Oikawa Tooru has lived before he thinks. But it’s different enough now that it doesn’t matter.

It’s a beautiful spring day in Miyagi with bright green leaves on the trees and a blue sky with puffy white clouds. The park is crowded with kids on the play equipment, and a three year old, brown haired boy hangs hangs upside down from the biggest tree he can climb. He has two sticks swinging in the air as he fights imaginary enemies. His mom is on the phone with a laptop in front of her.
Tooru sees Iwa and his mom walking to the park from his vantage point, throws his sticks down the tree and scurries down it as fast as he can. He picks up the sticks and runs to Iwa’s side. “Iwa!” He gives him one stick and runs away. Iwa follows, and Tooru goes under the slide to hide them. Tooru whispers to him, “We’re ninja trying to stop a monster coming out the moon.”
Iwa nods and points at the plastic rock wall. “The monster is brainwashing the kids! We have to stop him before he puts the whole world under his spell.”
The two boys run to the rock wall and Tooru pushes one of the boys off and into the wood chips. “You guys are under a spell! Help us kill the monster!” He runs away and leaves the boy to pick himself up. The kids join their mission and Oikawa tells both them and Iwa, “Look! The monster has raised her underlings from the dead! We have to stop them now!” The swarm of kids rush the castle where Tooru’s sister and her friends sit and talk like the boring teenagers they are.
“Tooru! You and me face the main monster!” Iwa yells as they meet each other in the chaos.
“I’ll see you on the other side!” Tooru raises his sword and runs into battle.
Together the two sprint up the double yellow slide. They are the first kids on the castle and they confront Tooru’s sister. She’s sitting on the very top level with her gang of monsters. “Tooru, leave me alone.”
“Stay back!” Tooru yells at the boy he pushed off the rock wall earlier. The boy was trying to follow them to the top. “The shadow monsters are attacking you guys! Me and Iwa got the monster!” The kids start kicking and punching the air and flail around the playground screaming.
“You won’t escape.” Iwa tells his sister. “We’re alien fighting ninjas.”
He and Iwa make eye contact then start pummeling his sister. Suddenly he’s lifted into the air by a boy— “Huh?”— and held in a bear hug that restrains his movement, and Iwa is left to fight alone. But, his sister grabs Iwa and holds him upside down.
“AHH! Kaguya has me!” The monster changes her hold on Iwa so he’s right side up and also restrained.
“The ten-tails has me!” Tooru screams and Iwa screams again in response. His sisters’ friends just laugh— “Your brother’s cute!” —and continue whispering about some thing or another.
“Sorry, let’s not hit people though,” apologizes the teenage boy holding Tooru.
“Thanks, you can hand him over and I’ll bring them to Mom.”
“Nooo!” Tears come to Tooru’s eyes.
“Don’t!” Iwa starts crying as well.
Iwa is shifted to only one arm but his wiggles aren’t freeing him. Tooru is handed over and screams bloody murder.
“Shut up, Tooru. Iwa-chan I’m going to drop you off the side if you don’t stop moving.”
The boys look at each other and Iwa acts like he’s biting the air. Tooru stops screaming long enough to bite his sister’s arm and Iwa does the same to the other. “Ow! Shit!” He and Iwa are free and sprint away laughing.
They stop only running when they get to a dumpster and hide inside. Tooru looks at Iwa. “You could teleport before right?” He remembers him. Before was sad though and makes him want to cry so he doesn’t think about it too often.
“Yeah, and you had dogs.”
“We should stay friends forever this time.”
They do. Soon they see a volleyball though, and their paths for this life are decided.
