Work Text:

Nemesor Amarkhun honestly admitted that his small family of him and Zaa was a mess. Both spouses woke up quite late even by the standards of the nobility, and in addition to that their awakening was terribly slow, especially if they did not have any important things scheduled. It could take about three hours just to get out of bed, wash up, and get dressed for breakfast.

At first, Zaa calmly argued with him. As a chronomancer with the title “of tomorrow” he knew the subtleties of time and the nuances of its specification like no one else. Cryptek talked about the etymology of the word “breakfast”, referring to the cycle of day change, explained the framework of the beginning of daylight hours and ended his small lecture with an analysis of the circadian rhythms of the necrontyr. It was incredibly interesting to listen to all this, which Amarkhun did, watching his spouse with a loving sleepy gaze during his monologue. But nemesor had his own simple vision.

When you wake up - then it's morning. Therefore, any first meal after waking up is counted as breakfast.

This rule made his life much easier, work wise. Being on the same planet for a long time, and even more so at home, was a rare luxury. Spending his days in space, where time turned from something tangible into a vague concept, Amarkhun lost the sense of day and night. This had a bad effect on his sleep upon returning home, and he was grateful to his spouse for really trying to restore his sleep during their first couple years of fresh marriage. But neither a strict bedtime schedule, nor stimulating tinctures with vitamins, nor numerous gadgets for waking up helped him.

After those numerous unsuccessful attempts to fix Amarkhun’s sleep, Zaa approached the problem differently: completely giving up and succumbing to the influence of his husband. He simply adopted Amarkhun’s sleep schedule and eliminated everything in their house that could wake them up. The household staff received new instructions about acceptable noise levels, time and location of important household chore procedures was also changed so that even the occasional noise from any work would not reach their bedroom until a certain hour.

And Amarkhun, who slept well at home every time he returned there, was immensely grateful to Zaa for those changes.

In the atmosphere of domestic comfort nemesor enjoyed watching his cryptek wake up and begin his late morning. Waking up quietly, Zaa first checked to see if Amarkhun was asleep. If he was (or was successfully faking it, just opening his eyes and watching the chronomancer while he was not looking at him) Zaa stayed in bed for a while longer, spending time on his phone. Amarkhun knew that Zaa was looking for a podcast or audiobook to listen to during the morning routine. As soon as the interesting material was found, Zaa put on his headphones and carefully left the warm bed. He spent five minutes washing his face, another twenty minutes in the morning shower, after which he was dressing up and applying his makeup if he was feeling like it.

Amarkhun loved watching such an ordinary morning routine of his husband. It somehow enhanced his sense of comfort in his own home, and also was amusing. Zaa, like all crypteks, excelled at pokerfacing and not giving away even the slightest emotion during the court meetings and work related affairs. But at home he was unconsciously relaxed, and while listening to the podcast of his choice, chronomancer reacted to what he was listening to with a variety of facial expressions: he frowned, arched one eyebrow in surprise, sometimes smiled maliciously, shook his head in disappointment or disbelief, and very rarely quietly exhaled short profanities under his breath.

Nemesor adored seeing his spouse so alive and vivid; a pity that in his admiration he often stared too intensely and at some point Zaa, feeling the gaze on himself, always noticed that his spouse had already woken up. The podcast then was turned off, and the cryptek redirected all his attention to his husband, trying to pull him out of the bed. Not always successfully, really.

Especially if Amarkhun was in a romantic mood after a good restoring sleep.
