Pink and Gold

Summary:

White Lily took another step forward, arms crossed and an eyebrow raised, “You could have made it green. Would represent me better.”

The Golden queen's expression changed slightly. Just enough for White Lily to realize something was about to happen, though she didn't know what. It was still smug, but more like Lily had fallen into a trap of some kind.

“Sounds to me like you just want to paint my kingdom green!” Golden Cheese shouted and rushed forward.

White Lily squealed and scrambled away, running towards the golden throne to hide behind it. Golden Cheese was laughing behind her, using her wings to catch up faster.

Notes:

Started this a few months ago and never got around to finishing it. Figured it's still nice enough to post anyway.

Work Text:

In full truth, the banner looked awful surrounded by the gold of the Cheese Kingdom.

White Lily knew that it was meant to represent her and her efforts to mend her mistakes. She still felt like she hadn't done enough, as if she would never fix what she unleashed all those years ago. But small things like this helped to ground her through the guilt.

Golden Cheese had already come to terms with everything. She'd yelled and cried and poured out her heart during a meeting they had a mere five years ago. They'd rekindled their friendship pretty well by now. White Lily had been putting her everything into helping rebuild the kingdom.

It was mostly her following Golden Cheese's plans and trying to make sure the cheese birds were doing okay while everyone else was busy.

The kingdom was mostly rebuilt by now. Enough that a celebration was in order.

Which brings back the problem of the banner…

White Lily could tell that the color was meant to replicate her eyes, but she couldn't figure out why it had to be dark fuchsia. It could have been white. It could have been green. Those would have been more obvious in representing her.

“Having fun staring?” A regal voice accompanied near-silent wing beats. Golden Cheese landed with a gracefulness that can only come from a lifetime of flying.

White Lily sighed. “It's pink.” Her glare at the offending banner was obvious. The disdain had to be obvious to anyone that even glanced at her.

“It matches your eyes.” Golden Cheese supplied, voice just smug enough that White Lily could figure out the motivation behind this choice.

“You're messing with me!” She accused, taking her eyes off the banner to whirl around on the radiant queen.

“I'd never.” Golden Cheese lied, smug grin on full display. She placed a hand on her chest, “I'm hurt that you'd ever accuse me of such a thing.”

“Why else would it be pink?!” White Lily cried playfully.

“I like the color of your eyes. They're gorgeous.”

“And you didn't think that any other color would look better?” By now both of them were closing the space between them one step at a time.

“No!” White Lily yelled back, her own giggles covering the sounds of wing beats. She peaked around the throne to see where Golden Cheese had gone. There was nothing there.

A soft thump behind her-

White Lily booked it again, almost tripping over her own dress in her attempt to avoid the queen.

“What do you have to say for yourself?!” Golden Cheese called from behind her somewhere.

“Maybe I do want to paint it green!” She ducked into a different hallway, laughing when Golden Cheese squawked indignantly. Lily grinned at the sound of footsteps following her now.

She turned with the hall, heading in what she vaguely knew would be a big circle back to the throne room.

Lily was a faster runner than Golden, and all she needed to do was stay where the queen couldn't fly.

Easier said than done, though. She hadn't considered that Smoked Cheese might be hanging around. And she hadn't considered that Golden Cheese would realize that before her.

“GRAB HER!” Golden Cheese called out with a laugh.

Smoked Cheese looked at them with more concern than she thinks she'd ever seen him express in all her time here. He seemed to be trying to figure out what was happening.

White Lily wasn't going to risk running to him though, and nearly bounced off the wall in her hasted to turn around.

Golden didn't waste time in grabbing at her with a triumphant laugh. She pulled Lily into a tight hug, which the other woman struggled to get out of.

White Lily vaguely heard Smoked Cheese yell at them to get a room, but she was too busy pushing at Golden Cheese to really pay him any attention.

An idea occurred to her then, a brilliant idea. She stopped pushing at Golden's arms and instead skittered her fingers down across the golden queen's sides.

It worked beautifully. Golden Cheese let go with a startled shout, moving her arms to cover her torso.

White Lily grinned and laughed. Oh how the tables turn. She wiggled her fingers and stepped forward threateningly.

Eyes widening, Golden Cheese shot upright and took off down the hallway, back the way they had come. “No no no no no-” She chanted as she ran, trying desperately to get somewhere she could fly.

White Lily gave chase, laughing maniacally as she gained on the queen.

Just as they reached the end of the hallway, Lily managed to tackle Golden to the ground. They went sprawling out but neither dwelled on it, each too busy trying to get to their feet to resume their game.

Golden was up again first, unfurling her wings to take off.

“No!” White Lily yelled, wrapping her armed around Golden's legs to knock her down again.

They wrestled on the ground for a moment. Lily would take any chance she got to tickle Golden, and the queen would try to wrangle her down without getting tickled. They were both out of breath from laughter.

Each time one of them got away, the other would pull them back in. Lily could feel her braid starting to come apart. She could also feel one of Golden's wings wack her in the side.

“Hey!” She shouted, fumbling her movements just enough for Golden to grab her wrists.

Next thing she knew, her back was against the floor and Golden was straddling her waist to keep her down. Her hands were pinned beside her head and the main thing she saw above her was Golden Cheese's face.

The golden queen was triumphant, clearly smug about her win even through her heavy breathing. She stayed hovering above White Lily. Their breaths mixed in the air between them, a fact Lily seemed to focus on.

In fact, the white haired woman became overly aware of their entire position pretty quickly. With Golden Cheese straddling her and keeping her hands pinned. Not to mention that their faces were so so close…

She felt her face heat up, a bright blush no doubt taking over. Oh crumbs…

Golden realized a moment later, her eyes traveling from Lily's red face to where she had her hands pinned. She didn't move though. No. Instead she leaned down more, eyelids drooping down into a more sultry look.

“Something wrong, dear?” She teased. She adjusted her position some, moving her hips to lean more into the taller woman.

White Lily didn't say anything. She just shrunk in on herself a bit. Oh how weak she was for that look.

“You seem a little hot.” Golden continued. “Maybe a little bothered.”

The woman under her scrunched up her face at that. She raised a brow and laughed. “What?”

“Ugh,” Golden cringed back, letting go of Lily's wrists. “Yeah, that one wasn't the best.”

Lily kept giggling while she stretched her arms out above her. “You think?”

The radiant queen just rolled her eyes with a giggle of her own. It was nice to just laugh like this.

“She doesn't, actually.” Smoked Cheese's voice came from the mouth of the hallway behind them. He was back to his usual look now, all smug and rude.

“Oh hush.” Golden scolded him. “I think plenty!”

“Yeah with your-” he was cut off with a disgusted sound of his own as White Lily grabbed Golden Cheese by her collar and pulled her into a kiss. “Nevermind- You both do!”

His staff could be heard clacking down the hallway again, annoyed muttering accompanying it.

Lily laughed again, breaking the kiss. Her arms wound around Golden's neck, keeping her leaned forward.

The golden queen gave her own laugh, but didn't stay away long. She leaned back in to capture Lily's lips in another kiss. Her own hands moving to run through white hair.

They broke apart again.

"I almost feel bad for him." White Lily snickered.

"Consider it his humbling." Golden Cheese laughed, pressing a smaller kiss to White Lily's nose.
