Gotham City Shippers and the Case of Spoiler and Cassandra Wayne

1.

Bill the Henchman had survived a decade in Gotham's underworld, which was more than most could say. He had been shot, stabbed, and once bitten by Killer Croc (he still had the scar on his calf to prove it). But never, not once in all those years, had he managed to pull off something that actually impressed his boss.

Until now.

By some miracle or divine prank, he and the rest of Penguin's crew had successfully kidnapped Cassandra Wayne. Wayne heiress. Adopted daughter of the Bruce Wayne. Untouchable Gotham royalty.

It was supposed to be their payday, the kind of ransom that would buy him early retirement and maybe a condo in Blüdhaven.

Except Bill had a broken arm from when she "accidentally" twisted it like a soda can while being tied up. And none of the Bats had even shown up yet. Usually by now, he'd have been dangled upside down over an alley by Batman or strangled with his own jacket by Nightwing. But no. Tonight, Gotham's favorite vigilante family was running late.

Lucky him.

Bill adjusted the splint on his arm and leaned against a crate. His men groaned on the floor, still recovering from being casually dismantled by a girl who hadn't even said a word. Cassandra sat tied to a chair in the middle of the warehouse, eerily calm, like she was waiting for the bus.

Bill muttered to himself. "Should've stuck to robbing ATMs."

The warehouse doors slammed open with a crash that made the rafters shake.

"Alright, jerks, time for a beatdown!"

Spoiler. Purple hood, cocky voice, fists flying before anyone could even blink.

Bill sighed. He didn't even bother picking up a weapon. He had learned long ago that when vigilantes showed up, resistance only earned him extra bruises. And besides, he couldn't exactly fight with one working arm.

Within two minutes, Spoiler had his crew groaning on the ground again. She hadn't even noticed Bill standing off to the side. Typical.

"Any day you guys want to stop being useless, let me know," she quipped, brushing dust off her gloves. Then she turned to Cassandra.

"Cass, you okay?"

Cassandra blinked. One slow nod.

Bill frowned. Cass? How the hell was Spoiler on a first-name basis with her? This was her first kidnapping as far as he was aware.

And then, Spoiler did something no vigilante ever did in Bill's experience: she crouched down and brushed a strand of hair from Cassandra's face with a kind of tenderness that didn't belong in a dingy warehouse.

Bill's eyebrows shot up.

Now, Bill wasn't an idiot. He knew opportunities when he saw them. Vigilante videos got clicks. Clicks meant money. And with his busted arm, he wasn't going to be working steady gigs for a while.

So, with the casualness of a man who'd been beaten up by costumed weirdos too many times to care, he pulled out his phone, hit record, and better yet started a livestream.

"Alright internet," he muttered, keeping his voice low, "welcome to Bill Gets His Ass Kicked, episode eighty-seven."

At first, he expected Spoiler's usual tough-girl speech: something about justice, staying in school, not kidnapping heiresses. Instead, what unfolded looked suspiciously like the beginning of a romance drama.

Spoiler leaned close to Cassandra, her voice soft. "You scared me, you know that? Don't just go getting kidnapped like it's nothing."

Cassandra tilted her head. Her lips curved, almost a smile. "I am sorry."

The chat on Bill's phone exploded:

[BatFan92]: WAIT WTF??
[GothamiteGurl]: omg are they DATING??
[ClownH8er]: this is better than cable tv keep rolling dude
[WingNut23]: Cass said THREE words!!! mark it down in the history books!!

Bill squinted at the screen. Three thousand live viewers already.

Spoiler looked flustered. Which, Bill knew, wasn't her usual vibe. Usually she was all sass and sarcasm, throwing punches and insults with equal speed.

She pulled out a batarang and carefully cut the ropes around Cass's wrists. Their fingers brushed. Spoiler froze. Cassandra didn't pull away.

"I-uh-" Spoiler stammered.

Cassandra whispered. "Thank you."

Their eyes met.

Bill muttered under his breath. "Oh, they're definitely dating."

Cassandra must have heard him as she glanced towards him. Her sharp gaze flicked past Spoiler to Bill's phone.

In one swift motion, she slipped off her flat shoe, aimed, and threw.

Bill barely had time to blurt, "Oh fu-!" before the shoe smashed into his phone, shattering it instantly. The impact clipped his temple too, and the world went dark.

The last thing he saw was his viewer count ticking past four thousand.

When Bill woke up hours later, he was in police custody. His broken arm ached, his phone was in pieces, and Penguin was definitely going to fire him.

But none of that mattered, because the guard escorting him to the van was grinning ear to ear.

"You see the vids?" the guy asked.

Bill groaned. "What vids?"

The cop pulled out his phone and shoved it in Bill's face. Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and every Gotham news feed was plastered with clips from his stream before Cassandra's shoe cut it short.

#SpoilerCass was trending everywhere.

"City's convinced Spoiler's dating Cassandra Wayne thanks to you," the guard said, chuckling. "People are making fan art already. Look at this one! Drew them with wedding dresses. Cute, right?"

Bill buried his face in his good hand. Batman was going to kill him.

By the end of the day, coffee shop baristas were debating whether Spoiler preferred Wayne Manor or her own apartment. Talk-radio hosts were analyzing Cassandra's tweets from the past, trying to decipher when the relationship started, like they were trying to solve who was Jack the Ripper.

At a bar downtown, two old mobsters clinked glasses.

"You see the thing with Spoiler and Wayne's kid?" one asked.

"Yeah. Better love story than whatever Joker and Harley were supposed to be," the other replied.

Even Batman, grim as ever, couldn't escape it. When he showed up on a rooftop, one of Gordon's officers cleared his throat and asked, "So, uh… any truth to the Spoiler and Wayne thing?"

Batman's glare could have frozen lava.

2.
Spoiler had faced assassins, clowns, and her own supervillain of a father who thought clues counted as personality. But nothing, and she meant nothing, prepared her for the sight of two mid-level goons nervously raising their hands in the middle of a fight.

She had one pinned to the pavement, the other dangling by the collar.

"Uh… hey," the first one stammered, "no offense, but…did you and Wayne's kid, y'know…kiss yet?"

Spoiler froze. "WHAT?!"

The second goon scrambled. "It's not, like, weird! We just…wanna know if she's off limits. I mean…dating a Bat? Especially you or Red Hood? That's a death sentence for us if we even try."

Spoiler's mask couldn't hide the blush creeping up her neck. "Excuse me?! That's not-! We are not-! Who even told you-?!"

"Whole city," the first goon said, dead serious. "They all ship it. Fanart is cute too."

Spoiler dropped him immediately and backed away like she'd just been hit with kryptonite. "I-I don't have time for this!"

But she couldn't shake the warmth blooming in her chest or the way Cassandra's smile flickered through her mind like a spotlight. She vented her frustation on her dad later that night.

Cassandra herself didn't talk about the rumors.

She just kept showing up at events, silent as always, while billionaires and civilians alike stared at her expectantly.

One night, a reporter dared to ask, "So, uh, Miss Wayne… you and Spoiler, is it official?"

Cass tilted her head, considering. Then she said, simply: "Private."

The reporter nodded like she'd just handed down a court ruling.

Criminals weren't so tactful. During Black Mask's attack at Wayne Manor, one particularly jittery thug blurted out, "We just wanna know if you're off-limits, okay? 'Cause, like, we don't need Spoiler wrecking us worse than usual!"

Cassandra blinked. "Off-limits," she confirmed.

The thug sighed in relief. "Cool, thanks for clarifying."

Weeks passed, and the ship finally seemed to return to the void.

The Wayne Foundation's annual fundraiser was supposed to be boring. Spoiler, stuck in her civilian identity, had the perfect excuse not to attend. But Cassandra didn't have that luxury. She stood by Bruce's side in an elegant dress, every inch the Wayne heiress.

Of course, the Joker crashed the party.

Smoke bombs, gunfire, terrified socialites. It was chaos. And in the middle of it all, Bill the Henchman was back phone in hand, recording. This time, though, it wasn't for YouTube clicks. It was for the Joker himself. Something about capturing the moment or whatever.

Cass fought with graceful precision, disabling henchmen in heels like it was nothing. But then came the explosion. A chandelier nearly crushed her.

Spoiler burst through the smoke, still in her civilian dress but masked and hooded now. She grabbed Cass, pulling her into a tight embrace, both of them breathing hard.

"You're okay," Spoiler whispered, relief flooding her voice. "God, Cass, you're okay."

Cass leaned against her shoulder, eyes soft. "You came."

Bill zoomed in on his phone. Gotham would love this!

Until Spoiler noticed.

Her fist smashed the phone to pieces. Then she punched Bill in the face so hard he hit the floor like a sack of bricks.

3.
Bill the Henchman never thought his life would spiral into this.

He'd survived mob wars, Gary's endless incompetence, even an incident involving Scarecrow and hallucinogenic donuts. But nothing was as surreal as standing in the middle of a secret Court of Owls hideout, surrounded by masked aristocrats who were… arguing about a ship.

"They're clearly together," one said flatly, leaning over the balcony.

"Rubbish," an Elder sneered from his perch. "They haven't kissed yet. I have five thousand on slow burn."

Another masked noble fanned herself. "No, no, it's mutual pining. Very lucrative odds."

And there, in the middle of it all, chained to a pillar, were Cassandra Wayne and Spoiler.

Spoiler yanked at her restraints, glaring at Bill like this was somehow his fault. "You. You're filming this again, aren't you?"

Bill sheepishly held up his phone. "Look, don't blame me. They said if I didn't record, they'd let the Talons use me for knife practice."

Spoiler's voice rose an octave. "THAT IS NOT AN EXCUSE!"

Cassandra, calm as ever, tilted her head. "He has a point."

Bill sighed. At least one was on his side.

Spoiler was practically vibrating with outrage. "I cannot believe Gotham's secret Illuminati is running a betting pool about my love life!"

"You mean our love life?" Cassandra murmured, eyes soft.

Spoiler turned bright red. "Th-that's not-! We're not-! Oh my God."

The Court chuckled. "Delightful. Such chemistry. Truly, Gotham's entertainment surpasses even the gladiatorial rings of Rome. Anyway please keep recording as we have to take our leave before Batman finds us. Toodles."

Bill stared. Did they just say Toodles? Oh he was too old for this nonsense.

He fiddled with his restraints, then managed to wriggle free when no one was watching. Spoiler noticed immediately.

"Where are you going?!" she hissed.

"Out," Bill muttered. "You can yell at me later. Maybe save me a seat at your wedding while you're at it."

Spoiler's jaw dropped. "Bill!"

But he was already slipping through a side passage, muttering under his breath. "Should've been a plumber."

Bill wandered the labyrinthine halls of the Owls' underground lair. He passed gambling tables, walls lined with ancient weapons, and even a suspiciously well-stocked snack bar.

Finally, he found a service hatch leading to the surface. Fresh air. Freedom. Safety.

He could've left. He should've left. But some nagging voice in his head stopped him.

If Gotham finds out I ditched the Spoiler and the Pricess of Gotham and maybe even their confession moment, they'll crucify me online and in real life...

Bill cursed his own sense of self-preservation and turned back.

By the time Bill returned, Spoiler and Cass had clearly been through something. Their restraints were gone, twenty Talons were unconscious and Spoiler stood close to Cassandra, fidgeting nervously.

"I mean…look, Cass, this whole city thinks we're a thing," Spoiler rambled. "And maybe I keep denying it because…I didn't want to admit they might be right. But I-"

Cassandra stepped forward. Just one step. Enough to close the gap.

Her voice was quiet, but steady. "Want to."

Spoiler blinked. "Wait… want to—what?"

Cassandra's hand slipped into hers. "Us."

Spoiler's heart stuttered. "Oh my God. You're serious."

Cassandra leaned in. Spoiler's mask muffled her gasp, but not the kiss that followed. Gentle. Sure.

Bill's phone was shaking in his hands as he filmed. He knew this was history. He knew Gotham would eat this alive. He knew-

And then Cassandra, without even glancing back, grabbed a batarang from Spoilers belt and flung it.

The phone shattered instantly.

Bill sighed. "Figures."

Despite the destruction, Bill had managed to livestream just enough before Cassandra noticed. And that was all Gotham needed.

By midnight, the city was manic.

Memes. Ship names. Fan edits with dramatic music. The hashtag #SpoilerAndCass trended worldwide.

Even Gotham's rogue's gallery chimed in.

Harley Quinn posted: "Finally! We've been rooting for these two puddin's forever. #BatLove"

Poison Ivy added: "We stan healthy relationships. Take notes, Joker."

Within hours, Gotham had declared it canon.

Bill, somewhere in a Gotham holding cell, groaned. He had no phone, no money, and probably a bounty from both Bruce Wayne and the Goddamed Batman.

But at least, he thought, he'd helped give Gotham the love story of the year.

4.
Bill the Henchman had a rule: never retire in Gotham. You could try, but somehow the city always pulled you back in.

Case in point: his "last" job. Just a simple bank robbery, no supervillains, no clown makeup, no birds or bats in sight. He'd told his crew, "We're in, we're out, no drama."

And then the skylight shattered.

"Seriously?!" Bill groaned as Spoiler landed in the middle of the bank, staff spinning, cloak flying. It had been four years since their last encounter and he finally gathered the courage to buy a new phone!

"You guys know the drill," she announced, cocky as ever. "Put the guns down, and I might only break your noses."

Bill slumped. "Why is it always me?"

But before Spoiler could even start the fight, another figure entered through the hole she made.

Lady Shiva.

The hostages gasped.

"You," Shiva said, eyes locked on Spoiler. "You dare think yourself worthy of courting my daughter? Prove it."

Spoiler blinked. "Wait WHAT?!"

The entire bank froze.

A woman whispered, "Did she just say…courting her daughter?"

Another hostage frowned. "Does that mean Spoiler's cheating?"

The confusion mounted until Dick Grayson who, had just been trying to deposit a check, raised his tied hands and shouted, somewhat panic-stricken, which could have been blamed on the Scarecrow gas that he inhaled last week and still hasn't completely worn off. "She's Cassandra's biological mother!"

Collective Ooooooohs filled the bank.

One guy in the back opened his mouth: "Wait, does that mean Bruce Wayne and Lady Shiva-"

"SHUT UP IF YOU WANT TO LIVE!" several hostages screamed, tackling him before he could finish that particular death sentence.

Spoiler, red as her mask allowed to be seen, threw up her hands. "I don't want to marry her yet!"

The hostages shouted in unison: "WHY NOT?!"

Spoiler groaned. "Because it's not oh my God this is NOT how relationships work!"

Shiva's eyes narrowed. "Fight me for the chance to be able to in the future then."

Bill had long since accepted his role in Gotham: the guy who got beaten up, robbed, and occasionally held at gunpoint by vigilantes. But somewhere along the way, he'd also become Gotham's unofficial romance documentarian.

So, naturally, he hit record.

"Welcome back, folks," he muttered under his breath. "Bill Gets His Ass Kicked, episode three hundred and nine: Mother Edition."

The fight was brutal. Spoiler gave it everything, flipping over desks, striking fast, refusing to back down. But against Lady Shiva, the world's deadliest assassin, she didn't stand much of a chance.

Shiva's strikes were precise, devastating. Spoiler stumbled more than once, bruised and gasping, but she still refused to give up.

"You're insane!" Spoiler shouted between blows. "You can't just parent-trap me into marrying your daughter!"

Shiva parried her strike easily. "If you are to be Cassandra's equal, you must earn it."

Spoiler fell hard, staff clattering across the marble floor. The bank was silent.

And then Shiva extended a hand.

"You fight with heart. It is…acceptable."

Spoiler blinked. "Did I just…get your approval?"

"Reluctantly," Shiva replied.

The hostages erupted into cheers. Bill was glad his phone wasn't destroyed until he realized that he heard beeping beside him. He only glanced at the Batarang that Spoiler threw during the fight in blind panic before it exploded ,destroying his phone and knocking him out.

By the time the GCPD arrived, Bill's footage had already gone viral.

#SpoilerApproved trended instantly.

"Spoiler fought Lady Shiva for Cass's hand and won approval??? This is like medieval romance but with more bruises."
"Imagine explaining to someone that the World's deadliest assassin basically just gave her blessing at a bank robbery."

Harley Quinn tweeted: "Told ya Spoiler had the chops. #WeddingBells"

Wayne Industries' official Twitter followed with: "You can't make this stuff up. Rooting for them harder than ever."

Minor headlines slipped under the radar: Batgirl Beats Cluemaster Senseless.

Cluemaster had apparently gotten too loud about opposing his daughter's romantic life. Batgirl handled it swiftly.

Within hours, Gotham had a new trending ship: Batgirl x Stephanie Brown.

The memes were endless.

5.
By now, Spoiler and Cassandra Wayne were Gotham's longest-running soap opera. Their ship had survived kidnappings, livestreams, Joker attacks, the Court of Owls betting pool, and Lady Shiva's bizarre "approval duel." But Gotham's citizens had a new question:

How could Spoiler and Cassandra actually get married… without exposing Spoiler's civilian identity and Gotham potentially loosing one of its heroes? It was a question that was debated often and always without a good answer.

One guy, an anonymous Reddit user known only as u/LogicInTheNarrows, posted a 27-page plan. It included:

  • A multi-layered fake identity for Spoiler, complete with forged social security numbers and a job history that checked out.
  • A staged Vegas wedding under aliases, followed by a Gotham reception "for the aesthetic."
  • A detailed plan for children, including custody arrangements, inheritance loopholes, and how to raise kids without revealing the Batcave.
  • Retirement contingencies involving "Spoiler teaching self-defense classes for kids."

It was convoluted. It was absurd. And it checked out.

Two days later, Bruce Wayne hired him as an intern at Wayne Enterprises.

Bill the Henchman had, at long last, managed to find a quiet evening. He and a handful of fellow goons, members of Gotham's semi-unionized "Goonion", sat around his battered apartment table, playing cards.

"You're cheating," one of them muttered.

"No, you're just bad at poker," Bill replied, smirking.

Then his window shattered.

Spoiler tumbled inside, rolling to her feet with the grace of someone who had done this far too often.

Bill dropped his cards. "WHY is it always MY house?!"

Spoiler dusted herself off. "Relax. I'm not here to fight."

The goons stared at her, hands half-reaching for weapons.

Spoiler raised her hands. "Okay, listen, I need your help."

Bill blinked. "With… what?"

Spoiler sighed. "I want to propose to Cass. But if I even think about it near her, she'll know immediately. She's…Cassandra. And I can't risk talking with anyone else because she has regular contact with them by now, and they could give me away, so here I am with you guys."

Bill groaned, putting his head in his hands. "This relationship has cost me four phones already."

Spoiler winced. "Yeah, sorry about that."

Surprisingly, the rest of the goons warmed up to the idea.

"Proposal's gotta be big," one said.

"She deserves the best," another added.

"Do it at a gala. Always drama at a gala," a third suggested.

Spoiler hesitated. "…But wouldn't that mean holding it hostage?"

Bill sighed. "Yep. Welcome to Gotham Proposals. But don't worry we'll plan it out classy."

Within an hour, the table was covered in notes, blueprints, and discarded pizza boxes. They even made a timeline:

  1. Infiltrate the Wayne Gala (easy; Bill's crew had done it before).
  2. Fake a heist to get everyone's attention.
  3. Wait for the right moment.
  4. Spoiler proposes.
  5. Destroy Bill's phone because by this point it is a tradition.

Spoiler stared at the plan. "…This is either the dumbest or the sweetest thing I've ever seen."

Bill smirked. "Both. That's Gotham."

Two nights later, the Wayne Gala was in full swing. Crystal chandeliers glimmered. Socialites sipped champagne. Bruce Wayne smiled politely.

And then Bill's crew stormed in, guns raised.

"Alright, nobody move!" Bill barked. "This is a-"

One brave woman in a glittering gown shouted, "What do you want from us?!"

Bill didn't answer. Instead, he slowly pulled out his phone and hit record.

The crowd murmured. They recognized that look. They'd seen those shaky livestreams before.

Something was happening. Something big.

Cassandra Wayne, elegant in a sleek black dress, stiffened. Her assassin-trained instincts picked up the shift in the room instantly. She turned-

And found Spoiler kneeling before her.

Her staff lay discarded. Her mask was still on, but her voice shook with emotion.

"I did say I'd sneak up on you eventually," Spoiler said. "I just…I couldn't hide this anymore. I love you, Cassandra. Will you marry me?"

The entire gala gasped. Glasses clinked to the floor.

Cass's lips parted. For once, she seemed almost stunned.

Then, softly, she whispered: "Yes."

The room erupted into cheers. Guests clapped. A string quartet in the corner started playing a love ballad without being asked.

Cass pulled Spoiler into a fierce hug, then kissed her.

Bill, still recording, felt a lump in his throat. He'd filmed hundreds of beatdowns, hostage crises, and melodrama. But this…this was history. The First Vigelante to propose in their secret identity.

And for once, he didn't wait for Cassandra or Spoiler to smash his phone. He smashed it himself, tossing it aside.

The two women didn't even notice they were too busy holding onto each other.

The moment was cut short by a familiar voice and a hand on Bills shoulder.

"While I thank you for this moment, I think you should leave, Gentlemen.".

Bill swore under his breath as he saw Alfred Pennyworth. "Time to go, boys."

The goons slipped out quietly, blending into the chaos. By the time Batman arrived, the only people left in the spotlight were Spoiler and Cassandra, still embracing, still oblivious to the Dark Knight's glare.

Bill, jogging into the night, couldn't help but smile. For once, a Gotham job had ended with something good.

By morning, Gotham's internet was on fire.

Clips of the proposal flooded social media. People who had been at the gala posted shaky phone videos (before Batman confiscated most of them).

"THEY'RE ENGAGED!!!" screamed every headline.

One fan wrote, "Bill destroyed his phone himself this time. Truly character growth."

+1
For once in Gotham, there were no explosions. No Joker. No gala held hostage. Just quiet laughter, clinking glasses, and the faint glow of lanterns strung between ivy-covered trees.

It was Spoiler and Cassandra's wedding day.

And Bill the Henchman, the man who had unwillingly chronicled their entire romance, was standing at the edge of the garden with a rented high-definition camera balanced on his shoulder.

"Can't believe this," he muttered to himself. "Me. Professional Henchman. Hired as a cameraman for Gotham's strangest power couple. And this time…they even paid me."

His broken arm had healed years ago. His face had finally stopped swelling from Spoiler's last punch. And now he was here, wearing a slightly wrinkled suit, recording vows that made even hardened vigilantes tear up.

Cassandra barely said more than three words, but her look said everything. Stephanie rambled and cried and laughed in the middle of her own speech, and Cassandra held her hand steady the whole time.

Bill sniffled. "Alright…maybe this is worth one last busted camera."

The kiss came. Applause followed. The Waynes cheered from the seats, pretending they weren't tearing up. The Bats must have been doing the same from the shadows as Red Hood could have been seen clapping in the background.

And Bill? Bill was proud to have been part of something good for once.

After the ceremony, with guests mingling, Bill turned the camera on himself for once.

"Well," he said, voice gruff. "That's it. The end of an era. Been recording these two for years now. Phones destroyed, livestreams crashed, goons confused, Gotham screaming on the internet. And now… married."

He sighed, almost smiling. "Guess this is the last time I'll be dragged into their love story. Unless they have kids. And if they do…I'm retiring before Spoiler punts me into orbit."

Bill wandered away from the garden, aiming to shut off the camera. The reception's noise faded behind him.

"Well, folks," he muttered. "That's all. No more SpoilerCass drama. No more phones getting destroyed. Just peace. Finally."

He lowered the camera. His thumb hovered over the "End Stream" button.

And then he froze.

At the edge of the manor grounds, hidden behind a hedge, Batman stood with Zatanna.

Not glaring. Not brooding. But actually smiling.

She brushed a hand against his chest. He leaned down, just slightly. The air shimmered faintly with magic.

Bill's eyes widened. "Oh… no. Nonono."

He adjusted the camera reflexively, catching the moment in perfect clarity. The livestream chat exploded instantly:

"BATMAN???"
"WITH ZATANNA????"
"OTP ALERT!!!"
"BATMAN AND ZATANNA ARE GONNA KILL THIS GUY"

Then Zatanna's eyes snapped to the lens. Her lips moved. A glowing sigil formed in the air, heat rolling off it like fire.

Bill screamed. "OH C'MON!!!!"

The screen erupted in sparks as the magic ripped through the feed. The livestream cut to black.

AN: And thats it! Thank you for reading!
