y/n sits by their window looking at the cold night sky as the snow is falling down blowing all over the place. The ground was all white and bright as all the little snow flakes blended into them. y/n watched the snow flakes fall until the silence was interrupted by their mother.
“y/n its time for bed” Joe said walking towards them.
“But we might have a snow day!” y/n whined
“You might but what if you don't have one? you still have to go to bed early tonight” he said.
y/n huffed and got onto their bed as their dad tucked them in. “do you want to hear a story tonight?” Joe asked
“Yes” y/n answered as Joe went over to the book shelf filled with picture books, graphic novels and chapter books.
“What about this one?” Joe asked, pulling out a horse book.
“Nah” y/n said.
Joe shuffled through the shelf again. This time he pulled out a space book “this one?” Joe asked
“No” y/n said again
Joe continued looking and shuffling through the books landing on a book of a show they loved. “What about this one?” he asked
“Yea” y/n said, grabbing a plushie to cuddle with. “There once was..” Joe sat on the side of y/n’s bed softly reading to them. By the end of the story they fell asleep with their plush in their arms.
“... The end Good night sweetheart” he whispered as he put away the book and quietly left the room.
Early in the morning y/n eyes fluttered open as their alarm went off. As they got up to turn it off they peaked outside the window to see nothing but white.
Snow was still falling down a bit faster than the night before but this time all y/n could barely see anything outside aside from trees just barely peaking out from the foggy snow.
Their face lit up seeing the snow covering everything. y/n turned and skipped over to their dad who was just getting to the kitchen
“So do I have a snow day?” they asked coming out of their room.
Joe jumped as y/n popped out “i dont know yet ill go check”
The two headed over to the living room to check the weather and see if the busses were canceled.
The two plopped themselves on the couch as they waited at the sliding text at the bottom of the tv. y/n leaded forward as the crossed their fingers hoping they had the day off.
“All school buses are canceled due to the weather” Joe read out loud.
y/n jumped up from the couch and cheered
“yay! No school no school no school!”
Joe let out a laugh and said “lucky you i still have to get to the present store later on ill open a little late and you can go see your uncle josh after lunch”
“Okay” y/n responded
“Now lets go eat” Joe said
The two had breakfast and after y/n went back to their room and changed out of their pyjamas and into some warmer clothes fit for the snow day. They looked outside the window again, it was still snowing, this time a little bit lighter.
When y/n got down stairs they rushed to the closet to grab all their winter gear “im going to play outside!” y/n said rushing to get it all on.
“Make sure to bundle up and have fun” Joe said
“Ok” y/n replied
As they stepped outside into the winter wonderland the snow they reached down to make a snow ball and rolled it around on the ground creating the base of the snow man. They rolled it around as it slowly got bigger with each push.
Next they rolled its torso around till it was half the size of the base snow ball. y/n let out a huff as they started on the head rolling the third snow ball to be half the size of the torso. When that was done they waddled off to find sticks for arms in the nearby bushes “these will be perfect” they said to themself. As y/n walked back to their snow man they stumbled on some rocks “ooo these will work great for eyes”
They said grabbing a handful.
“You are a cool looking snowman i hope daddy likes you too” they said.
y/n scanned the patch of snow thinking of what else to do “ooo snow angles” they thought diving into the snow. y/n layed on their back and waved their arms and leg up and down as if they were doing jumping jacks but laying down
y/n got up from their spot to admire it for a few seconds they dived back a few steps away back into the cold fluffy snow. This time they sat up shivering a bit rubbing their mittens together as some wind started to blow.
They stood up and started to build another snow man just as y/n started the base Joe came out with his shovel
“Hey sweetie you’ve been out here a while sure you're not getting cold?” Joe asked.
“Nah i want to make another snow man then go inside” y/n replied as the rolled the snow ball.
“Well this snow wont shovel itself after i'm done this ill get started on lunch and we will head out” Joe said
y/n continued with the snow man getting colder and colder as they kept rolling the snow balls and as wind blew here and there.
“Sure your not getting cold? Joe asked
“No” they answered “i'm almost done ill be in soon” they said shivering as they waddled over to the bushes for more sticks.
Joe headed back in after a few moments observing his slightly shaking child, then headed back in to make lunch.
When y/n snapped off the sticks their teeth started chattering by the time the second snow man was done the wind picked up and their face started to burn from the cold.
y/n let out a sigh and headed inside kicking the snow off their winter boots.
As they got inside they peeled off all their snow gear and rubbed their hands together, kicked their boots to the side and dropped themselves onto the couch.
Then Joe popped in the room “Did you have fun-” “oh you're freezing” he said rushing to grab a warm blanket and hot chocolate.
He wrapped the fluffy blanket around y/n and gave them the warm mug “you should have came inside a lot sooner when you started getting cold” Joe said
“But i wasn't done with my other snowman” y/n replied
“Snowmen can wait if you get cold you have to warm up a little bit or you just be too cold to play” he stated
As they warmed up a bit with their hot chocolate
“ok lets eat then get you over to josh’s ill pick you up at 6”
The two headed over to the kitchen for lunch before heading back into the snow.
