They lay quietly, sweat cooling, breath ragged, sheets tangled.
Tom stared at the unfamiliar ceiling. ‘Well, I didn’t see that coming.’
‘Me neither.’
A shiver rippled through him. ‘It was… damn good.’
Mary smiled. ‘Yes, I missed this.’
‘Sex?’
‘Not just that. The closeness. The way it feels to be… really seen.’
He nodded, understanding. ‘It gets lonely sometimes, doesn’t it? Even when you’re surrounded by people.’
She looked over at him, wondering if this deeper connection could last beyond tonight. ‘Maybe we can keep doing this, then? If you’re willing.’
Heart thumping, he caught her hand. ‘Whenever you want.’
