Chapter Text
Life is unfair, and Severus Snape, born a Prince, knew it well. The first time was when he saw his mother's life vanish before his eyes at the hands of the man to whom she had been bound by fate. But Severus was different: he wouldn't have met the same fate, or at least that's what he would have wanted. Perhaps life had granted him some joy: for Severus, that joy had red hair and the name of a flower, Lily Evans. The most optimistic and kind girl he had ever met. She treated him like someone normal. But happiness didn't last forever. It was one autumn day that Snape's reality was shattered by something banal: a letter. But not just any boring letter to his father. Hogwarts. Him. Magic. This was for him, it was his. That letter was like a ticket to an earthly paradise, or so it seemed. But unfortunately, paradise doesn't exist. Everything seemed normal, he had Lily, a safe place, far from his father, or so it seemed. But peace is always compromised. To Severus, that threat wore glasses, considered a star, a person who had everything life could offer: James Potter. A rich, pathetic little boy, convinced he could do whatever he wanted, as if he had the right, as if the world belonged to him.
The first time he saw him was on the train to Hogwarts: it was crowded, and he and his group of lackeys had joined the compartiment. Everything was fine.. If only there hadn't been James's predatory gaze, scanning his sweet Lily from head to toe... That was the beginning of the apocalypse in Severus's life.
Who knows, maybe if things had gone differently, he would still be with Lily. Everything happened far too quickly. Judged by the cover: too fragile, weak, with a sickly air. Add a pinch of jealousy and being sorted into a house considered the wrong one, and the pretext to ruin his life was born.
It began with small, harmless pranks that turned into mental and physical torture--above all, mental. It was like a brainwashing that changed him over time. One day he couldn't take it anymore: he tried to rebel, but it only led to isolation.
"Mudblood" was the drop that made Lily's glass overflow, She. The cause of all of this. The object of desire, their Helen of Troy, Severus's living Paradise. She abandoned him too, just like his mother. And without her protection, the situation deteriorated.
Too late to apologize--he had lost her forever.
