22/5: I have been trying to get through the ruins for 4 days now, and I might just be going mad.
Honestly, for almost 20 hours a day for 4 days straight I've been trying to find a safe way around the ruins without disturbing the piranhas and I think I have the solution. The ruins are too dangerous to navigate with the engines on my boat which are made to navigate the open ocean so they move too quickly to dodge between the narrow gaps of the ruin walls, so the obvious solution is to slow down my boat to be able to take the turns easier. Normally this would take a couple days on its own as would require me to switch out the engines for ones better made to take tight turns.
This is a problem for two reasons, it would take another 3 days at least to acquire new engines and swap them and I would have to go back to the main town to get them changed which means having to cross back to the ruins without having the right kind of engine for open ocean, Which is extremely dangerous because it could take too long to cross and I'd end up on the ocean at night. Both of those points mean that I have to stay in the area and just use what I have.
The piranhas are pretty big but they don't damage my boat they just slow it down once they catch up to it, although I would rather not have them attached to my boat for to long in case they call for backup, The piranhas cannot go near the heat-vents without getting boiled, so they can be shaken off there. From what little scouting I did I saw that there is a heat-vent in the same part of the ruin as the shrine, so I have to make a plan. I would enter the ruins like normal except this time I would make sure to grab the attention of the piranhas, not so many that I would not be able to move but just enough so that my boat is slow enough to navigate to the shrine and then lose them at the heat-vent there.
I was telling the merchant about my plan and she seemed a bit concerned. Maybe I should go over this plan with more than 3 hours of sleep? I would but this really needs to get done now, I've already wasted 4 days worth of work and I need the pocket watch.
I'll be leaving as soon as it hits 5 am.
Hopefully this plan works. If not I might need to resort to other methods to get that watch.
