Work Text:

Black nail. Black earring. Mascara.

Polyurethane was an odd one in his family.

He was loud, he was emotional, he put his heart on his sleeve.

He'll be rude to your face if he hate you, he'll act like it's not his problem when he doesn't want to get involved, he'll laugh at you if he think it's funny.

Still, underneath all that, there's still part of him that he's hiding.

He has problem to connect with other people. He want his family's attention. He want his parent to look at him and know that he wish for them to love him as much as he loves them.

But their honorable mother has left. And his respectable father is always busy.

He only has his twin brother to be by his side.

He was aware of his personality. He tried to change and adapt with his surrounding to be easier for people to find him approachable and friendly. He put on the fake mask and have pleasant interaction with those people who he still couldn't remember names.

They had a good time, but he know they too were pretending to him.

He heard of the rumours behind the wall. The talks they had in secret without him around. The hushed whispers as they shared their thoughts about him.

They said he's loud. They said he's abrasive. They said that he's more hard to be around than with his twin brother.

It hurt him inside, but he can't do anything about it. Because he know if he try to do something more to go against them, it could hurt his family's reputation even worse.

He doesn't want his family to be disappointed more onto him.

It was hard. He's stuck between two side.

His rebellious nature inside him want to be free and unrestrained by the rule. His childish nature inside him want to be loved by his family and stay with them.

He obeyed his family's rule and order in utmost loyalty, so that they can see and accept him, perhaps loves him back in return.

But he want to be different. He want to be true to himself. The rules are so heavy that he wish he can take it off and let him be free.

Stuck between both desire, who could ever accept someone like him?

Only his older brother could do so.

His perfect older brother who is more favored by their father, but he still stay and hang around with a problematic child like him.

When Polyurethane would feel alone and scared, it was Polyester who take his hand and guide him in this lonely path.

No one accepted him for his both perfection and flaw, except his older brother.

So he followed his older brother from behind like shadow, listen to his words and help him to make it come true. Whatever his brother want him to do, he be the support and backup for his older brother.

He make himself useful at least to his older brother, clinging tightly to the gloved hand in front of him.

Because if he let go of that hand, he's afraid that his older brother would realized that his little brother is nothing more than a baggage to be carry around.

White gloves. Clean nail. Spotless.

Polyester was the perfect son in his family.

He has charisma, he can be logical, he made sure to have plan before doing anything.

He'll find the solution for the problem that occur, he can be flexible and adapt to any situation, he help to make sure the work can be done efficiently when possible.

Still, beneath all that, he still had to hide something from other people.

The work is tiring. Dealing with people is tiring. Using his brain to deal with some issues when others couldn't is tiring.

He wish he doesn't have to bear the burden. He wish he can just not do the work. He wish he doesn't have to bear the people's expectations.

But he couldn't say anything about it. Not when his respectable father also have big expectations to do things better was also placed onto him.

The only person he know that doesn't look at him with that opinion is his twin brother.

He understands why most people look at him to be perfect. He was the firstborn in his family, he need to lead an example for the others. He need to carry his father's legacy and example so they see the apples doesn't fall off that far from the tree.

So he try his best to be the person they want him to be. He played the role to his utmost perfection so nobody think he has flaw. He danced with their tunes and string perfectly like a puppet.

They can depend on him. They can trust him. They feel relief whenever he's around to help deal with the problem.

It was doable. He has the talent and always know what to do. But it was too much at some time.

It was heavy. It was restrictive. It made him hard to breathe.

But he can't do anything about it. Because if he know if he try to go against what people expected on him, it could hurt his family's reputation even worse.

He can't have his family to see that he couldn't be the person they want him to be. That there is no worth for him be around.

It was hard. He's stuck between two desires.

He wanted to rest and be free from the heavy burden of work and expectations. He wanted to show his talent and capabilities to show that he's better than anyone else.

Part of him is arrogant and feel superior when he could prove of his capabilities.

Yet, it can be tiring. It can be a hassle. It can be annoying when he's surrounded by people with no talent and lack ability to do anything.

No one understands what he want. No one can help and give him the support that he terribly need most of the time.

Well, except his younger brother.

His free-spirited, but obedient younger brother who always follow him and listen to his order in the way that he want. His younger brother who always knows when he's tired and would help him to get some rest and forget about the work when it's over.

When Polyester get fed up and want to let it go, Polyurethane would take his hand and bring him around so they both could have fun and rest together.

It was only his younger brother that help him and always be there for him, fulfilling every of his need even without him saying anything.

So he spoiled his younger brother excessively to relieve his stress, buy him things that he want and gives him praises when he did good job. Whatever his brother want from him, he'll make sure to get it for him.

He make sure that his younger brother doesn't feel burdened by him, clinging tightly to the bare hand behind him.

Because if he let go of that hand, he's scared that his younger brother would realized that he had been trapping him from being free on his own.
