Chapter Text
Being stuck at Sol temple had made everyone restless. It’d only been a week or so, but everyone was bored. The golds were even more restless because most of them were still to injured to train. Meanwhile, Xio was dying to start a DND campaign.
Their setting up in the dining room. They’ve always wanted to DM and had even participated in a campaign with their siblings once. It didn’t last very long, of course, but he’d enjoyed it none the less. Niya and Teo are going to play with him, and Xio’s trying to get them to make characters.
Niya’s already made a character. “Her name is Lady Apple Barrel and she’s an orc princess!” Xio paused. “They don’t usually–eh. Okay, Orc princess. Teo?” Teo showed Xio a sheet. “Oh wow. You filled everything out. Mage?” Teo nods. “Yup. I’m gonna kick ass. With fireballs.” Xio rolled his eyes.
“I know a different kinds of fire balls–” They ducked as Teo threw a empty water bottle at them, while Niya cackled. Teo flushed bright red, his wings puffing out slightly. “Okay, anyways, you’re all in the kingdom of–”
The door crashes open. Xio jumps, Teo’s wings puff out, and Niya already has a golden sword in her hand. It seems none of them have recovered from the two weeks of constant danger. Who would have thought. Fortunately, it’s just Auristela, Aurelio, and Ocelo.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Auristela asked, strutting over, while Aurelio walks over to Teo, who smiled and gave him a peck on the cheek. Niya rolled her eyes. “Ew, get a room.” Xio frowned. “Weren’t you and Auristela making out in here like two days ago–” They ducked for the second time in five minutes as a stress ball came flying at their face. “What the fuck–!!”
Ocelo walked over, picking up the little bird plushie they were using as Teo’s token. “Seriously, what are you guys playing?” Xio snatched the tiny plushie back. “None of your business–” “It’s Dungeons and Dragons, right? Can I join?” Aurelio asked. Teo nodded, and Xio sighed, knowing their peaceful campaign was burning before his eyes.
Teo nodded. “Yeah, sure, we haven’t started yet.” Auristela sat down next to Aurelio. “I’ll join too.” Ocelo keeps reading Niya’s paper from behind Xio. “Yeah, I wanna join too.” They sit down in between Niya and Xio. Ten minutes later, the three golds hand in their papers. “Okay. Aurelio’s a cleric, Auristela’s a thief, and Ocelo–...yours just says cat?”
Ocelo nods. “Yeah. Let’s start already, I wanna kick ass!”
“Finally. Okay. You're all hanging out in a town. There’s a festival in place, and there are booths with games, bright pastries, and lots of people in costume. What are you all doing?” Ocelo grins. “My cat is biting people.” Xio sighed. “Uh. Okay. People try to pick it up, roll—” Ocelo scoffed. “Nuh-uh! She bites them.”
“Roll D20 to bite them, damnit!” Ocelo threw the dice on the ground. “...3. I BITE THEM THREE TIMES!” Xio shook his head. “No, you miss and get picked up by three children. They have sticky fingers and start trying to pet you.” Ocelo grumbled. Xio rolled their eyes. “Niya, what’re you doing?”
Niya grinned. “Lady Apple Barrel is playing that game where you hit the thingie and it goes up and hits the bell.” Xio nods. “Bell striker. Roll D20.” “18!” Xio nods. “The children watching Princcess Apple Barrel cheer as the bell rings. The carnival game owner grins, showing off a missing tooth, and hands you a baby goose.”
Ocelo scowled. “I want a goose..” Xio nods. “Auristela, what’re you doing?” Auristela grinned. “I am looking for a place selling weapons.” Xio nods. “You see a blacksmith boasting a free sword for an arm wrestle, and a small stand selling daggers.” Auristela smirked. “Blacksmith.”
Aurelio looked up from where he’d been staring at Teo. “Your going to arm wrestle a blacksmith?” Auristela rolled her eyes. “Duh.” Xio nods. “Inside, the temperature increases by ten degrees immediately. Inside, is a orc woman standing at 7 feet. She’s wearing an apron.” Auristela paused. “..is she hot?”
Xio groaned. “We just started, no trying to elope with the NPC’s!” Auristela huffed. “Too bad, I wanna roll to seduce her.” Xio sighed. “You..fine..D20, you know the drill.” Auristela rolls. “I got a–2.” Xio snorts. “Alright. You walk up to the orc, who looks down at you. You wink at her, and she…” They roll a die.
“Fuck..” They groaned as they rolled a 13. “Okay. She looks down at you, a bit confused, her brows lifting. She asks ‘do you have something in your eye?’” Teo snorts. “Oh my god.” Auristela grinned. And Xio shook his head. “No, you're waiting for your next turn. Aurelio, what’s…Jean Luc doing?”
Aurelio’s character was the only one that had an actual design. He had created a doll, constantly being fixed with colorful patches. He refused to tell Xio any more, and it infuriated him to no end. “Jean Luc is looking for a job as a baker. They grab a colorful cupcake with bright blue frosting.”
Xio nods. “Thank Sol–someone’s doing something normal. Okay, you see three stands nearby. One of them is an old style bakery that specializes in bread, the second is a fancy bakery that makes wedding cakes and personalized orders, and the third is a simple but cute stand with a colorful banner.” Aurelio nods. “Third. Can I give them my resume?” Teo rolled his eyes.
“You could do anything and your getting a job?” Teo teased, smiling as Aurelio huffed. “Yes.” Xio sighed. “Teo, what’s your character doing?” Teo grinned. “I’m looking for people to ‘borrow money’ from.” Teo grinned.
Xio nods. “Cool. You see three people that look like good candidates. An bald, middle aged man talking to a clown dressed in black and white, an old woman hunched over looking at soaps, and a–”
“This is boring! I wanna kick ass!” Ocelo grumbled. Xio sighed. “Fuck you. Fine. Okay, as Teo, as your looking for people to watch, you realize everyone’s starting to yell. Two people run into you, and you can hear groans. A hole opens up next to Luca, and a hand grabs his ankle.”
“Oh shit.” Ocelo grinned. “My cat scratches the kids and runs over to scratch the hand!” Xio rolled their eyes. “It’s not your turn–fine. Roll.” Ocelo grinned. “I got a–...fuck. 7.” Xio snorts. “You scratch the kids, and they drop you on your head. A skeleton grabs your bag paw and..FUCK. It’s hand falls off.” Ocelo grinned. “I wanna keep it.” Xio nods. “Niya, your letting kids pet the goose when a skull covered in sinew comes flying past you, soaring right above the kids heads.”
Niya grinned. “Edwin starts eating the skull, and I punch whoever threw it! Oh.” Xio glances over. “...that’s a 2?” Niya nods. Xio sighed. “You miss and go flying past it. The children laugh at you before running for their lives. Auristela–” Niya scoffed. “What about Edwin?” Xio sighed, rolling a quick die. “4. Your BABY goose nips at their ankles, and it does absolutely nothing. Wow this is going badly.”
“Auristela, in the blacksmith, the orc opens her mouth to reply when an arrow comes flying through the window and hits her square in the middle of the chest.” Auristela scoffed. “She–what??!!” Xio grinned, rolling two dice. “Sorry, the dice gods have spoken–” They grunted as Auristela threw a die at his forehead. “OW–BITCH!” They threw an empty Coke bottle, which Auristela dodged.
“I was flirting with that orc you asshole–” She yelled, as Xio got up and started running. “FUCKKKKKK!!!” Xio screamed, running out of the room as Auristela throws a fireball at them. It misses, and Aurelio snuffs it out. “...so I guess that’s the end for now?” Teo nods.
Niya grins. “I’m gonna go help!” She said, standing up. Teo grabs some papers, putting them in a folder. “Help who?” Niya yells from the hall, her voice trailing out behind her. “I DUNNO!”
Teo smiled. “Well, at least she didn’t try to kill them until now.” Aurelio nods, helping Teo clean up. Teo puts the folders in the box. “..Auristela won’t actually kill them, right?” Aurelio nods. “Yeah. I mean probably. 50/50.” He said, a faint smile on his lips. They hear a yelp, and Xio comes running back inside, cackling like a maniac as Auristela skids to a stop.
Xio scrambles behind Teo, who looked around. “Where the fuck did Niya go?” Xio shrugged. “I dunno–” They suddenly disappeared with a pop. Teo’s eyes widened. “Son of a fuck–Relio!” He screamed as the same pop sounded, and Aurelio’s warm heat disappeared from his side. Another pop, and he sees Auristela’s gone too. A flash of light in his eyes blinds him, and he covers his eyes.
