Work Text:

Logan had just come out of the bathroom when there was a light knock on his door and he hurried over before the person outside could knock again, glad that he had at least had time to brush his teeth. He could not think what anyone wanted from him this early, only half past nine, but knowing the other sides it could really be anything.

He opened the door, no more than halfway but that was already more than enough to show that he was still in his pajamas and he wished that he would have gotten dressed earlier, a thought that he forgot as he saw all three of his fellow sides outside his door, Patton in front, with a sleepier looking Roman and Virgil behind him.

“Morning, Lo!” Patton told him, smiling brightly but thankfully keeping the volume down. Roman gave a tired nod and Virgil his usual salute, and Logan got the impression that they were mostly there to show support in whatever Patton wanted.

“Good morning.” Logan said, trying to remember if today was anything special, if maybe he was needed by Thomas or by them.

“We just wanted to catch you early to confirm tonight’s family movie and game night, just to make sure you don’t double book yourself or forget about it.” He said, clasping his hands together and hitting him with what Virgil usually referred to as his ‘most lethal puppy-dog eyes’.

Ah.

Logan had… totally remembered that that was tonight.

“Right, of course.” He said, hoping that it seemed genuine enough. He had excused himself from the past two ‘family fun’ nights as Patton and Roman often called them, so he supposed that this one was more of a non-negotiable kind of thing, hence the reminder, with the backup.

Well, Logan supposed that it could not hurt, movie nights and game nights certainly had the potential to be fun. It was just that, well, lately he had had some other things going on.

“I’m sorry if we woke you up, you’re usually up by now so we thought it was safe to come knocking.” Patton added, glancing him up and down with a more sheepish look, reminding Logan of his current outfit and making him wish that he had not worn the unicorn print pajama set that they had gifted him for his appreciation day.

He saw Virgil nudging Roman, whispering something to him, and Logan did not quite care to pay them any attention. It had been a gag gift more than anything else, but they had given him the pajamas, he might as well wear it.

“Oh, it’s alright.” Logan told him, not bothering to mention that he had actually been awake before they knocked, even if not for all that long. Then they might just ask why he had not been down for breakfast like usual. After all, he was often the first side up.

“Late night?” Roman asked with a really strange expression, one that did not quite fit the situation but it was a little bit too early in the morning for Logan to give it much thought. He needed his coffee before taking on the strangeness of his fellow sides.

“Oh, I suppose. I got a bit distracted.” He said, which was true enough.

“I’m, uh, I’m sure you did.” Virgil said, with an equally odd, but different expression and Logan paused. Roman was one thing, he usually found Logan odd in many ways. Virgil, however… it made Logan wonder if there was anything else going on.

“Hey, L,” Virgil began again, clearing his throat awkwardly and not quite meeting his eyes, “entirely unrelated, but did you know the mirror on your closet door is like perfectly angled to reflect your bed from here?”

Logan felt how his whole body froze, for just a moment, as the implication of Virgil’s words hit him. Then he closed his eyes, briefly, giving himself just a second to brace himself before sighing and opening them again, looking back and confirming that, sure enough, the closet door was just slightly ajar and showing the other three a reflection of his bed.

Of Janus and Remus, asleep in his bed.

…Logan was glad they were heavy sleepers, but there went the secret that they had been doing such a good job keeping.

Logan looked back at the three of them, now having a much easier time placing their varying expressions of embarrassment (Patton), disgust (Roman), and shock (Virgil). He took a deep breath, having no interest in hearing their opinions about it in general and definitely not now before they had even had the time to process it.

“Fine, I suppose the figurative cat is out of the figurative bag. I am in a relationship with Janus and Remus, and have been for several months. And I will not be answering any questions about it at this time.” He said, which didn’t stop all three of them from opening their mouths and Logan took a step back and closed the door before they could say anything.

He groaned, quietly, and pressed a hand to his face before turning back towards the bed, where Janus and Remus were thankfully both still sleeping, blissfully unaware of the mess that Logan had just created for them.

They would have had to find out some day, he supposed, but he had hoped it would not be soon, what with how Janus and Remus were just barely accepted among them, and what with how Logan feared that this would give the others even less reason to listen to him.

Not wanting to stand there and think about it, and not wanting to wake his boyfriends just yet, Logan decided he might as well take his morning shower–even if it would hardly stop him from thinking about it, from imagining over and over again what the other sides might have to say about it, or how they would react when he saw them again.

As he had so many times before.

He took an extra long shower, hoping the hot water might burn away the uncomfortable and lingering feeling of his mistake, and what it might result in. It did not help much, but what did help was once he got out of the shower and checked his phone for the time, instead seeing a message from Virgil telling him that Patton extended the family fun invitation to Remus and Janus too, if they wanted to.

…Maybe the other sides finding out about their relationship was not about to go as badly as he had always feared.
