Work Text:
“What kind of detective am I that I can’t find one kidnapped Rechtsmediziner???” Thiel grumbled. He was pacing Boerne’s office, scouring it for the third time in two days for any overlooked clues.
“You’ve got your best people on the case, and everyone on the force is keeping an eye peeled,” said Frau Haller gently. “What you need is some sleep, so you can come at this with a fresh mind.”
Thiel sighed. She was right, of course. He had tried to sleep, but the moment he lay down, his mind began busily conjuring horrific scenarios of what might be happening to Boerne, keeping him wretchedly awake.
His arm prickled suddenly. It was a strange sensation; he rolled up his sleeve and looked down at his arm.
“What is it?” asked Frau Haller.
Thiel stared at the marks slowly spreading from his elbow toward his wrist. “The damnedest thing,” he said slowly. “It looks like someone’s writing down an address!”
He held his arm out for her to see. She immediately grabbed a pen and notepad and began copying down the writing. “What … why?” Thiel asked, baffled.
“That’s the Professor’s handwriting,” she said excitedly. “I bet he overheard the kidnappers say where they are, and he’s writing it down so he can remember it.”
“But why am I seeing it here?” he asked as the marks gradually came to a stop and then began to fade.
Frau Haller handed him the notepad. “Later,” she said. “Right now you need to call Nadeshda and give her that address.”
Galvanized by the urgency in her voice, he pulled out his phone and told Nadeshda they’d gotten a tip. He read her the address. “Send the nearest team.”
“On it, boss,” she said briskly and hung up.
Thiel turned toward Haller. “Now what’s—“ He stopped speaking and stared at the pen she was holding out to him. She shook it a little at him and he reached out and took it.
“Write, ‘we’re on our way’ on your arm,” she said. “Hurry! Before he rolls his sleeve back down.”
Thiel paused, the pen held over his arm. “What is this about, Frau Haller?” he asked.
She smiled softly. “It means you two are soulmates,” she said. “Now write!”
“Halt dich,” Thiel wrote. Hold on. “I’m coming.”
