Chapter Text
‘’I don’t know how we’re supposed to do this, Powder,’’ Vi sighed as she hunched over the Piltover map on the table. Her bowl of cereal was forgotten on the left side of the table an hour ago, half full. It was rare for Vi not to finish her food; it was probably because she was too busy chewing on her bottom lip instead.
‘’Look, we don’t have to do anything right now. We just need to brainstorm a bit more and go over the plan,’’ Powder said as she took a bite of her sandwich.
‘’It’s easy for you to say that - I’ll be alone on this mission. If something goes wrong, I’ll be the one paying the price.’’
‘’Oh, come on now, don’t be so dramatic! You’ll only enter alone. Mylo and I will be outside with our big guns, waiting for you to come out.’’
‘’I know, it’s just… I have a bad feeling about this. About her,’’ Vi frowned. ‘’They say she’s one of the most dangerous monsters out there, and nobody has ever walked out of that mansion alive.’’
‘’Vi, these stories are total bullshit, trust me. They said the same things about the last two vampires we hunted down, but I’m pretty sure you’re standing right in front of me, without a single scratch.’’
‘’Maybe I’m just being paranoid,’’ Vi pinched the bridge of her nose between her thumb and forefinger. ‘’I know the hip injury shouldn’t bother me anymore, but I still have nightmares about that place, Powder. I remember how helpless I felt trying to crawl out of that hellhole.’’
Powder’s eyes softened ‘’I know, Vi. But you need to loosen up a bit - your hip hasn’t bothered you for a few months now, so don’t worry. Even the doc said you’re ready to go.’’ She ruffled Vi’s hair slightly and plopped on the couch next to Vi.
‘’You know I hate it when you do that,’’ Vi murmured as she tried to get her hair back in its old position.
‘’Hey, did you speak to Mylo already?’’ Powder asked suddenly, completely dismissing her sister’s whining.
‘’No, I haven’t seen him since last night. Why?’’
‘’Oh, okay. Because I saw him this morning - he was going to the library to do some research on the whole Kiramman clan. Or at least what’s left of it, but-’’
Powder was cut off by the door opening with a bang.
‘’I’m a genius!’’ Mylo yelled. ‘’A total genius!’’
Vi snorted, never taking her eyes off the map on the table.
‘’Hey, genius - your shirt has been stained with tomato sauce since lunch,’’ she said, still not looking up.
‘’I’m in such a good mood that nothing you say can offend me, my dear Violet,’’ Mylo took a seat on the armchair and folded his arms behind his head.
‘’My dear Violet? What’s this, the eighteenth century?’’ Powder snickered.
‘’Do you guys want to hear what I found, or do you want to keep acting like children?’’
‘’Sure sure, go ahead, man.’’ Vi was already staring at the map again, eyebrows knit together.
‘’First of all, she’s not as old as we thought. I don’t have an exact number, but she’s definitely under two centuries.’’
‘’Ah, yes, practically a teenager then,’’ Vi snickered humorlessly.
‘’I mean,’’ Mylo paused ‘’We’re all a bit over a century as well, so we aren’t teenagers either,’’ he laughed, but his smile quickly faltered as he took a closer look at Vi. ‘’What’s wrong with you, Vi? I haven’t seen you so tense since the hip incident.’’
‘’Nothing, I just couldn’t sleep last night. I’m exhausted, and I have a headache.’’ Vi sighed again and got up. She walked over to the freezer and opened it, turning her back to the others.
Powder and Mylo exchanged looks. This whole thing was very unlike Vi. She was usually ready to enter a fight without even trying to work out a plan. Why was she suddenly so… whatever that was.
She took a bag of ice out of the freezer and put it on the side of her head.
‘’I’ll be fine, guys, I guess I’m just a bit overwhelmed,’’ she said and sat back down on the couch.
‘’Just turn in early tonight, and you’ll be fine,’’ Mylo said calmly, although he couldn’t fully wipe the slightly worried look on his face.
‘’Yeah, you’re probably right.’’
NEXT DAY
‘’Pow, make sure to get the AMR-2, I think it’s our best bet for that one, given the location you’ll be at,’’ Vi handed her the sniper after she was done inspecting it.
‘’From where I’ll be, I’ll have a very good look at the entire room you guys will be in, so the moment that bloodsucker tries anything, bam! Heads will be flying!’’ Powder made a swooshing noise with her mouth, pretending to fire around with the weapon.
‘’I hope it won’t be my head that will be flying,’’ Vi huffed a laugh.
‘’Haha, very funny,’’ Powder rolled her eyes. ‘’By the way, did you go through the whole plan with Mylo already?’’
‘’No, I only know about your location. But I’m assuming he’ll be on the opposite end, having a view of the same room as you, just a different angle.’’
‘’Yep, that’s pretty much the plan,’’ Powder was fumbling with the weapon in her hands. ‘’We’ll all be together until we enter the premises. Then we’ll split up.’’
‘’By the way, I look so good in that plumber uniform, you should see my biceps in it,’’ Vi flexed said biceps to illustrate her point.
Powder shot her a disgusted look. ‘’Stop that.’’
‘’What, it’s true! I’m telling you, once she lets me inside, I’ll have her dead in five seconds,’’ Vi pretended to shoot just like Powder did a few minutes ago.
‘’Careful though, we need her to lead you to the main room first. Otherwise, we won’t have any visibility, and we won’t be able to help you,’’ Powder shot her a glare.
‘’Yeah, yeah, I know.’’ Vi put the weapon back in the case.
It seems like she’d gained back some of her confidence, which was a pleasant surprise. Powder didn’t want her to jump into the whole mission all sad and mopey - this would be a recipe for disaster.
She knew her sister was worried about her hip injury showing up at the wrong time; that would put everyone involved in danger. When the incident happened, Vi was unable to move, barely crawling, trying to make her way out of the burning building. Powder and Mylo didn’t know she was injured inside when they set the house on fire. They thought the vampire was alone in there.
But when they started looking for Vi, they quickly realized she wasn’t outside at all. Mylo broke one of the larger windows and threw himself into the fire, yelling her name. By the time he reached her, she was almost passed out. They made it out of the building just a few seconds before the flames exploded even higher into the sky, shattering completely whatever was left of that house.
As they later found out, a big piece of the ceiling had fallen, right on top of Vi’s leg. She’d struggled with it for a while, managing to remove it only after the flames had already spread. She’d tried to call them over the walkie-talkie to tell them to ditch her, but it had been buried somewhere beneath the stones. Not that they would’ve left her anyway.
Vi couldn’t walk for a month after the incident. Even the doctors thought she’d never walk again.
Thankfully, fast-forward a few months and a thousand stretches later, the leg started getting better until it eventually healed.
But given everything, nobody blamed Vi for being scared. She didn’t want to put anyone at risk because of her ‘lousy leg,’ as she often referred to it.
‘’I probably missed half of the stuff you guys talked about yesterday,’’ Vi began ‘’Tell me the details about the Kiramman vampire again.’’
‘’Definitely under two centuries old, around 6 feet tall, dark hair - the Kirammans have always been filthy rich, but since most of them are already dead, all the money went to Caitlyn Kiramman - their only living descendant.’’
‘’And she was the one who killed all those people in the woods?’’
‘’Yeah, we’re pretty sure it was her. Also, I don’t know if these are just rumors, but people say that she kills her victims like a wild animal - all torn apart and left in the woods.’’
Vi shivered slightly. ‘’Okay, okay, thanks for giving me the plot for tonight’s nightmare,’’ she laughed.
‘’It’ll be okay, these are probably just tales.’’ Powder turned around and walked towards the door. ‘’I’m going to Mylo. I wanna talk to him about the new bullets he got.’’
‘’Yep, I’ll be there in a second,’’ Vi said without looking up. They still had a few hours left until the mission, but her heart was already hammering in her chest.
