Work Text:
Rev woke up to the familiar sound of raven’s attempt to meow, strained due losing a few vocal cords. Didn’t she normally bother Mark first? He had gotten
used to raven waking up Mark first then Mark would loudly get ready waking him up. He looked around the dorm to see that Mark was nowhere to be found. He
even closed his coffin. Guess he already left, not that he minded the quiet. He quickly got dressed and headed out to class.
Rev was confused. He hadn’t seen Mark at all yet. Sure, they didn’t have any classes in the morning together. But Mark always tried to stop by rev’s locker
between classes, despite literally living with him. Talking about random things he couldn’t be bothered to remember. Not that he wanted to talk to him, it just
was… abnormal. It's fine, he can figure it out at lunch when Mark gets there.
As Rev sat at the lunch table he saw only sera at the table, sitting in her usual spot.
“Hey, is Mark still in line?”
“...maybe.”
“What do you mean?”
“...haven’t seen him all day.”
“WHAT?! Wasn’t he in class?”
“....no.”
“THEN WHERE IS HE?!”
She just shrugged and started to eat. He turned to his own food. If he’s not in class or in the dorm, then where is he? Wait…why is he so worried. It’s not
like he cares about that moron. That guy got his amulet fused with that stupid cat, he literally dragged him to undead class, and is so annoying. With his constant
talking while Rev is working on homework, he constantly hums little tunes for no reason, he always tries to help him for some reason, and he is always wearing
that stupid, sweet smile and. Wait..SWEET?! Why the hell did he think that?! Before he could think further an annoying voice chimed in
“Hey zombie boy, don’t have your guard dog today?”
Wendy had snuck up behind him. Just great.
“I don’t have time for this wendy, go away”
“Grumpy without your little boyfriend?”
“Fuck off Wendy, he's barely my friend.”
“Could have fooled me with the way he follows you around.”
Just as he pulled out his codex prepared to launch her across the cafeteria, the scream of the bell rang out. He pushed past Wendy, completely ignoring
whatever she was saying. He went to rehabilitation still wondering where he could be. If he found a way out and didn't tell him he will kill him.
“Alright students, you are dismissed.”
Finally he can try to–
“Mr.Vennett, can you stay behind?”
Great, what did he do now? He hasn’t even tried anything today. He walked to the front of the classroom.
“What?”
“It’s about your roommate Mark. The principle should be–”
And as he said those he found himself once again in the principle’s office, now with Mr. Lovecarft too. She looked to Rev.
“Mr.Vennett, you may have noticed Mark's absence today?”
“Yeah, so what? Is this my problem?”
“Well you see, it kind of is. You know how vampires work, yes?”
“Yes?”
“Well the school normally provides him with blood but we haven’t been able to get any for the last two weeks. Only adult vampires can really last without blood but as Mark is still a child he needs it desperately. We can get blood soon but it's going to be one more week.”
“And why do I need to know this?”
“Well you see there's a chance Mark might try to take your blood. So we have been trying to find a spare dorm for you, to no avail. So we need you to be extra cautious around Mark which is why we're giving you this.”
Mr. Lovecraft hands over a small glass vial with water, is this?
“Holy water, in case he can’t hold back. Should buy you time to run.”
“Seriously? This is the best idea you got?”
“We know this isn’t ideal but–”
“Whatever, i got it”
As he slammed the door behind him he looked at the small bottle. So Mark was in the dorm all along? Hiding because he’s hungry? Rev didn’t really get how
hunger worked, it can’t make Mark so senseless he actually has to use this right? He slid the holy water into his shirt pocket. Guess that's why Mark's coffin was
closed. He can deal with this after undead class.
He headed back to the dorm, almost forgetting about Mark until he walked in and was reminded by his closed coffin. He looked at it unsure, should he
bother him? I mean he still had the holy water so… he knocked on the coffin.
“Hey…are you in there?”
“Rev?”
He could hear even through the coffin that he sounded weak, like worse than the flu.
“Are you…okay?”
“Don’t worry dude I am okay, just a little hungry.”
Again that word, hungry. He still didn’t get it, but it sounded painful for Mark. He tried to focus on homework but the guilt was weighing him down. It felt
like he was just letting Mark suffer in that coffin. He said he was too scared to get out, even when told him about the holy water. He couldn’t take the silence
anymore, and he had one idea to fix this. He put the holy water on the desk and walked over to the coffin. He placed his hand on the lid.
“Mark, I think I have a plan to help you.”
“Rev it's fine, they said the blood will get next week. I can live until then.”
“But you can’t even go to class anymore. You're clearly in pain.”
“Rev, it's fine, I don't want to worry about me.”
“Im not worried i just…its just annoying to be on garud in my own dorm.”
“What is your plan anyway Rev?”
“...Have my blood.”
“WHAT?!”
Mark shot open the coffin with a face of surprise. Looking at him, Rev could see how awful he looked. His hair and clothes were disheveled, he was sweaty,
and it looked like he tried to eat his pillow.
“You need blood and well, mine isn’t doing anything. Plus I can't die so you can take as much as you need.”
“Rev no, i cant do that to you, i could hurt you and–”
“Mark.”
Rev grabbed Mark's hands holding them to the rim of the coffin as he kneeled next to it. A bit of blush formed on Mark's cheeks.
“Mark, it's fine. It won’t kill me and.. I trust you. I know you won't hurt me on purpose and–”
“So you're sure about this?”
Mark had a look in his eye that Rev didn’t fully recognize. He was so focused on Rev it kinda unnerved him. Something told him he wasn’t in his right mind.
But it was Mark, he can’t be too crazy right?
“Yes, im sur–”
That was all needed to her as he yanked Rev towards him and took a deep bite into his shoulder with no warning. It hurt a bit more than he expected it too.
He could feel the draining of his blood a little too well. Mark was holding him tight and desperate, is this hunger? To need something this bad? He almost kinda l
liked that Mark needed him, but quickly banished the thought. He needs the blood, not me. And then Mark let go revealing the noticeable bite on his neck. Rev
looked at Mark, who seemed to kinda loopy?
“Did you have to bite my neck you moron?!”
“He he…You taste like black Licorice”
“WHAT?!”
And with those words Mark flopped into the coffin instantly falling asleep. Rev just sighed and tucked him in. He grabbed the holy water from the desk,
putting a small drop on his finger. He then put the finger to the bite. It was like salt in a wound. He put the bottle away and went to bed. Guess the bite was here
for now. But as he drifted to sleep, he wasn’t even sure if he minded.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The next morning Mark woke up feeling refreshed. Man, what happened? He wasn’t supposed to get more blood until…suddenly, the memories of last night flooded in and so did his panic.
“Rev?…REV?!”
He started shaking Rev awake when he saw the bite that confirmed his fears. Rev slowly opened his eyes
“What's going…oh. Hey Mark. I can see you are doing better.”
“Rev im so sorry, i wasn’t thinking i was just so hungry please tell me i didn’t kill you i–”
“Mark, I'm fine. I didn’t even pass out. I said you could bite me anyway.”
“Yeah but–”
“Mark it's fine, just glad I could help.”
Mark froze. For a second he could have sworn Rev had a slight smile. Did he really do this for him, no questions asked, no favors?he felt a tear forming in
his eyes. Then without thinking, he jumped into Rev’s bed, hugging him tight.
“You're the best rev, I can't thank you enough.”
“GET OFF ME YOU OAF!!”
Rev shoved him off, red all over his face.
“Let's just go to class.”
Once they were about to leave, Mark realized something important.
“Uhhhh rev?”
“yeah?”
“How are we going to explain the bite on your neck? We don't have anything to hide it.”
“....shit”
