In and Out the Office (A Huamn AU One-Shot)

Summary:

Pomni is crushing on her boss even though he is very handsome, rich, and likeable while she is the opposite all the way through and she is so ashamed of it.
But when Caine comes to her door in worry, it turns into a heart to heart that brings comfort.

While this is a one off, never know I could always expand or make it's own if wanted. But if I do that I'll probs rewrite later. :)

Notes:

I like @doncdesole on tumblrs human version of Caine, I think it's pretty good for like pure natural human.
So it's kind of the bases I think for pure human Caine but in my head I'd change a bit so;

Has more to his parted moustache and it curls up at the outward ends, also has a squared goatee alongside it.
More greys in his hair, especially the sides, he's not old, it's just genetics! (and stress lol)
And of course for this he wears just a rly nice expensive business suit then a ringmaster suit.

I've seen a lot of people draw Pomni with short straight hair similar to her avatar but of course just human and where I sit as well.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

A rather short woman was in the work lounge trying to grab her instant coffee, it wasn't even on the top shelf but still it escaped her grasp. Pomni sighed, about to give up and grab a chair when her chatter box of a boss had quietly come up behind her, “Need some help there?” Caine reached up to grab the coffee for her, having part of his body pressing to Pomni's while doing so, making the assistant flush while she waited. He moved slightly to hand her the coffee with an ever so charming smile, “Good morning dear! Glad to see you're here bright and early.” Caine hummed as he leaned to the counter to keep Pomni company, “Any reason why you are an hour early?”

Pomni glanced at Caine while making her drink, “Oh you know! Dedicated to the job and all!” She waved her stir spoon around lightly with a shrug before better looking at Caine who had a playful smirk with a raised eyebrow. Pomni instantly broke, “Alright fine, public transit is SOOOO much more manageable at this hour.” She whined as she turned slightly to lean against the counter and mirror Caine, “I can actually sit down on the way to work. If I go later I get crammed between everyone else and it's very uncomfortable.” Pomni shivered before playfully pointing her spoon at Caine, “And not everyone gets the luxury of having a car. Though why are you here so early if you have one?”

Caine chuckled at his assistant, “I always come early to prep the office for the day?” He leaned over as if to whisper with his hand hiding to them to seem all personal but still talked normally, it was only them in the office anyway, “Don't tell anyone though or they might try to ask for more hours and I don't have to pay me, just them.”

Pomni couldn't help but laugh at Caine's comical reactions which seemed to make him beam, “I won't Caine. I'm not clocked in yet so don't worry about needing to pay me either. I'm just having breakfast here.” She giggled before taking a sip of her drink but only moments after having to not sputter it out from Caine's reply.

“I'd be fine paying a bit extra if it's just you.” Caine smiled sweetly to Pomni which started to make her cheeks flush.

“Hey- No that is not fair for the others." Pomni puffed her cheeks out and kept her cup up to her lips to try and hide her face, “So don't even think about it!” She could not meet Caine's intense beautiful mismatched eyes staring her down.

“Fine, for now I fold.” Caine shrugged before looking back to the cabinet curiously, “Though my real question is how did you get your coffee so high up before if you can't reach it now?”

Which made Pomni groan, “Oh I didn't, I know it was Jax, that jerk.” She whined, “And he is tall enough to put it all the way at the top but is rubbing it in my face by putting my coffee on the middle shelf!”

Caine couldn't help but snicker, “I mean...”

“Shut it!” Pomni pointed her spoon at Caine, “I don't care how funny it is. I'm not that short!” Pomni puffed her cheeks out once more.

Caine rolled his eyes in a way to avoid her gaze while shrugging, “Well- As the previous shortest member of this trope. I hate to be the one to say this.” He said in a teasing manner, “But-” Which made Pomni put her spoon on Caine's lips that also touched his mustache, “Keep your mouth shut.” Pomni said in a huff.

Caine looked surprised but then smirked before opening his mouth which made Pomni's spoon go in before he closed it again with a chuckle, leaning towards her and losing her grip on the spoon. Pomni visibly tensed up and only blushed more as she looked away, “Caine.” She whined, pushing his face away, “Don't be a jerk as well.” Which only got another chuckle out of Caine. He wanted to say more but his phone rang which he instantly answered while popping the spoon out his mouth, his face neutral as he went into business mode. Pomni eyed him curiously and when his eyes met hers it made him break for a moment with a soft smile before he stood up right and walked past Pomni, putting the spoon back in her coffee while doing so and heading off for his office. Pomni watched her boss go out of view and rolled her eyes before realizing where he left that spoon that was just in his mouth, making her sputter as her face heated up again. She slowly took the spoon out and held it to her lips embarrassed before popping it in her mouth. Disgusting.

Pomni was the latest new hire for C&A, a duo branched company that was split between the C and A but functions technically together even if their office locations were in different parts of the city. The A branch run by the co-founder Abel, was a large building that covered making electronic wares for the entertainment industry and making publicity for it. While the C side of the company, which Caine ran, was the heart of the business but kept out of sight with a rented office space. This was where the ideas and programming started, all of the devices that eventually were shown to the world were meticulously designed in this office. So why were the two apart? Pomni had asked the same question upon hire to which Caine had no problem answering, saying it was for the privacy and comfort of making such important work without the pressure from the main building. There was a lot more creative freedom in this office which helped make a thriving and solid business that worked for Caine, Abel, and the company as a whole. Pomni felt over time there was more under the surface but as of now she had no clue what. She was just happy to be working here at all. She spent months pinching pennies after her previous and long working company had to file bankruptcy. It was bittersweet but they were very stubborn and old fashioned in a fast paced world that they could not keep up with. And to make it worse, so many settled businesses didn't need a new assistant or couldn't pay for her experience. So Pomni struggled far too long without a job until by luck an old work friend told her of this position. And somehow she was picked from the many candidates, which she was grateful for. Still Pomni wished she lived closer, the commute was shit. But it was all worth it, the woman knew she shouldn't have but there was a crush she had started to develop while working here. And of fucking course it had to be on her own boss. The man's shoes were worth more than her entire apartment. But god was he so charming and fun to talk to though she didn't fathom why he wasted any time back on her, Pomni sighed, she knew he would never really try to date her. There wasn't even a company policy against dating or the sorts, in fact they could care less as long as it did not affect the workplace. But Pomni knew she was too poor to ever get the attention of a man like that. Even if this option was there which was fantastic. Pomni had a suspicion this was because of the senior program Kinger and his absent wife Queenie (as the office called them) who helped started the company and started dating after. She was out for awhile now because of a sudden health crisis. But Pomni heard she was getting better and planned to come back soon. Pomni could not wait to meet her. Speaking of Kinger, Pomni nearly jumped out her skin when she realized he was standing next to her, having actually screamed, “Oh god! Hi!”

Kinger jumped with a scream as well only to nervously laugh as he rubbed his neck. His thick glasses making his eyes look comically big, “Oh hello Pomni, sorry to spook you. I just got in and was coming for some coffee. How are you this morning?” He looked so tired, though admittedly he always did.

“Oh hey Kinger, I'm fine.” Pomni laughed off her nerves and gave the man a warm smile, “You are here early.”

“Am I?” Kinger looked curiously at the clock, “I thought I was here at a relatively good time?” Which made Pomni look at the clock to see she had been standing there lost in her own head for a while. Not even realizing her cup of coffee was about done and her breakfast burrito was already gone. She grumbled and rubbed at her face, “Augh, right.” She mumbled before looking at Kinger, “It's too early.” the two laughed in agreement. Soon after the rest of the office poured in and work began. It was a typical hectic time with prototypes either going fantastic or just breaking apart. Ideas denied or approved with strict deadlines and meetings all over. Pomni felt like she sent way too many emails to feel sane and more like a robot. She grumbled as the office emptied for the end of the shift, most people never stayed late. But she needed to finish a proposed schedule for Caine and also book business trips for him as well. So she did not even realize the time or the sun setting as she typed away with complete focus on her screen. There was a sudden gentle tap on her shoulder that made her jump slightly to meet that very boss's eyes looking curiously at her, “Pomni, you know you can go home now. Right?”

“Oh huh? Shoot!” Pomni whined, “I'm so sorry. I thought I'd be done quicker but you're right! Let me save all this and close down.” Pomni was doing just that but needed to make notes for herself for tomorrow, “Sorry Caine, I won't make a habit of it.” Her brows furrowed.

Caine smiled sweetly to her, something Pomni could not see, as he leaned to sit partially on her desk and bring a finger up to poke between her frustrated brows, making Pomni look to Ciane with surprise and her cheeks lightly blush. Caine seemed amused as he said, “I am very honored you are willing to work so much for the company and myself. Thank you. I knew I did a good job hiring you.” He hummed to her which made Pomni's face flush more as she looked back to her computer, mumbling a thank you.

“Do you need help with anything to finish up?” Caine leaned towards her while glancing at her monitor.

“Oh, actually, so I can make a note for tomorrow. What kind of room should I book for you again? For the partnership meeting next month in Tokyo.” She typed away at her notes.

“I don't care for anything too fancy, just a decent space with room to work for us as needed. And make sure you can get a booking for our rooms to be next to one another. If that is too much trouble because of the holiday season we rent a two bedroom place instead to keep work quick and easy. They have plenty of those around Tokyo, the price doesn't matter.” Caine pondered, then looked to Pomni concerned, “You look upset, is something wrong?”

Pomni's face said it all, her shocked and worried look was intense, “Wait, I'm joining you for these meetings?”

“Well of course, it's why we requested you get a passport.” Caine looked amused, “You are my assistant after all. We will be going everywhere together.” He chimed in a matter of fact manner.

Pomni put her hands on her lap together nervously as she rubbed at her fingers, “Caine, I need to be honest with you, I can't afford such trips. At least not for a while.” Pomni couldn't meet Caine's eyes, ashamed.

“Oh!” Caine cleared his throat, downing his playful tone to a softer and understanding one, “I understand you worries. But you do know business trips are paid in full and covered by the company?”

Pomni finally looked back at Caine, wanting to panic but his gentle smile made her stop in her tracks, “Dear, unless you want to splurge during down times you don't need to spend a dime. I promise! And if something comes up needing extra or there is a problem then I cover it. I understand you came from a rather older fashioned position so you may not be used to that. I should have taken proper time to talk this over with you. Sorry Pomni.”

“Oh, oh gosh.” Pomni looked away flustered, “Of course, duh. That is a huge relief, thank you!” She took a proper breath, not even realizing she was holding for so long, “I'll, tomorrow, find the best place to book for us then.”

“Will you be ready with such a short notice?” Caine's voice still had concern.

“Oh it will be fine, I'll manage, don't worry. Mostly just need to take a crash course on Japanese customs so I don't make a fool of you.” She mumbled which got a laugh out of Caine.

He put a hand on her shoulder, moving his thumbs lightly to comfort her, “If you'd like we can take some time together so I can teach you. I've been there many times and am confident I can help.”

Pomni felt nervous but knew she couldn't afford a tutor of sorts, had no friends for it, and free youtube wasn't always the best, but she'd double up with all she had either way, “If it's not too much trouble I'd be grateful for the help.”

“Perfect. Now wrap up so we can go!” Caine stood up right and adjusted his tie. Pomni shut down her computer and gathered her things then two started for the elevator, Caine asking, “Do you want a ride home? I don't mind giving you a lift?” Both going into the elevator. Pomni tensed up but tried to wave off her worries, “Thank you but it's a long drive, I'll be fine with the metro. I'd also like to stop somewhere for dinner.”

“Well I don't mind a nice drive and bite but I won't push it for now. Though the offer stands anytime.” He hummed, the two walking to the lobby where they would need to part ways. Pomni had her hands holding her bag as she looked to Caine, her brain trying to push herself to head home but her body lingered, “Thank you, I'll keep the offer in mind for a rainy day. Public transit is just nasty during rain.” She laughed lightly only to stop in flush at Caine's sly response.

“Then I hope it rains soon.” He smirked, only to look at his phone from many sudden notifications, which made him frown before looking at Pomni once more with a bittersweet smile, “I hope you have a wonderful evening Pomni.”

Pomni looked concerned but let it be, giving a small smile back, “Thanks Caine, you too.” Both heading off.

Since it was late, Pomni had missed the evening rush thankfully. She was glad she could eat out for today, not needing to make a mess she did not want to clean at home but it made her train ride go even later. Pomni I was used to late nights though it was always a mixed bag between the kinds of people you'd get on late public transit. Pomni was checking socials on her phone, bored out her mind when something just felt off to her. She looked over her phone and around to the other few people in the cabin. Most were doing the same as her, minding their own business. But a guy across from Pomni was staring her down in a rather gross manner while biting his lip. It felt inappropriate and invasive which made her squirm uncomfortably. He easily noticed her attention on him and got up with a stagger, Oh great a drunk guy, Pomni grimaced. He waltzed on over in his drunken glory and plopped right down next to Pomni while saying with a slurry voice, “Hey there beautiful. Do you ride this train often?” He was far too close with his body making Pomni try to scoot away but she was already against the bar that ended the bench, “Yes? Because it's a commute?” Pomni said in an uninterested tone. The man did not take a hint and leaned into her while chuckling, “Well I think I'd remember someone looking so good in those tights. You want to go get a drink?”

Pomni shook her head annoyed, “I think you already had more than enough for us both. Now please back off, I don't like you this close.”

She saw how the drunk's face twisted in anger from her words as he stood up and looked over her darkly, making Pomni almost curl up scared in her seat, “You think you're better than me don't you? Can tell me what to do!” He had a maddening look in his eyes at her, “You fucking whore!” He suddenly slapped Pomni hard across the face, causing an instant sting which made her eyes water. Pomni's eyes snapped back to the man ready to defend herself when he yanked her phone and slammed it to the ground while stomping on it repeatedly and yelling profanities at the top of his lungs. That was when a good samaritan came over and pulled the angry drunk away to restrain him.

Two others came over, one to help keep the drunk restrained while the other asked Pomni if she was okay. Pomni reached down and picked up her shattered cell off the ground with a pained expression while assuring the on lockers she was fine. When they made it to the next stop the police were already waiting to make an arrest. After some talking Pomni was able to leave, this stop was thankfully her stop and the walk home was very quiet. Once she finally made it to her one room apartment that was finally her safe space. She broke down, putting her things on the counter and just sobbing into her hands, “What do I do!? I can't afford a new phone.” She didn't care about being slapped or yelled at, she needed that phone for so much in her life. Next to her was some mail she had opened that was debt bills and payment plans. Pomni just sobbed long into the night, not even sure when she fell asleep in her bed.

Morning rolled around quickly, but with her phone smashed, Pomni had no alarm to wake up and she needed that to keep her life and schedule in check. So when her door bell went off enough times for her to half asleep crawl out of bed and go check. She snapped to reality when her boss was standing there with concern written all over his face, “Pomni, you-” He stopped talking while actually looking her over, her hair a mess in only a shirt that thankfully was plenty big so it covered what was needed. But he looked so upset, seeing her puffy eyes and the very visible bruise on her face, his tone stern, “Pomni what happened?” But he was not angry, he slowly and gently reached out and touched her cheek. Pomni half flinched as she started to tear up, trying to find her words but just stuttered out, “Am I fired?” Clear panic in her voice and trying not to hyperventilate. Caine seemed to register the severity of the situation and gently pushed her into the apartment while closing the door behind them to escape possible prying eyes, “No dear, I can see you have a clear reason for not showing up this morning. Please, talk with me.”

Pomni opened her mouth and tried to talk, only to start full on sobbing as she brought her hands up to grab at his wrist, pushing her face into his hand cupping her face and could only muster out I'm sorry. Caine brought his other hand to fully cup her face before quietly saying to her, “Take your time, I'm not going anywhere. Talk when you are ready."

It was the right words and actions to break down her walls as she moved forward and grabbed Caine into a hug, holding him tight like she would fall apart if she didn't. Caine recuperated the sentiment and held her tight in return, they ended up leaning against her front door in the moment of comfort. Pomni's sobs were quiet and muffled into his chest but were hard enough to make her tremble. Caine brushed his fingers through her bed head and had his face against her hair as well. He loved the smell of her shampoo. He only reassured Pomni he was here with small sweet words to help her calm down. Her sobbing turned to sniffles before she finally was able to stop crying. Her grip did not move away from his coat, her eyes closed as she felt so warm and safe. It had been so long since she was held like this, it felt so good. But she knew she shouldn't be doing this, not with her boss of all people. Pomni sighed, “I'm sorry Caine, this was very inappropriate of me.” She pulled back some to look up at Caine, his bittersweet expression clear on his face as he smiled to her, “It's alright Pomni. It's only us here, so please.” He brought his hand back to her bruised cheek and lightly touched it, “Tell me what happened. Are you okay?”

Pomni's lip curled up, the touch stinged but she didn't pull away from his warm fingers, “I was harassed by a drunk guy on the train. I was a smartass at him which made the guy go ballistic, he slapped me and broke my phone.” Pomni moved her hands, one ended up on Caine's chest and pushed some while the other wiped at her eyes. She sighed, “My phone is my only alarm, I thought by now my body's internal clock would wake me up. I was very wrong.”

Caine moved his hand to hold hers on his chest while giving a light chuckle, “I think even if you could have made it to work, you look so exhausted I would have sent you right back home.” Pomni could feel Caine's sudden tremble which made her look back to him to see just how upset he was, “I shouldn't be so mad but I want to find this guy and beat the living shit out of him.” Which left Pomni with surprise.

Caine never cussed, at least not out loud, out of all her time around him Caine only cursed once under his breath from stubbing his knee hard into a coffee table. And even then only Pomni heard it so no one ever believed her about it. To hear it so clearly now felt like a whiplash, and opened her eyes more to him just how upset he was, “Caine...” She brought her hand up to his face, holding his side and gave a weak smile while running circles lightly into his skin with her thumb, "I promise I'm fine, I'm more upset about my broken phone and being late for work then the idiot on the train.” It was her turn to comfort him now, “I just- I know I am late but could I go buy an alarm clock before going to work.” She was nervous.

Caine couldn't help but laugh, “Fine but on one condition.” He leaned back to her, pulling Pomni back into a hug that felt sweetly desperate, “You actually take today off and let me take you to and from work now.”

Pomni tensed up and wiggled in his arms, “Caine- no! That is too much effort and I really can't afford to pay you for gas.”

Caine was slow to respond, “Pomni... I would not make you pay. And do you not get enough from us? I thought we paid quite well.” He said with concern, Pomni was able to feel his head turn to try and look around her apartment. This made her instantly become flushed as she moved against Caine to where she was using her hands to cover his curious eyes, “Don't you dare look around my place!” She huffed. But Caine retaliated by wiggling his face against her hands, making his facial hair tickle her skin and want to pull away so he could look more. Pomni huffed and grabbed his face instead so Caine would look at her, clear embarrassment on her face with her furrowed brows as she pleaded, “Caine, please...”

Caine couldn't help but chuckle, “That is what I like about you. No dull moments with such a cute face.”

Which made Pomni confused, “What do you mean by that?” Still pouting.

“Have you not noticed I've been trying to get with you since you started?” He raised a brow while amused before panicking, “Well I mean not right at the start, not why I hired you! The feelings just came quickly after.” He cleared his throat and looked to the side bashful. Pomni slowly blinked and looked at Caine in disbelief only to mumble out, “What?”

Caine looked back to her, his expression felt oddly hungry but sweet, “I've fallen for you, and I wouldn't do this for others so easily. Mostly I'd just wait until they come in the next day after a failed call or email and see what happens. But I-” He sighed ashamed and frustrated, “When I couldn't get ahold of you I felt panicked. I just needed to make sure you were okay or I'd lose my mind.” He moved his hand over hers still against his face, then moved it to his lips and kissed, “I shouldn't be here but I couldn't stop myself. I actually should be apologizing for being inappropriate to you as your boss.”

Pomni stood there stunned, flustered, and unsure what to say. She opened her mouth, closed it, then finally spoke, “Really?”

He kissed her hand again, closing his eyes to try and hide his embarrassment, “Truly.”

Pomni felt her whole body warm, quietly asking, “Then, could I kiss you?”

Caine's eyes opened back to look at hers, his arm wrapped around her well to keep her close as he whispered, “Please, kiss me.” Letting her hand go to free his lips. Pomni looked back to Caine longingly while her thumb moved along his lips and mustache, loving the swirl at the tips. Pomni then leaned on her tip toes as she moved forward to Caine, he returned to meet her as their lips locked. Caine's hands were around her now and holding Pomni tight while one of her hands stayed on Caine's chest and her arm went around his shoulder so she could move her hand through his hair. Their kiss was soft but quickly deepened as they explored one another's mouths, even with the excited moment their bodies melted into one another in a deep relaxed state. Pomni had to free herself after the deep long kisses with a pop from between their lips to take a breath. Caine didn't stop as he kissed her cheek, then down to her jaw before kissing along Pomni's neck. Pomni let out a small gasp as she gripped into his hair. Caine's mustache tickled her skin as he said, “I'm so glad you are okay.” He trembled some more, "I didn't know what to do if something had happened to you. You've made my days so much better since you came into my life"

Pomni hid her face into the side of his head, "You act like I am some kind of angel. Caine I am not that amazing." She laughed bitterly, her confidence falling. Caine moved back to look at her sternly and earnest, "Does that matter? To me you make me smile, happy to go to work again. And to me that is more than amazing." He sighed, "I hope one day you can see it."

"I- I'm sorry. Thank you." Pomni turned her head, moving her hand off his chest to cover her mouth as her entire face was red and the blush was creeping down her neck, "No one has ever told me things like this before. So it's quite shocking."

Caine looked at her in awe with his mismatched eyes, taking in the entire moment like if he blinked it was vanish. He smiled so big his moustache curled more. Leaning forward he kissed near her temple and chuckled, "Then I need to make up for it by giving you more and more compliments so you can feel appreciated fully." He hummed. Pomni moved her arm so both were wrapped around his neck and pouted once more, "You are quite the romantic kind, aren't you?"

That got a loud laugh out of Caine as he nuzzled against her, "Unfortunately I am!"

"Fortunate for me then." Pomni giggled before slowly pulling away, "So I get a day off then, what about you? Do you need to head back to work?"

Caine twirled them so he could have his back facing into the apartment before backing up, "Nope, I gave myself the day off too. Perks of running the place you know." He snickered. Pomni went forward with him before trying to pull Caine back, which made him ask in the kindest voice he could muster, "Are you embarrassed to have me in your apartment? Too quick?" Trying not to offend.

Pomni sighed, gave up and looked down in almost a whine, "Yes and no. I wouldn't care if you were in my apartment if I had a better place!" She pet her hand to her forehead as she closed her eyes in frustration, "Caine I'm broke, I live in a tiny place and have nothing because it's all I can afford." She sighed, "Honestly if I'd known my phone would have gotten smashed I would not have even eaten out." Her frustration rose again.

Now that Pomni wasn't stopping him, Caine properly looked around at the one room apartment, well mostly one room, it obviously had a door to the bath, but this was it. Her kitchen was just a small counter space with a sink, mini fridge, two burner stove top and no oven or microwave. Then some small cabinet space. She had no tables or chairs, the only other furniture was a cheap plastic closet and her single bead. She had an almost full laundry hamper which made it clear she did her laundry in a shared space. Caine looked sadden, "May I ask what caused this? Your qualifications give you such a high pay but you live worse than anyone in the office." Caine then panicked at his own words, "I mean- I'm not trying to insult- I just-" He fumbled over his words.

Pomni shook her head with a sigh, leading him to the bed so they could sit down while she explained, "I have a lot of debt in my name, but not all of it is from me." Pomni put her hands in her lap and fiddled her fingers as she talked nervously, "I- If I just had my college tuition to pay off it wouldn't be so bad. But a few years back my mom died from a stroke." She tapped her thumbs together, "And because of state laws her debts became my debts, though really they were always mine to begin with." She sighed and finally looked to Caine who had concerned but understanding eyes on her. But Pomni could not keep her eyes on him, looking down to the floor to continue, "When I was a kid, I got very very sick, it almost killed me and left my body in poor condition. At the time treatment for it was more experimental and privately funded to be done, so insurances didn't cover it due to the risks around it. My mom didn't want me to end up disabled all my life so she took loans to cover the costs. The surgery worked and I was able to go back to a normal life." Pomni rubbed at her neck, "The loans did not come without interest and mom worked her ass off raising me and trying to keep the home warm. My dad had left the picture long ago so there was no help from him. But everything was fine, up until she died." Pomni's head hung low, "Then I lost my job because the company went bankrupt and I couldn't find another for months." Pomni tapped her thumbs again once more, "I had to sell my moms house to cover living expenses and keep up with the payments. Thankfully because it's not debt and not loans there are no more interest fees but it's a lot. But because it came from my mom it thankfully doesn't affect my credit score." Pomni put her head in her hands, "That's-" She gritted her teeth, having a hard time to say it, "That's why even though I wanted to date you as well I kept holding myself back. I don't even see how I could be with someone like you when my life is such a mess!" She huffed.

Things were quiet for a moment, then shuffling of clothing which made Pomni look at him. Caine was taking off his jacket that he put on the floor, the kicked his shoes lazily aside with it, he then took his vest and threw it as well before laying back on the best with his hands behind his head and getting comfy, "I could absolutely care less if you think because of your situation you shouldn't be with me." He beamed proudly, "I chose you because of how you are, an honest and hardworking person with a wonderful sense of humor that makes me smile, laugh, and feel great getting out of bed each morning. What more reason is there for us not to try and make this work out?"

Pomni was flabbergasted by the entire spectacle, then crawled some to him and put her hands on his chest, grabbing his shirt and shaking Caine some, "That is such a sappy and stupid reason! Caine is reasonable!"

Caine curled up his lip with a huff as he pouted, "I am being completely reasonable! More then you." He winked at Pomni with a chuckle that grew into a fit of laughter. Pomni's lips trembled before she started to laugh with him, both curling up as they laughed hard and each time they tried to stop they only made each other laugh more until both were crying from the laughing. Once they could settle down, Pomni was laying next to Caine as they both looked to the ceiling. Pomni said in a hushed voice, as if she was absolutely scared of anyone but Caine hearing her words, ''Do you really mean it? That you don't care... You still want to be with me after hearing all that?"

Caine turned on his side, propped his head into his head to look down at her with a gentle smirk, "Yes. I'd maybe feel different if you told me you had a gambling addiction and owed money to the Chinese mafia or something." Caine chuckled, "I don't think I can survive the mafia Pomni."

Pomni grinned and giggled, "Glad I can't afford to gamble then!" Her eyes then looked big to Caine, "If I could ask with you here... Do you know how to take apart a smashed phone? I wanted to, but was scared, I really need my sim card if it survived." Which gave Caine a spark of delight as he sat up, "I believe I've worked on enough electronics to tackle a smash phone! Show me the goods and let's get to work my adorable assistant!"

"You really like pet names, don't you?" Pomni snickered as she sat up and pushed Caine's arm playfully.

Caine hummed back, "Yes and I will have plenty to call you."

"Sound's nice, I look forward to it." Pomni smiled big.

Notes:

This is kinda fun, if I was to ever expand on it though (if wanted) I'd write a newer one into a whole long slow burn fic.

Later tho. I really need to work on my long AU I got going and stop writing one offs LOL.
