So. The thing is …
Gai is strong.
It’s not a secret. Kakashi has sparred with the man plenty of times to know that Gai is a force to be reckoned with.
His taijutsu is far superior to Kakashi’s own and no amount of genius and sharingan use will ever allow Kakashi to top Gai in sheer, brute force.
But he’s not bitter about it, far from it. In fact, Kakashi rests easy knowing that someone with Gai’s strength, speed and stamina will always have his back in a fight and in life. It’s not easy for a shinobi, especially him, to have such blind faith even in teammates. Without a doubt, though, Kakashi trusts Gai and all the strength he has within him.
He just really, really wishes Gai would stop using it for mundane, day-to-day, run-of-the-mill tasks.
So. The thing is …
Kakashi knows that as a shinobi of the Hidden Leaf, both he and Gai are expected to help not only with critical missions and subterfuge, but with as many daily “running of the village” type tasks as they can.
He’s lost count of how many times he’s supervised his team while they find lost cats, help move furniture and weed old ladies’ garden beds to know that virile young shinobi are great helpers to those who are unable to do such things themselves.
But Gai …
Kakashi has been on the receiving end of more of Gai’s punches than he can count. He knows precisely what they can do and how much force they can put behind it.
So there is no reason why his mouth should be going dry and his pulse should be racing at the sight of Gai hauling bags of rice.
He’s got seven of them stacked on each shoulder and his biceps and pecs, not to mention his rippling and toned shoulders, are flexing and bulging as he follows little old, stooped over, Mrs. Takahashi into the backroom kitchen of her restaurant.
God. It’s just not fair.
Kakashi is so, so lucky that he has Gai’s attention and affection all to himself. A fact that’s honestly a little mind boggling. Sure, Gai is loud and flamboyant and has questionable fashion sense, but clearly, the good people of Konoha don’t know a good thing when they see it.
Gai comes out of the restaurant again, coming up to the supply cart as Mrs. Takahashi points a bony finger at several kegs of cooking oil sitting near the back of the wagon.
Kakashi watches from his hidden spot in a nearby alley. Would it be kind to go and offer a hand himself? Of course. But then he’d be missing out on quite the show.
Gai nods and says something with a booming laugh that has Mrs. Takahashi tittering and flapping her hand. Kakashi has no doubt that Gai has been called “a fine young man” or something similar at least three times during this interaction.
With a quick drop into a squat, Gai reaches those same, beautiful bulging arms around a barrel. But, those quickly take a backseat in Kakashi’s lustful mind because …
Gai’s thighs tighten as he lifts the keg of oil, making sure that his back takes none of the strain. Kakashi feels lightheaded.
He takes everything back about calling Gai’s fashion sense questionable. That skin-tight, practically painted on suit gives Kakashi a well defined look at every curve and valley of those incredible legs.
It all looks so effortless. Sure, Kakashi and numerous other people, shinobi or civilian could have also lifted the items that would easily crush Mrs. Takahashi, but none of them would do it like Gai.
Gai who has so perfectly mastered and honed every muscle and all of its uses in that incredible body of his. Are his methods unorthodox? Of course. Kakashi finds himself hard pressed to complain about the results though. There’s not a single person Kakashi knows who looks like that and also has the skills to back it up.
Kakashi watches as Gai comes back for the second keg and tries his best to calm down the flush in his face as the process begins all over again.
He has got to get himself together. Reading Icha Icha in public has the intended effect of getting a good majority of people to leave him alone, but he’s not ignorant to the rumors of being a total pervert for doing so.
The last thing he needs is for someone to catch him perving on his very own partner while he does something as mundane as carrying groceries for a little old lady.
It’s just that it’s so hard not to appreciate Gai’s hard earned body and the fact that it’s his and his alone to get enjoyment from.
Gai returns once again with Mrs. Takahashi in tow, she offers him money which he politely refuses, voice crowing that it’s his “youthful duty to help such lovely young ladies with whatever jobs they may have!”
Mrs. Takahashi giggles again and Kakashi is thankful that he has the dignity left to not be jealous of a woman approaching her 90s.
“You’re too good to me, Gai,” she says, patting his arm with grandmotherly affection. “You make sure to bring that man of yours around for a meal on the house. He’s too thin if you ask me!”
Gai laughs his big laugh and promises that he and Kakashi will be by some night later in the week.
That’s if Kakashi lets him leave the house. He’s not proud of the state he’s got himself in, but it’s hard to resist when Gai goes around doing good deeds while looking like some sculpted muscle god.
Gai gives Mrs. Takahashi one last wave before making his way down the street. Kakashi leans conspicuously out of the alley.
“Rival! What brings you here?” Gai says jovially when he sees him.
“Thought I’d come watch you flirt with little old ladies,” Kakashi replies with a smirk.
Gai puts his hands on his hips and booms another laugh. “Is that so?”
The motion flexes his chest and Kakashi loses what’s left of his composure and patience. He reaches out and tugs a bewildered, but affable, Gai into the alley with him.
“Well, maybe not the flirting,” Kakashi states, allowing his hands to trace from Gai’s wrists to his biceps. He gives them a squeeze. “But all of that heavy lifting sure looked nice.”
Gai quirks an eyebrow, catching his drift immediately. He flexes his arms and Kakashi feels them go hard and taught beneath his palms. He fights down a dry swallow.
“It’s always good to know when my hard work is appreciated,” Gai says with a resolute nod.
Kakashi nods along too, not really listening. “I suppose you deserve a reward then,” he says, tugging Gai down into a kiss.
Gai enthusiastically returns it, finally, finally taking Kakashi into those strong and wonderfully perfect arms.
