Snow Day

Summary:

"Oh, Margaret, it's beautiful!" Sia said in wonder. "I've never seen real snow before!"

Margaret's eyes widened. "What? You've never seen snow?"

Sia shook her head. "Not once. It never got cold enough where I used to live, not with such a high concentration of firestone keeping everywhere warm. And I've just managed to be away every time it's snowed here."

Margaret took her wife back to the bed and set her down, before curling up beside her. "Well, we mustn't waste another moment, then! Why don't you get your coat and we'll go outside?"

Notes:

For minvia13 on Tumblr! Thank you so much for the idea! I hope you enjoy our sapphics being gay and adorable (also a tiny bit of angst because of course there is, it's me we're talking about)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"Sia, come look!" Margaret cried out from beside the window. Sia, who was only awake in that her eyes were closed, was less than inclined to get out of the warm bed.

"Can't it wait, love? It's cold!" Sia whined. Margaret walked over to the bed, rolling her eyes. In one swift motion, she had ripped the duvet off of Sia, and now had the other woman in her arms. Sia let out a small yelp as she was picked up, tucking her face into Margaret's chest to better protect herself from the cold of the room. Margaret always did run warm, and her body heat radiated out of her.

"Nope!" Margaret smiled, carrying her wife over to the window. Sia's eyes widened as she took in the scene: Every surface of the capital had been covered in a thick blanket of snow. It was still falling too, coating those walking through it with a thin dusting of white.

Sia was about to leap up, wanting to get out in the snow more than anything. But her heart sank as she remembered her duties. "Oh, Margaret, I'd love to, but I have so much to do today. Between all the meetings, and my training, I—"

"But it's a snow day. All the meetings will be cancelled. And as for training, I wouldn't want you out there in the cold like this in just your armour. Haven't you had snow days before?"

Snow days? The concept was foreign to Sia. All she could recall of the winter months in the Clans was endless training in the cold mountains. Trying desperately to Move something so she could finally go home. Little sparks of Radiance being the only thing that kept her warm as she attempted to see what horrors awaited them all in the future.

"Not really. We worked in all temperatures." Sia said carefully, trying not to worry Margaret.

Naturally, Margaret was concerned anyway — Sia could see it on her face as clear as day — but she let it be for now. They would definitely be having a conversation about that later, though, Sia was sure of it.

"Well, we definitely don't do that here. Now come on, get your coat on!" Margaret said, getting up to move to the coat rack, before tossing the lump of fabric onto Sia. Sia giggled, pulling her arms through the sleeves and following Margaret outside.

Margaret's hand was warm in Sia's as they strolled through the gardens. Ipomoea flowers disappeared in the thick blankets of snow. "Oh, Margaret, it's so pretty." Sia smiled, leaning against her lover's side.

Margaret grinned. "Not at pretty as you, my love." Sia rolled her eyes, but a blush bloomed on her cheeks. They came to stop under a tree — a holly with deep green leaves. Margaret turned to face Sia, and took her hands.

"I can't believe it's been almost six years since you arrived." Margaret mused quietly. "Gods, I don't know what I would've done without you. Everything that happened after that night, I… you held us all together."

Sia shrugged bashfully. "You would've managed, I'm sure. But I'm glad you didn't have to."

"So am I."

Margaret leaned in, gently guiding Sia to stand against the thick tree trunk. Her eyes flickered down to Sia's lips. "How's your first snow day, love?"

Sia breathing hitched as Margaret placed a hand at the base of Sia's neck. "Pretty good." She breathed. "But I get the feeling it's about to get better."

"Your powers of Perception are truly unmatched." Margaret teased.

"Come here, you." Sia giggled, pulling Margaret in for a kiss.
