A sigh escaped Severa's lips. She looked upward at the blue sky she shed so many tears for, that she lost so much blood to preserve. Yet here she was, alive. Even when her mothers sadly weren't. At the very least, this reality's version of them would live long fulfilling lives. She adored them, loathe as she was to vocally acknowledge it. But she knew they weren't technically her mothers. They weren't the women who birthed her, and raised her. They were parallel versions of them.
She was a parallel version of the daughter they hadn't gotten around to having yet. They insisted that they loved her, and she believed them, but the thoughts in her head wouldn't stop. That when their "real" daughter was born, she needed to bow out. She knew her companions like Lucina and Inigo were having similar concerns. At the very least, she knew that no matter what, she wouldn't be alone. Not only did she have her wife Noire with her, but she was perpetually joined by her child.
She wasn't sure how she felt about the idea of her child being older than the other version of her and her brother. However, that was their fault for taking so long to get her and Yarne born. She didn't have infinite time, she wanted to have a kid before she ended up being a gray haired old woman.
It wasn't her fault that her Moms were taking way too damn long. Peace had been won, Grima was dead, there wasn't much to worry about at the moment. Regardless, that wasn't what was important. What was really important was preparing for her kid. They wouldn't be born for a while. It was so early that she didn't know their gender or really anything about them. She did know that she already loved them however. As cheesy as it was to say.
That wasn't all she was starting to get. She was slowly seeing the perspective of her moms. The idea that one would do anything to make sure their kid was happy and healthy. She wanted her parents alive and well, however if she was given the choice between her kid's life and her own, she'd pick the former any day of the week. She hoped that she wouldn't have to make that decision. She'd do her damnedest to live for their kid. She didn't want to put her child through the hell she and Yarne had to go through.
At the very least, a future version of the child hadn't come back to tell her off or anything. She supposed that was a good sign? It didn't really stop her anxiety though. She gave her mothers so much heat, yet she had no idea if she'd be any better. She knew she was rough around the edges. She knew she had problems. She was terrified of the idea that she'd push that onto her kid one way or another. That was the last thing she wanted. Her problems were hers, not the kid's.
Severa felt a gentle tap on the crown of her head. She looked upward and saw Noire looking down on her with a smile. She reached behind her back and placed a flower crown on her head.
The pigtailed brunette shook her head fondly. "That's so corny..."
Noire giggled. "You're still blushing though..."
Severa scowled as her blush deepened, looking not too dissimilar to a tomato. "Shut up!"
She'd matured since those days of constantly yelling at her friends, and yet the more things changed the more they stayed the same. The venom in her heart had since been weakened, but it didn't change her instinctual response to being flustered.
Noire walked to Severa's side and took a seat. Severa laid her head on her wife's shoulder. Noire's hand drifted to Severa's stomach, prompting a blush from the latter. She put her hand on top of Noire's, getting a blush from her now. It was true that Severa was terrified of having a child, but she was also excited. She'd get to do it with her childhood friend, her best friend, her steadfast partner in life. The two of them could balance each other out. Of course she was still scared, but reminding herself of that did help when her heart started to race.
Severa could help Noire be a bit more stern than she'd be otherwise. She was probably scared of doing so, not just because of how timid she normally is, but she'd be scared of terrifying her, like she was terrified of Tharja. Noire loved her mother, that was just an unchanging fact, like their need for oxygen to live. She'd never not love her, and Severa knew the feeling was mutual. It didn't change the fact that what Tharja did affected her personality, and Noire didn't want that pushed onto the life they were going to bring into the world.
On the other hand, Noire didn't have too much of a problem with being aggressive when the situation called for it. That was another fear Severa knew the archer had. That she'd overreact with her child. It was one she shared with Severa. Even if her persona was born of a desire from Tharja that her daughter survived, it didn't only show up in life or death situations. If their kid did something bad, either of them could find themselves yelling at the poor thing.
That was why they would both have to regulate the other. They'd both have to check themselves, and work on themselves before their kid was old enough to really remember things. They'd both been talking with their friends and practicing staying calm. It wasn't something Severa saw herself doing too much before she was pregnant. Now, she was probably the most calm and patient that she'd ever been, as ironic as it was that it happened during a time her hormones were out of wack. She just hoped it stayed that way. She'd always be Severa of course, but she'd be a Severa who was a great Mother.
She started smirking to herself. She could see her kid bragging about how great her parents were. And perhaps how great her grandmothers were as well. As much grief as she gave the two, she knew they did the best they could. Both versions of them. In spite of how cruel people were to her about Cordelia, she herself always treated her with love. In all honesty, she hoped that she could be half as good a mom as her.
Panne could be strict, but she was always fair. She had no idea how to be a Mother, given her being the last of her people before she and Yarne came around. She had to learn fast because of them, and she did great. Neither of them were perfect, but she didn't think her or her brother would be the people they were without them.
Speaking of her brother, he was pretty damn excited too to be an uncle. Of course, he was always glad to see new taguel be born, since it'd put less stress on him. Honestly she wasn't sure how she felt about that, but she knew his heart would always be in the right place. Just like them, in spite of his massive thanatophobia, he'd die to make sure his loved ones were safe. Of course, like her, he'd rather live, but so would just about anyone. She thought her kid would have a lot of fun with him as a family member.
Considering how close Severa was to the other kids from the future, they'd have a huge, if a bit strange, family. She smiled fondly at the idea of the rest of them doing what they could to support the couple and their kid. Like Inigo trying to teach them confidence, hopefully in a less obnoxious way, or Owain acting as a jester to the kid, constantly making them laugh.
"Severa?"
"Hm...?"
"Have you thought of any names?"
Severa shrugged. "We've got time, no need to rush it. Don't need to get ahead of ourselves."
"True but, that time will pass before we know it."
Severa sat up and folded her arms. In reality, she had been thinking up names. Almost none that she particularly liked yet though. Especially since she didn't know their gender. And only Naga knew if they'd even keep the name. Noire didn't keep hers after all. She'd accept a new name if they came at her with one, but it was still affecting her decision making. She didn't want to half ass a name, because it was more likely they'd keep it than not. However, there was a part of her wondering if putting an insane amount of thought was a fool's errand, given they were under no obligation to keep it.
Severa looked away. There was one name that stuck out to her despite all that. "True enough... Sable...?"
"Hm?" Noire tilted her head. "Oh! For a name?" She smiled softly. "You didn't come up with that on the spot did you? You've been thinking about it a lot?"
Blood rushed to Severa's cheeks again. "No... Maybe... Whatever, what do you think?"
"It's cute!" Noire exclaimed.
"It's... gender neutral just in case they're like you." She explained. "It also means dark brown, like..." She tugged at a pigtail. "Like my hair. It's also a color like your name so... I think it works."
Noire snorted. She tried her best, but she couldn't suppress the incoming giggle. "Sorry, I'm not laughing at you. You're just... you're too cute."
Severa scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Of course I am."
"I love the name. I'll make sure we at least consider it."
Severa smiled. "Good, good. We've got time to come up with other names anyway."
Somehow, Noire could always ground her even when she didn't know what was going through her head. She supposed that's just how strong their relationship was. Severa thought so highly of Noire, even if she struggled to say it. Noire understood that she wasn't the best with words though, and accepted that. She accepted Severa, faults and all. The least Severa could do was accept Noire in turn. As someone who knew her before she was Noire. As someone who has had to hold her hand on the way to the bathroom. Sure she'd get annoyed from time to time. But she'd do it again, any day of the week. Noire was always worth it, and Severa knew she knew how she felt.
There were times where it felt like Noire could understand her with no words. Like she could read her heart. She wouldn't have been surprised if there was a hex or something she could use to do so, and yet she also knew she hadn't. Noire was just that perceptive. Once again, it was also just how strong their relationship was.
Severa fell onto her back and placed her hands on her stomach. She started to sniffle as the tears threatened to fall. She knew there was no point in hiding it, and thus let her dam burst. She started sobbing loudly, which was soon accompanied by hiccuping. Her fists rushed to her eyes as she continued.
"Severa!? Are you okay!? What's wrong!?"
"C-calm down... I'm just... I'm so happy!" Severa exclaimed through her tears. "Everything... for once in my life... in our lives... is actually going right! We're in love, we have a baby on the way, the world is safe! It felt like, there was always something to worry about! Sure, the world isn't perfect, there's still bandits and thieves and stuff! But we don't have to constantly watch our backs! Neither will our kid! It's just... this is something I'd had never dared to dream of when we were in the future... We're... We're safe...!"
Noire listened to her wife's speech before she started smiling. "I guess you're right... The world will never be perfect but... it's better. We made it better. Not just for our kid but... For our friend's kids, for kids everywhere. No one will have to grow up like we did."
"Mhm!" Severa enthusiastically agreed.
The chances of some other threat showing up wasn't zero. They both knew that. Yet as long as they stuck together, they could handle it. Kids could now worry about what they'd be eating next, instead of when. She couldn't be happier.
