Chapter Text
They say the two events that bring people together the most are weddings and funerals. Unfortunately for UA High School’s former Class A, it was their very first funeral…
Kaminari Denki was the first of them to die doing what he loved: being a hero. He was chasing a villain with a mysterious quirk and got much too close!
Katsuki always called him stupid, but watching the footage, he would have done the same thing and gotten zapped as well! It shocked everyone! One moment, Denki was there laughing and making jokes and the next, he was gone! Katsuki was devastated. It was the first friend he ever lost. But he had to put on a brave face for everyone else, especially Jiro who couldn’t keep herself together.
Surprisingly, a few hours before the funeral started, she grabbed the girls and demanded a drink. Katsuki somehow got lumped in as their designated driver and that’s how he ended up at a bar with the drunk delirious girls of former Class A.
“He used to make the dumbest face!!!” Jiro laughed before trying to imitate Kaminari’s ‘yay’ mode.
“I’m sure it will live on in history like he would have wanted!” Uraraka tried to comfort her, making Kyoka burst into tears once more.
“I loved him! I never told him but I did!”
Katsuki tried his best not to audibly groan. He hated when they got on the subject of “love”. For some reason, it always made his chest hurt. And also, for some reason, he couldn’t get a certain nerd out of his head!
“I’m sure he knew!” Ochaco comforted her.
A damn taken nerd!
“No, he didn’t! He was an idiot!” Jiro cried inconsolably. Momo took her to the bathroom along with Tsuyu and Hakagakure, to comfort her away from watchful eyes, leaving just Katsuki, Uraraka and Ashido at the bar.
“So…” Mina swirled her drink. “Speaking of idiots in love… Have you and Midoriya done it yet?!” She asked Ochaco, making her spit out her beer and Katsuki spit out his water! They both had to catch their breath before Ochaco turned to her incredulously.
“Why would you ask me that today of all days?!”
“It’s what Kaminari would have wanted!” Mina defended herself before wiping a tear. “Now tell me! Tell me! Tell meeeeee!” She drunkenly whined.
“We’re not the only ones here, Ashido!” Ochaco nervously looked in Katsuki’s direction.
“Bakugo-kun’s great at keeping Midoriya’s secrets! He didn’t tell us about One for All! He won’t tell anyone!” Mina nodded her head at her flawless logic. Katsuki hoped Uraraka didn’t say a damn word, his heart couldn’t take it! He already experienced one death, damnit!
“Tell her what?” Jiro returned along with the rest of the girls.
“If she and Midoriya had sex yet!” Mina shook Uraraka impatiently.
“Have you?!” Momo couldn’t help her curiosity.
“You too, ponytail?!” Katsuki asked incredulously, making everyone turn to him.
“He probably knows!” Jiro pointed drunkenly. “If anyone knows Midoriya’s secrets, it’s him! He even kept One for All from us!”
“That means he owes us!” Toru said excitedly. “Tell us! Tell us!”
“I DON’T KNOW SHIT AND I DON’T WANT TO KNOW SHIT!”
“There’s nothing to know!” Ochaco was so flustered, she made everyone around her float. “We haven’t done anything like that! We’re just hanging out so far!”
Katsuki sighed in relief.
“Did you just say phew?” Toru questioned.
“Uraraka!” Jiro put her hands on her shoulders. “Listen to me! Please do me a favor! Tell him how you feel! Or else he’ll die a virgin like Denki!” She sobbed again.
“What do you think he’s like in bed?” Mina questioned. “I bet he’s freaky!”
“It’s always the sweet ones!” Toru concurred.
“I’M WAITING IN THE CAR!” Katsuki stormed off. The thought of Izuku even holding someone else’s hand made him sick. And he wasn’t about to listen to the girls planning his deflowering! He unlocked his car and was tempted to drive when he noticed Tsuyu asleep in his backseat.
“HOW DID YOU GET IN HERE WITHOUT MY KEYS?!”
“Sorry… I used my tongue...” Tsuyu said as she was startled awake. Katsuki didn’t even want to know what that meant.
“I just couldn’t really stand the topic of conversation. I’m very blunt so it was hard for me to keep my mouth shut.” Tsuyu sighed.
“About what?! The nerd’s bedroom?!” Katsuki didn’t know why he asked.
“About that relationship. I was really happy for them at first! But… there’s something off about it. Don’t you think?” Tsuyu inquired.
“I don’t care.” Katsuki huffed indignantly.
“Bakugo-chan, I think you-” Before she could finish that sentence, they heard a banging on his window.
“Funeral time!” Mina tastelessly cheered as the rest of the girls surrounded the car. Katsuki didn’t know why he agreed to this in the first place….
Izuku tried to pull himself together. Death was hard for him to face. He always thought back to that day. To Kacchan… To Tenko… This was his first funeral for a friend but if he wasn’t so lucky, it would have been his second. He wiped his tears, trying to be brave. He thought back to Spinner’s grief after he took Tenko’s life. Izuku knew he shouldn’t be thinking about himself! He should be focused on Kaminari! It was just so shocking, it didn’t feel real! Kaminari was a good friend to him! Even when telling him he needed a bath!
All Might picked him up in his car and they both were solemn.
“I never expected any of you to be gone before me…” His mentor said sadly.
“To think if Kacchan hadn’t– You would be gone too… I’m glad you’re still here. It makes days like this easier!” Izuku sighed.
When he walked inside Kaminari’s family house, he paused at the shrine to Denki. His picture, smiling big. He would have liked something like this. Pro heroes, fans, friends, hundreds of people paying their respects to the most cheerful hero who brought light and laughs everywhere he went!
Izuku looked around and tried to find anyone he knew before his eyes landed on Kacchan who furiously hung up his phone.
This day must have been hard for him. Him and Kaminari were close!
“Kacchan.” Izuku approached him. “Are you okay? That call looked tense!”
“Wasn’t a call.” Katsuki grumbled. “It was a voicemail! Kirishima took this harder than all of us, but I didn’t think he wouldn’t show!”
“He’d regret it if he didn't come!” Izuku said in concern.
“What about you?” Katsuki questioned. “How are you holding up?”
Izuku wanted to cry at that. Kacchan was always asking about him! Always making sure he checked in with himself. “I pre-cried.” He giggled softly. There was no point lying to him. “I figured I’d try to be brave for Jiro-San! And for you!”
“Why for me?” Katsuki questioned.
“You guys were close! I’m sure today will be really hard for you! You don’t have to be brave all the-”
“Deku-kun!” Ochaco grabbed his arm drunkenly before whispering in his ear. “I’m not holding up well… Stand with me?” Izuku was torn. He wanted to stand with Kacchan! But he knew what she meant. All of this probably reminded her of Toga!
But… Today was about Kaminari and Kacchan needed him!
“It’s fine. Go.” Katsuki rolled eyes before walking away.
Guilt swirled in Izuku’s stomach. He stood with Ochaco as everyone went in groups to pay their respects to the family. When Jiro went up, the family cried with her. Their mourning cries made both Izuku and Ochaco remember the people whose lives were lost because of them.
After paying respects, All Might took the stage and spoke solemnly.
“Young Kaminari was a bright young hero who could make even the stoic Aizawa laugh in dire times. He had such a bright future and was taken from us too soon! The villain may still be out there but rest assured, Chargebolt saved many lives that day!”
Katsuki tried to keep himself together as All Might spoke, but he was cracking. He was really never gonna see that idiot again. He instinctively looked over to Izuku, whose concerned gaze toward him gave him comfort. But Ochaco crying in his shoulder was hard to see as Katsuki looked back the other way.
Kaminari always teased Katsuki to hell about this painful dull ache in his chest. If he was here, he’d try and pull Uraraka away from Izuku with some dumb plan!
“BAKUGO! MIDORIYA!”
Katsuki chuckled to himself as he could still hear his voice.
Wait, that really was his voice!
Everyone turned to the entrance of the home where Kaminari, alive and well, ran in, out of breath!
“Oh…” Denki laughed nervously as he saw his own funeral. “This is uh… awkward.”
“I told you you shouldn’t just barge in here like that!” Kirishima followed behind him. So that’s why he wasn’t answering the phone?!
“Sorry, guys! Um, the villain’s quirk didn’t kill him! It did something crazier but we need Midoriya and Bakugo now!” The two looked at each other from across the room and slowly walked toward them before they all jogged to Katsuki’s car.
“What the hell, Dunce Face?!” Katsuki interrogated. “Ya gave us all a heart attack!”
“I never told anyone I was dead! I can’t control the media!” Denki defended himself as they all got in the car and buckled their seatbelts.
“Where the hell are we going?!” Katsuki questioned as he started the car.
“Why do you need us?” Izuku wondered. “What’s going on?! I’m glad you’re alive, by the way!”
“This is so weird!” Kaminari sighed at his voice.
“Yeah, really weird!” Kirishima agreed.
“What’s weird?!” Izuku and Katsuki questioned.
“Okay! Um! Start driving to Kirishima’s apartment!” Kaminari insisted as Katsuki pulled his car out of the lot, “Okay! So the villain didn’t kill me! But he did use his quirk on me!” Denki began to explain.
“What’s his quirk?!” Izuku questioned.
“It sends you to other dimensions! Or I guess I alternate timelines?! Different universes! I don’t know!”
“What?! That shit doesn’t exist!” Katsuki snapped.
“It does!” Denki insisted. “It’s really crazy! One moment, I was chasing that villain, and the next? I was drowning in a frozen lake! In an ice cold tundra! And get this! I couldn’t use my quirk!”
“What good is your quirk in a lake?!” Katsuki scoffed.
“I don’t know! I tried everything! Anyway, I was totally gonna die when Midoriya saved me!” Denki said excitedly.
“I saved you?” Izuku blinked.
“Not you, Midoriya. But uh, Other Midoriya! This is gonna be really hard to keep straight! Anyway, he jumped in and saved me! Then he brought me to Other Kirishima! Iida was there too! And Todoroki, and Shinso and Hawks and Aizawa-Sensei and Present Mic-Sensei and even Rody from Oseon!”
“What about Kacchan?” Izuku wondered.
“I’m getting to that!” Denki chuckled nervously. “Everyone was there and they were really upset with Midoriya for jumping into the ice water because… Gosh, I don’t know how to say this without making you crash your car, Bakugo!”
“Spit it out!” Katsuki snapped.
“He was pregnant!” Kaminari exclaimed, making Katsuki slam on his breaks.
“HUH?!”
“WHAT?!” Him and Izuku questioned at the same time.
“Pull over the car, it gets worse.” Kirishima put his hand on Katsuki’s shoulder.
“Okay! So in this universe, they’re like descended from wolves or something?! So they all have weird hierarchies! Uh and- the lowest hierarchy can all breed, boy or girl! They’re called omegas! And boy ones are really rare but I guess every Midoriya is rare in every universe!” Denki chuckled.
“Who the fuck knocked him up?!” Katsuki asked angrily.
“That would be you.”
They both froze.
Katsuki awkwardly looked back toward Izuku whose entire face was burnt red before they both quickly looked away from each other.
“S-so… um… Other Kacchan was mad at Other Me for saving you?!” Izuku tried to get Kaminari to go back to the story.
“Unfortunately, Other Bakugo died.” Kaminari informed them. Katsuki looked up at his rearview mirror and could see Izuku’s pained expression.
“He never even found out Other Midoriya was expecting before it happened so… the rest of their pack was really protective of Midoriya! They all tied me up and questioned me and everything! But eventually they let me go and even let me join them on their journey!” Denki rambled. “I thought I was stuck there forever so I began trying to understand their instincts! I really wanted to be an alpha too! You can’t fake instincts but I couldn’t help but be protective of Other Midoriya too! One morning, he went out without telling anyone to walk the pet wolf Bakugo left behind and I followed him out! We ended up going to a well and suddenly my quirk returned and I was back here!” Denki told them. “I don’t know what triggered it!”
“So other than telling us about another universe where I’m dead and he’s knocked up and making things really fucking awkward between us, why do you need us, huh?!” Katsuki questioned.
“I uh… didn’t come back alone.”
Katsuki turned the car back on and immediately made a beeline for Kirishima’s apartment! If this other Izuku was here in a scary new universe, expecting a child of all things then he needed to at least pay him a visit!
“Hold on, shouldn’t we think about this, first?!” Izuku questioned.
“What’s there to think about?! You heard him! There’s another you and he’s having my kid! He’s probably scared shitless!”
“Or he just needs to get back home with this wolf pack who cares for him?!”
“They’re not actually wolves.” Kaminari interjected. “Just descended!”
“Either way! Shouldn’t our focus be the villain?! Then we can get him back home!” Izuku suggested.
“You gotta meet him first, I think!” Kirishima asserted. “And um… he asked to see Bakugo. It’s the least we could do for the little guy.”
“Won’t that be cruel?” Izuku questioned. “If he’s going back home then-”
“We don’t even know if he can go back home!” Katsuki snapped. “We don’t know anything about this quirk. If it’s weird for you, you’re welcome to stay in the car!”
Izuku wondered why Kacchan was getting so worked up! Wasn’t this just as weird for him?! Having been… that way with each other in a different universe? Having a kid together?! Izuku knew he had his own weird hangups when it came to his childhood friend but Kacchan would never feel that way about him! Maybe he wants to be a dad?
When they got to Kirishima’s apartment, Izuku didn’t know why he was so nervous to see… himself! Especially his pregnant self?! This whole thing was crazy!
“I’m gonna go in first and tell him you’re here!” Kaminari said before entering the apartment.
Izuku felt disoriented as he heard his own voice through the door.
“Kaminari-kun! Is he–”
“Yes. Bakugo’s right outside! Midoriya, wait!”
Izuku’s eyes widened as a tinier, softer, heavily pregnant version of himself burst the door open and froze at the sight of Katsuki.
“KACCHAN!” He burst into tears as his knees wobbled. Before he could fall to the ground from overwhelming emotion, Katsuki caught him and kept him stable.
“Hey. It’s alright.” He said awkwardly before the omega grabbed his face and looked into his eyes.
“You’re alive…” He threw his arms around him before sobbing into his chest and Izuku felt his stomach twist at the sight. Kacchan held the other him so softly and after an agonizing five minutes, the omega turned toward Izuku and quickly backed away.
“Oh… I’m sorry! It’s just– My Kacchan died and my pup started kicking when your Kacchan caught me and I got so overcome with emotion! You’re so kind to let me see him! Thank you! I promise I won’t take him from you or anything, I just-”
“Um….” Izuku had a pained expression on his face. “It’s fine. We’re not- Uh. In this universe…”
“He’s with someone else.” Katsuki supplied.
“What?!” Omega Izuku looked between them incredulously. “You’re not mates?!”
“We don’t have those in this world! Um…”
“But– But Kacchan’s so amazing! How could you be with anyone else?!”
“Uh….” Izuku didn’t know what to say as he looked at Kacchan’s annoyed expression. “Things are very different in this world!”
“They can’t be that different! See?” Omega Izuku grabbed Katsuki’s arm and flexed it. “He’s still strong and smells good!”
“I know how good he smells! I mean- ” Izuku shook his head. “I know how strong he is! Things are just not like they are in your world!”
“Speaking of, until we’re able to get him back to his world, we thought maybe it would be best if he stays with one of you?” Kaminari suggested.
“I’ll take him.” Katsuki said without hesitation.
Izuku watched as the omega version of himself smiled and blushed happily. Suddenly, an ugly feeling welled up inside him. “Then I guess, I’ll help you find that villain Kaminari…” He grumbled.
“We can start that tomorrow…” Denki showed Izuku his phone which was blowing up. “I have a lot of explaining to do now!”
“When you do that explaining, don’t tell the world about him!” Katsuki asserted. “Who else knows about this?!”
“Just everyone in this room.” Kirishima informed him.
“Good. Keep it that way.” Katsuki grabbed the omega’s hand and Izuku felt a pain in his chest as his childhood friend glared at him over his shoulder. “You live close to here, right Izuku? Mind walking home?”
“Uh… yeah. I can do that.” Izuku blinked.
“They have cars in your universe?” Katsuki’s voice softened as he turned his attention back to the omega.
“What’s a car?” Omega Izuku blinked.
“Come on, I’ll show you!” Katsuki grinned as Izuku watched them walk down the hallways.
“Typical Bakugo. He sees a Midoriya. He’s gotta show off.” Denki chuckled.
“Why did you bring him here?!” Izuku uncharacteristically snapped.
“It’s not like I meant to, Midoriya, I didn’t expect it either! I thought you were all about helping everyone?!”
“I-I am. I just…” Izuku calmed himself down. “I’ll see you tomorrow!” He stormed down the hall.
Kirishima watched Izuku angrily leave his apartment building before turning to Kaminari.
“You sure this isn’t one of your twisted plans?” He raised his brow.
“It’s not.” Denki grinned. “But it sure is working!”
Katsuki felt surreal being in the car with a heavily pregnant Izuku. An Izuku who was heavily pregnant by him! Which meant they did things in that universe that Katsuki never even thought possible! The Izuku next to him in the car was one who– He shook his head.
“Is something wrong? Am I doing this car thing incorrectly?!” The omega fretted. “Should I have a wheel too?!”
“You’re fine!” Katsuki chuffed. “It’s just weird, is all! This whole thing!”
Izuku blushed heavily as he squirmed in his seat. “It’s weird for me, too! I mean, you’re Kacchan! But you’re not Kacchan! I know nothing about you or this universe but I also know everything about you! Do you still like spicy food?”
“Yeah.” Katsuki sighed.
Izuku looked at him before chuckling fondly. “You are Kacchan, then!”
“Are you still a damn nerd?” Katsuki questioned.
“Is that like a smartass?” Izuku rubbed his hand on his chin. “You like nicknames here too, huh? Do you still call me Deku, here?”
Katsuki paused. Fuck. Was he a bully there, too?! “It’s changed its meaning over the years…”
They then passed a giant billboard for Hatsume’s company advertising the return of Hero Deku. Omega Izuku blinked at the sight before looking around wide eyed at all the hero posters and advertisements.
“Why am I- I mean- Why is he on top of that building?! Isn’t that embarrassing?!”
“Sorry, I know this place is a lot to take in, but we’re all pretty well known here! Which is why we gotta find some way to disguise you so you can be outside without a million crazy reports coming out of it!” Katsuki informed him.
“This universe sounds exhausting!”
“What about yours?” Katsuki questioned him. “Besides the weird wolf thing, what’s the ‘All Might’ of your universe?”
“You have Chief All Might here, too?!” Izuku brightened.
“Chief All Might?”
“Mmhmm! Mmhmm!” The omega nodded excitedly. “Chief All Might was a legendary alpha who had no pack! But everywhere he went, he was said to bring peace and prosperity! Several towns had statues in his honor! Kacchan’s goal was to be even better! He was going to unite all those towns and find a way to bring summer back!”
Katsuki stared at him before smirking. “And what about you? What was your goal?”
“To help people. I thought All Might was so cool! The way he wouldn’t leave a town until everyone had food and shelter! If Kacchan was going to bring summer back, then I had to join him and help him do it! He didn’t want me to at first! He tried really hard to make me stay away because I was an omega! But I snuck in the wool of the ram he brought with him and-” He burst into laughter at the memory, “He was so mad!” Izuku giggled more before cupping his belly. “But it all worked out.”
Katsuki looked at the blush on his face and couldn’t help but blurt out, “Did you love him?!”
“Of course!” Izuku didn’t hesitate. “How could I not? He was summer.”
Katsuki stared at him as he felt his heart squeeze at the fond look on his face. He parked his car before grabbing the hood on Izuku’s coat and putting it over his face. “In case there’s any vultures. Come on.” He unbuckled his seatbelt for him and led him inside.
Izuku walked into Katsuki’s loft and was amazed by how huge it was.
“THIS IS YOUR SHELTER?!”
“Pretty cool, huh?” Katsuki questioned before the omega turned to him uncomfortably.
“You live here all by yourself?” He questioned sadly.
“Yeah, we don’t do the whole pack thing.” Katsuki shrugged before closing the door behind them. “But we do take off our shoes when we’re indoors.” He pointed at the omega’s dirty snow boots.
“Oh! I’m sorry!”
“Don’t worry! You should get comfortable! I’ll get you something to wear!” Katsuki walked up the stairs, quickly.
Izuku looked around the large space before he removed his shoes and his coat. He suddenly felt self conscious about the way he looked and smelled. It had been a few days since the pack took a bath together. And this Kacchan didn’t have an alphas nose! He thought back to the Izuku he met. He was clean looking and while he didn’t smell like pine cone and mint, he did smell nice!
The omega glanced over at a magazine that was on a side table. It had this universe’s Izuku on the cover. He slowly walked over and grabbed it. Looking at a taller, more muscular version of himself was strange. He was wearing some sort of mechanical suit and the words said ‘Hero for the weekend? Deku-Sensei spills all!’
Izuku was about to open the magazine when he noticed a pile of papers it was sitting on top of. He grabbed one and saw it was drawings of that mechanical suit he was wearing! Designs and design revisions?
There were two different hand writings back and forth on one.
‘It has to have a cape!’
‘Capes are out of style!’
‘Keep the damn cape!’
‘No cape!’
“What’re you lookin’ at?!” Katsuki’s voice startled him, making him drop the designs on the floor.
“Ah! I’m sorry!” Izuku tried to pick them up but it was hard to bend over with the pregnancy!
“Relax! I got it!” Katsuki put his hand on his shoulder before picking them up. He then brought them to a trash can and threw them away. “Here.” He gave him the clothes on his arm. “I have a guest room no one’s ever used. You can change there!”
“Thank you…” Izuku said sadly.
“What is it? It’s not a big deal if you looked at those, I’m not mad!”
“This, um, thing…. On the magazine and billboard and stuff. You helped make it for me? Or for this me?” The omega asked.
“Yeah, I did.” Katsuki shrugged. “It’s cool, huh?”
“Yeah. It’s really cool! Um… what are we in this universe? If we’re not mates, and I’m with another alpha-”
“It’s not an alpha. It’s a girl.” Katsuki rolled his eyes.
“Either way, if I’m not with you then what am I to you! What are you to me?” Izuku questioned.
“I don’t know.” Katsuki sighed. “We’re just us, I guess. Always together, whether I like it or not! That’s what I always said, anyway! But now– It’s harder to be that! That suit wasn’t enough to get him to join me as heroes together, so now I gotta actually make time to see him and I’m running out of excuses!”
“What do you mean?” The omega blinked. “You actually asked him to join you on your journeys?! And he said NO?!”
“I mean he’s got a whole career as a teacher and all that which I guess he’d rather do than be a hero! Which I think is bullshit because our whole lives-” Katsuki began to vent when the omega suddenly burst into tears and threw his arms around him.
“Hey… what’s the big idea?!” Katsuki questioned as Izuku held him tight.
“You must be so sad! For Kacchan to actually ask– For Kacchan to do so much…” Izuku grabbed his face and caressed it softly as he looked into his sad eyes. “You love him here, too, right?”
Katsuki looked to the side dejectedly, confirming the omega’s suspicions who cried harder.
“I’m sorry!”
“Hey! It’s not your fault!”
“I don’t know about this one…” Izuku hiccuped as he wiped his own tears. “But in my universe, if you’re mated, you can feel everything the other person is feeling! And my Kacchan loved me so much! It was overwhelming sometimes! If you feel anything like that then I know how much you’re hurting right now! It’s not fair!” He sobbed. “It’s not right!”
“It’s not the end of the world.” Katsuki sighed. “I don’t deserve him.”
“Don’t you dare say that!” Izuku puffed his cheeks angrily.
“I don’t know about your guy, but I was fucking cruel to this Izuku! I pushed him around and said awful things! Awful things he never deserved! It’s been years since then but I regret it every day! I told you Deku has changed in meaning over the years, but when I first said it, it was to call him useless! And to this day–” Katsuki’s voice cracked as he backed away from the omega’s comfort. “To this day, he still fucking believes it! Deep in his heart! So no, I don’t deserve him!”
The omega slowly approached him before wiping his tears with his thumbs. “I bet he loves you, anyway. I know he loves you, anyway! He has to! Cause you’re the Kacchan I know inside and out! You lash out when you’re scared and I’ve always terrified you!”
Katsuki pulled him in tight and sobbed into his hair. “How could you love me?!”
“Because you’re the brightest light I know….” Izuku smiled at him. “Brighter than any sun in the sky!” They were suddenly interrupted by the pup kicking frantically.
“Is that-” Katsuki’s breath hitched.
“Mmhmm!” Izuku blushed.
“Can I-” He hovered his hand over his belly.
“Please do!” Izuku encouraged him.
Katsuki felt the pup kicking around and was absolutely amazed at the living creature they made together. Even if it wasn’t technically him! He knelt down and pressed his ear to his belly and couldn’t help the smile that spread across his face.
