Chapter 1
Jamie has had better weeks than this. When Brianne had asked for his help in rescuing that
Stark girl, he didn’t hesitate for a moment. But after he was brought to Lady Stone heart, and
forced to betray his family things were not looking up. However his new traveling
companion was a familiar yet incredibly pist off. Everyone called him kingslayer, they
laughed behind his back, they sneered at him as he walked by, everyone save for her. Nevs
was in service to Prince Rhaegar when they first met. He was a young squire, barely fifteen
and completely alone in the capital. His sister was at casterly rock along with his father and
brother. Nevs had taken him under her wing, showing him how to not only survive the vipers,
but also the mad king.
Once when a poor coal boy was about to be severely beaten, she shoved a pie in his face. At
first he was mad as the seven hells, then she put her arm around him.
“ sorry about that your grace. The poor boy looked like he was about to faint, and since we
can’t have our newest kings guard pass out on us. Figured I ought to feed him.”
The whole court exploded in laughter and the boy was quickly removed from the throne
room.
Later while she was cleaning him up, ser Arthur Dayne had commended him for willingly
humiliating himself to save the poor boy.
When he had slewed the mad king, the only thing she had to say was how he should have
done it sooner. That was the thing about Never not once did she have a call him Kingslayer
nor his brother the imp,she simply called them by their names and proper titles.
So now to have her looking at him the same way the rest of the world did it actually hurt.
What had he done that angered her so, that caused her to seek out the brotherhood. Although
she saved him from the noose it was only so he would get them inside of the twins.
She hadn’t said a word to him, she said that he was incapable of changing, and that he was a
coldhearted monster. That along with so many other insults might have actually saved his
life. As they did allow her to present some random letters she was carrying around with her.
He didn’t know what was in them, but whatever it was diverted their anger towards none
other than lady Spicer and her daughter. He shuddered to think of what sort of cruel fate
awaited them.
A fortnight later, they were headed out for the twins, he had been allowed to bathe and
change his clothes. Still she said nothing to him, only glared or refused to look at him
entirely.
The wheelhouse they were riding in was adorned with Lannister colors and the men who
traveled with them were wearing the same armor as his men. So it was safe to assume that
Lord Blackwood and Lord Bracken, we’re no longer going to give him hostages.
“A trebuchet Jamie, a fucking trebuchet? What is wrong with you? I mean, I know you have
shit for honor, but that was low even for you. I mean why bother killing the mad king when
you were just going to act like him. And then you supported what those pigs did to that poor
boy and his mother.” Never finally spat out at him.
His blood ran cold, no one else but Lord Edmure was supposed to hear those words.
“ Well go on say something. Tell me I’m mad. Tell me I’m crazy. Give me one good reason
why, you would allow this. Oh, I know the reason it’s your sister isn’t it? It’s always your
sister. You pushed a 10-year-old boy out of window for her. You were going to cut off a little
girl’s hand for her. Is there no line you won’t cross for her?”
“ And what would you have done in my place? Unlike you, I don’t have the freedom to just
do whatever I want. I have a family name to live up to, but I mean how could you
understand? You’re a bastard.” He fired back.
“ Stop making excuses, stop running back to the people that kill any ounce of good in you
and decide for your fucking self what you want, for once in your life.”
“Look out that window and tell me that this right. That these people deserve to starve, to be
raped and slaughtered. Don’t give me your excuses. Don’t give me your fancy words. Just tell
me. “
Jamie said nothing.
“ What would you have me do?”
“Fix it.”
“How?”
“ By showing me that there is still a good man in there don’t tell me show me.” She pleaded.
“And how am I supposed to do that? By condemning innocent people to be hanged for crime
they didn’t commit.”
“Jeyne westerling didn’t know about the moon tea, she had nothing to do with her mother’s
plot.”
Never looked taken aback.
“They’re dead aren’t they.”
From the look on Nevers face, Jamie had his answer.
She knocked on the roof of the wheelhouse, so it came to a halt.
The door was then opened by one of the men who stole Lannister uniforms. “Garret, give me
your arm.” The young lad moved his right upper arm closer to Never. That’s when Jamie saw
a silver ribbon tied around his forearm.
Never quickly untied it and dismissed the lad.
Leaning forward she tied the ribbon around his arm.
“ once we get inside, I want you to find Roslin and get out.” She ordered.
Before he could ask any questions the wheelhouse started to move.
“You asked how you can be better this is how.”
Jamie nodded and relaxed back into his seat.
