Chapter Text

“As I’m sure you’re aware, villains have been running rampant in the streets. There’s been an increase in crime and the distribution of the trigger drug. The public’s faith in heroes will start dwindling if we don’t shut this down before it gets too severe.”

Aizawa nonchalantly tossed the file he was holding on the table, along with all the other ones. “Why don’t you send your favourite hero All Might? I’m sure it would be good publicity.”

The board on the hero commission shoots him dirty looks, they were always quick to defend the Symbol of Peace. All Might always made sure that their pockets were stuffed with cash since through his work they could argue for more government funding. Heroes like Eraserhead who stuck to the shadows never gave them any good stories for the press. Those who didn’t influence the public often got these errands, doing all the messy work since they couldn’t complain to anyone anyway. In reality Aizawa had brought this on himself.

“All Might is busy keeping the public safe, as our Number One hero he doesn’t have time for drug rings. All you do is drain government funding Eraserhead, and we see minimal results. If you can’t handle this then we might have to cut your funding.”

Aizawa sighs, of course they were going to threaten him with cutting his checks. They knew that was the only way to get to him. He’d have to accept that shitty teaching job with those snot-nosed brats, spend his life having a meaningless existence making sure the next generation of heroes wasn’t as shit as his was.

“Fine, give me the briefing and make it short, I’d like to take a nap before my patrols tonight.”

“We have reason to believe that there is a mid-level villain acting as a dealer and informant for this drug. Possibly even the manufacturer herself.” A series of images comes on screen of villain incidents, what looks to be the same woman in all of them. “All we know is that this villain keeps popping up wherever an incident of trigger happens. Whatever that means, is what we want you to find out.”

“So what, you want me to just haul her in? I’m sure there are better heroes for that.”

“True. But that’s now what we want. One villain or dealer off the streets won’t stop the problem. Being a lesser known hero, it’s in our best interest to have you befriend the villain.”

Aizawa gives them a look. “Befriend? I thought that was against the hero code.”

“Will you just listen? Befriend and join the ring, find the leader so we can shut it down at the source.”

“Undercover, I suppose it checks out. The commission has always been sneaky and underhanded.”

“Insults don’t endear you to the board Eraserhead.”

“A shame.” He stands, picking up his goggles. “I was always so worried about your opinions of me.”

Aizawa scanned the streets, it was incredibly inconvenient that he was out this late at night, he’d rather be in his apartment bed rotting and mindlessly scrolling the internet. However villainy waited for no man, he’d made a commitment and was going to keep to it. Maybe doing a case every once in a while would keep the Hero Commission off his back for a few more months so he could keep getting the checks without the work.

The streets of Japan were far less openly sketchy, with the rise of All Might, most common thugs stayed at home and the more dangerous villains knew how to hide. Which made his job a lot harder, he had to carefully analyze all faces for the culprit, he wanted this job over and done with as soon as possible.

As he was ready to doze off Aizawa’s attention snapped to a face in the crowd. He pulled up his phone to double check the photo and confirm the identity. A match.

He smiled, now for the fun part. Let the game begin.
