Sometimes Renjun couldn't understand how on earth could he, one person, one omega, ever be enough for his three alphas.
And it wasn't like Renjun just wasn't confident enough; He was very much aware how much his presence tended to affect the people around him – especially alphas – but it didn't stop the seeds of doubt from sometimes growing deeper roots inside his mind.
On some days he just couldn't help but ask himself 'why?'. How did he ever get so lucky to receive so much love from the three people he loved to bits in return? How did his beyond normal habit of taking care of his friends slowly turn into so much more between them? How could all of their feelings mutually change this much over time?
Was it normal? Falling in love with your friends like this? As in multiple of them? And to have his feelings returned even if it meant they had to share? Because if he’d been one of them, he wouldn't have spared himself a second glance. Not like this at least.
And even if he knew from the bottom of his heart that they loved him unconditionally, it didn't stop him from wondering why this could be possible even in his wildest dreams.
Sure, he knew he was pretty. His face was round and small, and he paid special attention to how he dressed. He was shorter than most alphas which wasn’t that surprising considering he was a male omega, and that only made him cuter to them.
But he was... He was Renjun. An omega since birth. Just this guy with a slightly sweeter scent everyone seemed to love because of their instincts and biology. Because he was an omega. There was no other explanation. He wasn’t particularly interesting nor did he have a good temper. There really was nothing special to him.
And then there were his boyfriends — all taller, sporty, muscular, bright, kind, lovely. They could easily have anyone they wanted, someone of their own to love and dote on. They didn’t need to share someone that definitely wasn’t worth any of them. Yet somehow... Somehow they'd chosen him.
How? Why? What did they even see in him that he didn't? Three big alphas with tons of achievements. All of them well-liked and amazing. All of them more wonderful than he could ever express.
And they liked him.
Him.
Sometimes it still felt like a dream, and he was afraid that the next time he woke up, he’d find himself in an empty, cold bed with no alpha in sight, exactly how he'd predicted all his life to go.
But instead there he was, sniffing their used, dirty clothes in secret since it was his turn to do laundry. God, they had laundry turns. That's how far they'd come. And if that wasn't big enough, the three bite marks around his neck should be.
They were mated.
They had chosen him.
Permanently.
For the rest of their lives.
Him.
The door of their rented apartment opening startled him out of his thoughts. With his heart beating out of his chest, Renjun turned to see the time on the microwave and realized he'd been stuck in his head for two hours already. Which, by the usual standard, was not that great.
Luckily he didn't get to dwell on it for too long, the comforting scents of sweet chai, fresh citrus and lush pine with the undertones of fire getting nearer.
"Renjun, we're home!"
"Finally," he could hear Jaemin grumble, his social battery undoubtedly all spent.
Donghyuck found him first, his nose unbelievably sharp. He came to him from behind, backhugging him and kissing his cheek with a loud smack, practically purring in his ear. Renjun closed his eyes, taking a deep breath of cinnamon and spice, relaxing in his boyfriend's arms.
"Thank you for the pudding, Injunnie. It was a nice little gift. Cheered me up a ton!"
"He gave you pudding?" Jeno asked, putting down the groceries they'd stopped by for after classes.
"Hid it in my bag! Imagine my surprise."
"Aw, that was sweet."
"Shfweet," Jaemin agreed, mouth full of the apple he'd swiped from the bags. Donghyuck gave him an unimpressed look, and he shrugged, sheepish.
"Please chew before you open your mouth."
"Yeah. Nobody ever wants to see what's in your mouth."
"Well, I mean, unless it's our– oof! Jeno! I'm just telling the truth!" Donghyuck let go of the omega, starting to chase around the oldest alpha while Jeno just laughed, trying to defend himself.
Renjun wanted to join the fun, to make another lewd comment that would get them even more boisterous, but he could only sit and stare at the three people he loved the most in the world, wondering how they'd ever made it this far.
Jaemin must've noticed him spacing out while throwing away the stem of his apple, his face etched with worry, "Are you okay?"
Renjun startled and turned to him. He opened his mouth, ready to say he was fine, but no sound came out. Cheeks flushing, he dropped his gaze, hands nervously picking on the loose strand of his oversized sweater that smelled awfully much like Jaemin’s woodsy scent.
"Uh– yeah. Yeah. I'm..." Renjun swallowed, unable to say the word. He'd never been good at lying, and it wasn't like his alphas hadn't already picked up on his tells.
"Baby?"
"Injunnie?"
His awkwardness must've alerted the other two alphas, making the mood plummet because of their worry. He lifted his head, trying to play it off, but his eyes were distant and faraway, smile a little crooked.
"It's nothing. I'm... I'm just being dumb."
"Hey, none of that," Donghyuck immediately retorted, tone serious. He was always quick to change his attitude to fit the mood. The other alphas agreed immediately, not letting him squirm his way out of it. "What's wrong?"
But Renjun could only hug himself, pointedly looking to the side so he wouldn't have to meet their concerned gazes. "It's just... I don't know. I'm just... feeling a little insecure maybe. A little... small." Vulnerable.
And Renjun was usually not like this unless he needed some kind of comfort to battle the mean thoughts inside his head that sometimes gained more power than necessary. His alphas exchanged looks, sad smiles on their faces.
"Renjun, come here," Jeno beckoned softly, his arms already opened for him when the omega looked up, looking dejected.
Renjun didn't even try to resist, falling straight into his arms. Jeno hugged him tight, one of his hands rubbing slow circles on his lower back. Renjun’s body instantly sagged in his arms. Still a bit restless, he nosed along his neck, waiting till Jeno took the hint and scented him, drenching him with the scent of comforting pine.
Scenting was the best thing ever — it was like a magic switch that turned his brain off, all the useless silly thoughts giving him a break. As long as he basked in the warm embrace and overflowing scents of his mates, he felt like he could take on the world. Like he belonged.
He could feel the wave of relief wash over him once the alpha picked up on his needs, calming his stormy mind in a matter of seconds, making him sigh.
"Better?" Jeno huffed with a laugh, hands coming up to ruffle his hair. Renjun hummed contently, letting the alpha support his whole body while he went boneless in the comfort of alpha’s arms.
Jeno couldn’t help but smile, thinking Renjun was so cute, melting against him like butter. He was his baby. Their baby. Which, well, meant there wasn’t a long time for him to bask in this moment by himself.
"I know how to one-up you," Jaemin said somewhere behind him, his voice sounding a little muffled to Renjun's ears.
That was all the warning the omega got before Jaemin was breathing against his skin, tongue darting out to lick around the mating marks by his neck. Renjun shuddered, whining quietly, but he intuitively tilted his head to the side, submitting to his alpha and giving him more room to work with.
He could feel Jaemin grin against his neck before his teeth ghosted over the bite. Then his teeth sank in. Renjun jolted, but the little warning growl kept him in place. It was better not to move or he could get hurt with Jaemin's teeth so deep in his neck.
"Me too! Me too!" Donghyuck enthusiastically exclaimed the moment Jaemin let go, and soon Renjun could feel his neck tilted a little to make space for him on the other side of his neck. And then there was the bite again — twice as intoxicating now.
Renjun's head was in the clouds, immediately rendered completely boneless in Jeno's arms, absolutely blissed out. The alphas could only coo at him as he struggled to keep his head up before Jeno lifted him in his arms and sat them by the kitchen table.
Renjun couldn’t make out a thing in his surroundings anymore, resting his chin against Jeno's chest, blearily blinking up to him.
The alpha chuckled, leaning in to leave feather light kisses all over his face before finally capturing his lips. Renjun was a little too dazed to respond properly, but Jeno didn't seem to mind. It was honestly so cute the way Renjun responded to everything they did.
The way he could barely hold himself up, so lost in his mates' affection and attention that he'd slipped somewhere very far in his head, trusting them enough to completely submit himself in their care like that. And that was sexy as hell.
Jeno licked over the fresh bites, adding his own bite over the claims with little effort. At this point, Renjun was like jelly in his arms, completely out of it, only seconds away from drifting off.
"Ah, why are you so cute," he mumbled with a smile, kissing his nose again and again.
"The cutest," Jaemin agreed.
“I think my heart is about to burst,” Donghyuck complained, dramatically clutching his chest and looking pained. It was clear they were all too irreversibly damaged by the cuteness of their omega every time he became even a little needy.
And Renjun, head so far up in the clouds, feeling so safe and loved, couldn’t even find it in himself to question their love for him.
