June 22nd starts as a deceptively normal day for Yuuri Katsuki.
He wakes up at 6:00 AM, like every other day, does a quick stretch and enjoys a cup of fresh green tea before the rest of his band members wake up. When they do, the dorm enters it’s usual state of morning chaos as Guang Hong and Phichit rush bump into each other in the narrow hallway. Once everyone looks presentable, Mr. Kim drives them to their first schedule of the day: a performance for their latest comeback at the MuCore building.
Normal, normal, normal.
He’s in the middle of an intense scene starring, as per usual, his idol and international heartthrob Viktor Nikiforov, when the sound of Phichit screeching wakes him up from his blissful daydream.
“Holy cheeseballs! Yuuri is going to have a heart attack. Seungie, do you see this??”
“Yes, I do,” Seung-Gil’s deadpan voice floats into Yuuri’s consciousness from nearby. “Also, you just woke him up from his nap.”
“Armpgh,” Yuuri groans.
Viktor had just procured a particularly delicious looking raspberry cream square and was slowly lowering it into Yuuri’s eager mouth with his beautiful, elegant hands. They’d been sitting on the beach, the warm sun shining onto his face (and onto Viktor’s delicious looking abs).
“Oh, good!” Phichit exclaims, with absolutely no remorse for his poor best friend’s blissful fantasies. He leans over, shoving his phone screen directly in front of Yuuri’s face.
Yuuri blinks, rubbing his eyes as his eyes are forced to acclimatize to the brightness of Phichit’s phone. “Huh?”
“Ah, glasses, Seungie, hand him his glasses!! Hurry, I can’t wait any longer!”
Without a word, Seung-Gil passes Yuuri his glasses from the table and continues faithfully reading his textbook. The five members of HeartBeat are currently at Music Core, preparing for an upcoming performance for their latest comeback DM.
Leo and Guang Hong are in the chairs getting their makeup done and chatting quietly, while Seung-Gil and Phichit having already finished. Seung-Gil is sitting calmly on the couch in their, and Phichit’s bouncing up and down as though he’s about to explode serves as a stark contrast between the band’s two main vocalists.
Yuuri accepts the glasses, giving their leader a grateful nod. Vision enhancements successfully put in place, he can finally see exactly what the news article on Phichit’s phone screen says.

“Oh god,” he says in horror. This is seriously not good.
“Isn’t this awesome?” Phichit asks enthusiastically. “Viktor Nikiforov noticed you!”
Viktor Nikiforov isn’t supposed to know that Yuuri even exists, he’s just one (extremely enthusiastic) fan out of millions! Yuuri has revealed far too much about his obsession over the Russian actor online for this to be anything but a terrible embarrassing experience.
Viktor Nikiforov – famous actor, singer, radio host, and philanthropist best known for his record breaking performance in the drama King’s Prism, loves interacting with his fans. From these adorable interactions on Twitter to his regular lives chatting and answering fan questions, there’s no doubt that Nikiforov holds a special place in his heart for his supporters.
His most recent live stream has gone viral, but for an incredibly wholesome reason! As any fan of K-pop surely remembers, netizens were taken by storm three years ago at the 2019 MAMAs when freshly debuted Yuuri Katsuki of MNET’s first international group HEARTBEAT went insanely viral for this GIF of him pole dancing.

Every so often, this iconic GIF returns in one form or another - whether that be a newly debuted idol citing it Yuuri as one of their dance role models, or just randomly trending on Naver because of his sheer star power. But of course, no one could have expected Viktor Nikiforov, widely known among Beats (HEARTBEAT’S official fandom title) as Katsuki’s idol, to be the one to bring back this iconic moment this time! It’s trending on various internet forums, with this tweet already amassing over 100k+ likes on Twitter. Viktor has clearly taken quite an interest in Yuuri, and we simply can’t wait to hear what Yuuri’s response is to his favorite idol’s invitation to grab dinner is!
Could this be the origin of a new superstar friendship?
With great trepidation, Yuuri clicks the video. It buffers a little – ironically, MuCore is notorious for their terrible WiFi, despite being one of the biggest broadcasting programs in South Korea.
Upon finally loading, Viktor appears on the screen. He’s sitting on a grey suede couch - a Fendi Casa limited edition offering that he had purchased after winning Rising Actor of The Year in 2015. Yuuri remembers that day fondly, cheering in his room in Hasetsu with Yuuko.
Viktor’s famous silver hair is still wet, and he’s clad in a deceptively simple black shirt that’s probably some luxury brand, knowing Viktor’s countless deals and sponsorships. He isn’t consecutively #1 in Brand Reputations for the past two years for nothing, after all!
Viktor’s laptop is in front of him, and Yuuri recognizes with horrible familiarity the music playing. The slowed, reverb version of their debut title track To Heart. Yuuri still can’t believe how the producers managed to remix this adorable, innocent song into the seductive mess of intense bass and husky voices - it was an absolute slaughter of their innocent concept.
“Oh,” screen-Viktor says as he takes a sip from his mug. Even without makeup or any jewelry, Viktor looks incredible. “I remember this! Chris sent this to me a couple years ago, I think.”
At the bottom right, the Twitter user who posted the clip has helpfully overlaid The GIF™ atop Viktor’s VLive, and Yuuri cringes when he sees himself in a loose black satin shirt and slacks. Once the dance break begins, video-Yuuri slowly climbs onto the pole while the rest of his members temporarily head backstage.
Basic invert, sliding up using his thigh muscles, rotating into a Fireman Spin – and the moment that has plagued him for years: The GIF™ – a tumultuous beat drop timed perfectly with Yuuri’s spin, and then the crowd explodes into chaos and screams. How did his button even pop like that? Yuuri thinks to himself. Why me?
“Oh my,” Viktor says – and Yuuri flushes bright red. Viktor sounds interested, in him. Poor, plain Yuuri Katsuki. He must still be dreaming.
Viktor’s voice lowers into a husky baritone that has Yuuri convinced he’s hallucinating this entire experience. Viktor has the same look as the scene in King’s Prism where he was about to kiss the male lead after their dramatic argument. The dream, all sharp angles and burning eyes, that had made his fans (and Yuuri) go crazy. “Wow.”
Yuuri gulps. Is the room suddenly incredibly humid? The AC must be broken…
Suddenly, Viktor smiles brightly, all traces of seduction gone. “That was amazing, a work of art, really! Thank you for recommending it to me, you guys. You always have the best suggestions.”
With a sinking heart, Yuuri snaps out of his delusional thinking. There’s no way Viktor is into him. Viktor probably didn’t even know who Yuuri was before yesterday!
Of course, in classic roller coaster fashion, Viktor’s next sentence throws him for yet another bender. “Well, Katsuki Yuuri, that was very impressive. If you ever want to get dinner, you have my number. Get in touch, OK?”
The video ends, leaving him with a reeling mind and far too many questions unanswered.

“You have Viktor Nikiforov’s phone number and you didn’t think to tell ME?” Guang Hong screeches, having returned from the makeup chair. Together, him and Yuuri are the HEARTBEAT Viktor Nikiforov fanclub co-captains.
“Yuuri has Viktor’s phone number?” Leo chimes in.
“Apparently so,” Phichit nods solemnly. “And to think, we wouldn’t have known this unless faithful Twitter user nikiforovpics uploaded the VLive clip. I feel betrayed, really.”
“Guys, guys, wait,” Yuuri defends himself frantically. “I have no clue what Viktor’s talking about. There’s no way I actually have his number, I’ve never even talked to him before!”
“I can’t believe my fanclub co-captain kept this information from me for so long!!” Guang Hong half-shouts half-cries. “I thought we were friends, Yuuri-kun.”
“I am!” Yuuri protests. “I’m serious, I have no recollection of this at all-”
“Katsuki! It’s time for your makeup, get your butt in this chair immediately or else you’ll miss your performance. We only have 15 minutes left,” their makeup artist Jisoo yells.
“We’ll be talking about this later,” Phichit points his finger in good-fashioned nature as Jisoo drags Yuuri to the makeup booth chair.
