Work Text:
"What do you think? Which one will he like?" Kant realizes that Bison is not next to him when he doesn't get a response.
He looks around the shop and quickly finds Bison on the other side. He slowly walks towards Kant but doesn't take his eyes off the bicycles beside him.
Sometimes he runs his fingers along the tyre of one, over the seat of another. But he stops before a simpler one and examines it in detail. He doesn't just run his fingers along the tyre or the seat, he brushes over the handlebar, the little bell, the pedal and the light green frame as well. All this with sparkling eyes and a dreamy smile on his face.
Kant's heart sinks and melts at the same time - knowing Bison's painful past. They often talked about it in the evenings after a hard day, when Bison was overwhelmed by his bad memories. How he wished for a real childhood when his biggest fear was whether his mom would forget to buy his favorite cookies or whether his dad would have energy to play soccer with him after work.
But instead of this he got a stepmother who forced him and his dear brother to kill who knows how many people. She pretended to be nice and understanding, but in truth, she was the one behind his real parents’ deaths. She killed his family and youth.
But honestly, Bison would choose this life again if it meant that in the end he will be with Kant – his home. And if Fadel, Babe and Style will be by his side, too. He would do all the horrible things again to reach to this point in his life.
Because if he lived another life, he might not meet the people who matter the most to him. He will love his parents till his last breath, but Bison knows, feels he has to be by Kant’s side. They are meant to be together. To learn how to live their life to the fullest, together. To be there for each other and love one another.
Kant doesn’t agree with him, not in every part. If Lilly didn’t exist, Bison could have had a perfect life. A real childhood with his parents, growing up in love without all the traumatic experiences. He would have found his true love – whether that would be Kant or not – but he would have been happy. Truly, fully happy.
It’s something they would never agree on. So all Kant can do is try to make Bison the happiest person who ever lived in this cruel world.
"Bison?”
"Hmm?” Bison looks at Kant, startled. He hadn’t noticed Kant approaching him.
Kant loves the fact that Bison has let down most of his guard. In the past he had to be vigilant all the time, but now he doesn’t need to be. He will be safe the rest of his life – Kant makes sure of it.
Kant gently smiles at him to reassure him.
"Do you like this bicycle?”
"Hmm, yes. It’s beautiful.” Bison nods a few times, his gaze lingering on the vehicle again.
"I always wished for one. My parents bought one for my birthday but I never had the chance to try it. When I grew up and my mind was full, I just wanted to hop on a bike and go to the park to clear my head. Similar to when I used to go bowling after a mission. So sometimes I rented a bike but it never felt as good as the idea of having my own. Something that is fully mine, something I can take care of and ride wherever I want, you know?”
Kant places his hand on Bison’s shoulder and gives it a gentle squeeze to let him know he understands.
"And I like watching families, friends or lovers riding bikes together. It seems so much fun.”
"We could be like that if…”
"No! No, really.” Bison cuts him off. "Lately there aren’t that many quests at the tattoo shop. And you won’t let me find a side job while I'm studying, so let's just buy a new one for Babe. He’s been talking about it for months now. I will buy one for myself when I can afford it, hmm? Please, Kant."
"But I want to spoil you. Make all of your dreams and wishes come true."
"And you spoil me just right. Both in bed and out of it." Bison raises his eyebrows seductively as he slides his hands under Kant's loose t-shirt. Wrapping his arms around his boyfriend's slim waist, Bison draws small circles on the soft skin with the tip of his thumb.
Kant smirks down at him and slowly slides his right hand over Bison's butt. It’s just the two of them and the seller, who is busy in the back of the shop packing something. Maybe the bicycles are hiding Kant’s adventurous hands from the cameras, but even if they’re not he doesn’t really care.
He can do whatever he wants with his boyfriend. He won’t let anyone interrupt them, not anymore.
But before that he really wants to argue about this with Bison, but as he opens his mouth…
"How about we quickly buy that heavy blue bicycle for Babe I know he will love...” Bison says, pointing behind Kant’s back, certainly at the one Kant had been considering buying for his brother’s birthday. "And go to that abandoned building I told you about? The one on the edge of town with the beautiful view from the top? We would be in the car nice and warm… maybe even a little too warm. There you could be as loud as you want. No one would hear you, except me.”
"Sounds like you have very specific plans.” Kant squeezes Bison’s butt a little harder and pulls him closer, making Bison bump into his chest.
"Maybe.” Bison whispers between them before giving Kant an open mouthed kiss. Before pulling away, he gently bites down on Kant’s lower lip. He can be tough with him a little later.
"Stay here. I will take care of the paperwork.” Bison nods and takes a step back. Kant tries not to whine at the loss.
"Hurry up.” Bison says with a wink, his eyes deliberately dropping to Kant’s bulge.
Kant takes a deep breath to calm himself down. He can do whatever he wants with his boyfriend, but sadly not wherever.
Bison pretends to be completely calm as he looks at the bicycles. Kant turns to finally buy his brother’s gift, but just before Bison disappears from his sight, he sees his boyfriend sneak another glance at the light green bike. That only strengthens Kant in his plan.
He quickly goes to the counter, calls out for the seller and waits impatiently for him to appear. Which really don’t takes more than half a minute.
They discuss and arrange everything in a few minutes – meanwhile Bison can keep dreaming – but as soon as everything is done, he immediately hurries back for his boyfriend.
"You ready?”
"For you? Always. But are you for me?” it’s Bison’s cute but flirty way of asking if he can take the lead. And Kant agrees, willingly, every single time.
"I couldn’t be more ready for you.” Kant replies, thinking back to their little foreplay from just a few hours earlier. Bison sometimes loves to tease him before leaving the house.
"Then let’s go.” Bison smirks and entwines his fingers with Kant’s, dragging him towards their car. But just before they step out of the shop, Kant takes one last glance at the bicycle.
"Happy birthday Babe!”
"Thank you, Bison!” Babe smiles at him then starts unpacking the giant box.
Kant and Bison joked about how Babe might struggle to unwrap it, but in reality, they were just making fun of themselves since they were the ones who had to carry the heavy box upstairs.
"Hey! I was the one who bought it for you!” Kant exclaims in disbelief.
"I know, but I’m sure Bison picked which one you should get.” Babe says as he tears the cardboard in half at the side with a simple movement. Bison burst out laughing, and Kant can’t quiet him even by throwing a pillow in his face. It just makes Bison laugh even more.
"Yeah, he said it first but I was thinking the same!” Kant tries to defend himself, if his boyfriend already betrayed him.
"Hmm, yeah, sure.” Babe barely acknowledges him as he carefully unwraps his new bike.
"It’s so cool, thank you guys!” he walks up to Bison and hugs him tightly. Bison glances at Kant, slightly surprised, but hugs back Babe lovingly. Then Babe turns to Kant and gives him a hug too, but noticeably shorter than Bison’s – just to tease his big brother.
"Come on, go try it!” Bison pushes Babe toward the bicycle. He's almost as excited for Babe as he would be for himself. Little does he know….
Kant loves how well his little brother and his boyfriend get along. Sometimes maybe too well, especially when they team up against him. But he doesn’t mind, not a bit.
Babe had just carried his bike down the stairs with Bison's help when the latter suddenly shouts out.
"Kant, you idiot! You didn’t have to…” Bison takes a few steps ahead but then stops.
There are two beautiful new bicycles in front of the gate. Bison’s light green one and a black one – what must be Kant’s.
Bison’s eyes shine with tears but he doesn’t let them fall. No, he will cry from something else - too - but not soon enough. And he will make sure to make Kant cry as well.
"Come with me!” Bison grabs Kant’s hand and quickly runs up the stars, dragging Kant after him.
"I thought we would have a family afternoon with the bikes! You two are never gonna change.” Babe shakes his head in disbelief as he watches the two hurried men, but a loving smile hides at the corner of his mouth. He would never complain as long as he sees his big brother this happy.
"Don’t want to!” Kant winks at him before slamming the door behind him, signaling that the house is theirs for a few hours.
And if that day Babe had to sleep at one of his friend’s house, and if their first family bike ride didn’t happen until two days later… well, only Kant can be blamed for that.
