Hello people. This is just another invite to others to write a story I may or may not get to.
I like Dragon Ball well enough, but there was definitely missed potential. This work is meant to draw that out.
To do so there are some key factors that will need to change.
1. Male Female ships ONLY. No saying f%#* by ANYONE. Also don’t treat the humans like absolute canon fodder.
I know for a fact there is a way to make them not so useless to the big bads from Z onwards.
A good catalyst to make them better could be Goku admitting to Tien how he got strong enough to face Demon King Piccolo. This could lead to things like Tien drinking the ultra divine water before the Sayains arrive and putting up a better fight.
This can in turn lead to the humans realizing the best way to stay relevant is follow Goku’s path to power- in their own way. Such as actually staying to train with King Kai and learn all that they can from him after being revived. Then they can maybe blast off to Planet Yardrat in a gravity chamber spaceship as they further prepare for the androids. Could bring Roshi along for advice.
2. Need smart villains. And probably more if the humans aren’t as useless.
Seriously, there needs to be more than just ‘who has the highest power level’ to securing victory. Like Chi-Chi said, “If you boys trained your minds half as much as your muscles”. Surely someone can make a villain that has brawn and brains. You can’t tell me there’s no one like that in the entire Dragon Ball universe.
3. Delve into the magic aspect of Dragon Ball more.
If you have to, make an oc who becomes the mage of the group and studies under Fortune Teller BaBa. Or make it Chiaotzu since he is definitely the weakest of the humans. He may be better built for magical mumbo jumbo. (And if the Shadow Dragons are anything to go on; it doesn’t take a whole lot of magic to match a martial artist’s straight up ki. Just look at Babadi.)
4. Do the females justice. Especially Launch and Videl.
She should have never become a housewife. The real Videl is a fighter through and through. Almost like a female Goku. She should have gotten strong despite the beating from Spopovich. She definitely had the potential to be the strongest human.
5. Include concepts from Og Dragon Ball, Z, the movies if you have to, GT, but nothing from Super or Heroes or anything like that.
It’s not that I dislike Super it just doesn’t feel like a necessary addition…
Ugh the best way I can say it is GT was definitely where the story of Dragon Ball should have ended if it was done properly. I mean come on that opening “Bit by Bit” and that one ending that goes “don’t you see, I know the world keeps spinning around, whenever you are feeling down, hang on, I’ll be there” clearly meant to be the end of a series.
Now if you want to reimagine certain characters in Super and make them make sense this story (like reworking how the Cerelians vs the Sayains went, utilizing Monaka and that supernatural water that became Vegeta for something) then go for it. Oh and the time rings are cool to.
6. There has to be at least one female Sayain survivor.
(This one is optional. She can be in south galaxy or something. Maybe end up with Yamcha somehow.)
7. Vegeta ends up greater than Goku. Just like GT implied.
I think the reason Vegeta was behind Goku for so long was because he sat on his behind to much. And when he finally started training he overdid it. Didn’t allow himself much, if any rest. Hence why it wasn’t until GT that he finally passed Goku until Super Sayain 4 became a thing. Speaking of that.
8. Super Sayain 4. Should definitely be peak power for full blooded Sayains.
It’s just perfect.
And I think the idea it’s similar to Ultimate Gohan in the fact it’s not necessarily a multiplier like the other forms but simply unleashes a Sayain’s full potential is exactly what peak Sayain strength should be. Which is why when Vegeta first went 4 he was basically even with Goku’s 4 despite Goku having fought more and being powered up by his family to fight Baby. Vegeta always had the greater potential.
9. Everyone plays a role somehow.
10. Pan should have been Goku’s successor.
This is really the main thought that sparked the idea of Dragon Ball: Greater.
I don’t know what the GT writers were thinking when they made her a brat that always needed Goku to save her… I mean she was the most like Goku out of anyone when she was 4.
Gohan was never going to fill those shoes properly. That’s just a fact. I am confident if Videl remained a fighter and Goku was actually there for his granddaughter instead of just leaving to train Ubb, she would have been the strongest there ever was.
Stronger than either Gogeta or Vegito.
And Broly.
The Ultimate Super Sayain. (With the white hair and red eyes [with defined dots like 3 and 4 have] the Super Sayain was going to have before Toriyama changed it. A clothing change for the form would be fitting to. I was thinking it’d be a mixture of Super Sayain, kaioken, Ultimate form, and her rage boosts.) This would be an endgame power for sure. She’d have to work her way through mixing each power with it each other. Like Super Sayain + kaioken, then Super Sayain + Ultimate form. And once she’s mastered all the duo forms she can move on to triple mastery. Then finally all four combined.
I also think it’d be funny if Pan expressed her distaste for how Super Sayain and kaioken make her hair all spiky when she doesn’t have that orange bandanna on. Ultimate won’t mess up the hair. Ultimate Super Sayain will make it all white, flowy, divine and somewhat longer. It’ll be the only form that forces the bandanna off her head.
I’d say her design and clothing should stay the same as GT had it. With some variations sometimes- like actual fighting gi.
Now as for why Goku stays. Well for one, that was just a bad decision to make him abandon his family to train Ubb…but a reason I thought of is Pan being too strong.
I imagine that when that rando makes Pan drop her ice cream she gets mad, as in the original, but her power leaks out in response. It’s far too much; in fact it is the greatest power Goku and Vegeta have ever felt. It even scares them. The whole Dragon Ball verse can feel it; it’s like a wake up call. Goku rushes in to try and calm her with his ice cream. She calms down eventually but the memory of her power still lingers in his head.
When Goku announces his leave to train Ubb. His response to pan is different.
“But Grandpa! You’ll still be here to teach me right. Like the spirit bomb and kaioken, and super Sayain and..” He cuts her off placing a hand on her head.
“Of course Pan. It’s not like I can’t come back. You could come with us sometimes to if you want. Sound good?”
”Yaaayyy!!”
In those years she would learn all those techniques she mentioned along with instant transmission. And perhaps dabble in some magic, go on camping trips that resemble Gohan surviving Piccolo’s training. She’s got a very “I want to learn everything” attitude. Fighting most of all but other things to.
Yet despite her greatest efforts, she never manages to turn Super Sayain. For the longest time she only has kaioken and her rage boosts.
It isn’t until an event where she really loses control that her strength detonates along with her sanity. The form is an amalgamation of Super Sayain, Ultimate Form and her rage. Thus beginning an arch dedicated to the idea of becoming too strong. With a villain hellbent on destroying Goku’s self-improvement mindset.
It will be during this arc that Pan questions herself and asks what she wants to become. She’ll definitely need to go to Yardrat to have a chance of regaining control.
The final boss of the series should still be the Dragon Balls. (Like the main ones, Namekian ones, and the ones on planet Cereal if you involve them.) And much like her Grandfather, Pan will be offered a position as god. As in the highest of all. Beyond even Supreme Kai.
So yeah, these are the main points I think will be essential to making Dragon Ball: Greater. I’ll have to get much more knowledgeable of the series before I even think about writing this.
