Chapter Text
Katherine went out for paint with Abaddon. Again. She hoped that meeting together in the middle could be more than a one time thing. It really seemed to take a toll on him to act like that. Or maybe he threw up blood because he cut his hand off. Either way it reattached itself and he was fit to go with her.
Maybe he could learn more and be better. Or at least pretend and not get caught in front of others. The last possible good outcome is he restrains himself from causing hijinks in town and...leave it to happen in the hotel.
That place was a dumpster fire anyway. He could have a designated room for Abaddon stuff. Whatever that may be, Katherine thought to herself
She held in hand as they walked in the hardware store and went to the route with the least people. No one was approaching them so it seemed like Abb addon hadn't harrassed any of the ones they passed by yet.
"I fail to see the reason why I have to accompany you when Esther or Ben would have been sufficient." He said getting a few looks because his vocabulary was quite far for someone who was superficially nine.
"This is another learning opportunity for you. In case I actually need to take you to town in the future for some reason. And those two can handle themselves fine without bringing others into their mess. You specifically mess up at bring it to other people. You mess up gardens at night. Really?"
"Well I still try to do my duty as a torturer and hell spawn." He said matter-of-factly.
She grabbed the paint that's closest to the color of the wall at home and dropped the exact amount at the cashier's after it was scanned.
"You're more like an annoyance really. A nuisance. A little hiccup in these people's lives." She replied, still dragging him by the hand to the car.
She stopped before entering and made him look at the people in the park.
"See? What you did isn't terrorizing their every waking moment."
Everyone had a smile on their face whether big or small.
"Curious. I distinctly remember their horrified shrieks at discovering me in their homes." He muttered, kicking a rock away.
He went into the booster seat and clicked himself in place.
He was thinking about it now. Was he bad at his job?
"I'll tell you this. You're like a rabid stray cat. And I mean that literally. Getting on top of counters, ruining gardens, and taking down animals are all things felines participate in." She said with an amused look.
She hadn't a frown on her face anymore!
Even she was thinking his work was silly!
Abaddon was aghast at this revelation. It seemed like he needed to take things up a notch and really live up to his title.
He was about to start scheming when he heard the first few notes of beach music and his head went fluffy.
"You like this right?"
"....yes. It soothes me."
He let out a yawn and closed his eyes in the backseat as they drove off. Perhaps he could start plotting later.
.........
When he awoke he was in bed and it was night. Someone carried him in. Because he couldn't levitate. No matter how hard he tried. For the past centuries.
Downstairs Katherine and her kids were cooking dinner. He was just in time.
The air smelled of sausage and cheese.
Could it be?
He looked at the pot Esther put on the table.
It was!
The golden soft precious cheese and pasta dish was made. Macaroni and cheese!
He had reservations towards the family when they first arrived but after some time together and joining them for the first dinner together that was this very same dish months ago he warmed up to them.
You couldn't get that in hell.
"I shall set the plates." He called out to signal his presence.
The three just nodded at him with pleasant expressions on their faces. They must be as happy as he was to have mac and cheese for dinner, he thought to himself.
Nathan passed through a wall and stopped at the edge of a table with an unopened seat. He never ate, couldn't really, but he always still joined them for meals. Ben had the sausages ready and their mom put the plate full of them on top of the tab.
It was time to eat.
