry.
“It does. So.. to break it down really simple… you ready?” Eli questioned and took a glance at iTrapped before settling fully into the bean bag with a stretch of his legs. Once he received the nod in return, he resumed speaking, “It’s really not that complicated. A simple random sample of people from your team will be thrown into a round with a killer that is randomly selected as well. Technically, this is a stratified sample, but whatever. It isn’t equal. So simple random. You have a timer. For my team, it’s 35 minutes. The Spectre, that’s what we call the guy that keeps this place alive, really dislikes us right now. As far as I know, your team has 30 minutes on the timer. Possibly lower. I have no idea. It likes to change your rules around a lot, and it makes me so happy that my team doesn’t experience a lot of random events. Sometimes it will be a double trouble round, which means that people from my team and your team will be put together in a team of… 12? I think. Or 10. I’m not sure. Then, there will be two killers. One from my side and one from yours. It can be unbalanced with 10 from mine and 2 from yours and vice versa.”
Carl piped up, “It’s also worth mentioning that your team has a lot of weird luck going on right now. Apparently one time you guys ended up with three killers at once! Hasn’t happened since, but your peeps were unaware until they suddenly saw two of them running together when the one they thought they had was chasing someone. I think it was… Two Time? Before the switching up with teams and stuff like that when they got transferred to our side.”
“Wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up happening again. Look out for anything weird that might happen. Smaller maps with lower timers, faster cooldowns, and other stuff that may occur. No medkits or too many of them. Same with Cola.. No abilities… swapped abilities… it’s a lot. It happens to us sometimes, but mostly to you.” Eli took in a deep breath and rolled his eyes. “Good luck, kid.” He got up, fists balled up. “My time is almost up. Stay safe out there.”
“Wait-!” iTrapped tried to call out. He went to follow Eli, but he was gone once he went around the corner. He looked down at the rest of the cabin, and a different pizza guy looked up at him. All grey, though. Not yellow. He waved up at iTrapped. Instead of waving back, he turned around to look at Carl. He was gone as well.
This was going to be a nightmare.
