Work Text:
Glimmering stars, splatted upon a black canvas of a sky, so many tiny, shining stars, you’ll lose your head trying to count them all. So many more stars that one could ever imagine, twinkling softly in their perches infinite miles away, hanging above two figures lying in a giant golden field.
The air is still; besides the minuscule movements of the stars following their tracks in the sky, there’s not even a breeze, no sounds, no chirping of crickets or croaking of frogs, just a suffocating stillness blanketing the world.
It’s calm.
Chosen likes it that way.
It still faintly smells of smoke. It always does around them. Each day, filled with rampant flames and scorching heat, served as a reminder to what they were, to the power harnessed for destruction. Anything to get away from those echoing, haunting, tortured screams…
Chosen feels a pair of arms wrap around his waist. Dark’s head is tucked between the other’s head and shoulder, clearly making a conscious effort not to put too much weight onto Chosen’s delicate wings. He’s looking up at the stars too, silent. It’s rather out of character for him.
Smiling, Chosen runs a hand through his messy hair. He doesn’t mind the smell of smoke when it’s from Dark. It’s less like burning city and more like bonfire. He plants a kiss on Dark’s head, and the other snuggles closer in response.
Moments like these, slow and quiet, are ones Chosen would kill for (maybe he already has killed for them. That’s a grim thought). And to spend them with Dark? There’s nothing he could want more.
Dark…
It’s been about...a year and a half? Two years? Since he first met the red-head. And...cursors, Chosen doesn’t know what he’d do with his life without him. He’d probably still be...locked up, and…
He shudders, and feels Dark’s embrace get tighter. Chosen doesn’t quiet understand how the other always knows when something’s wrong. He can be so cold and ruthless at times, and yet…
Here he is, so peacefully lying with Chosen.
The red-head’s eyes turn to the other, garnet slits in a sea of void. They’re so, so pretty, unfathomably so. Chosen could get lost in them and he doesn’t think he’d want to be found.
There’s a hand on the side of his head, gently caressing his cheek, and Dark moves himself closer, breaths ghosting Chosen’s face.
They lay there for a while, staring.
And Dark shifts his hand to the nape of Chosen’s neck and closes the gap.
Their lips touch only for a brief moment, but it’s enough to make Chosen yearn for more as soon as Dark pulled away.
The older turns on his side, letting one wing drape over them both, the other splayed behind him, wrapping himself around the redhead. Chosen kisses him first this time, longer and deeper, and when they pull away for air, Dark’s face is bright pink. Most certainly it’s not just his.
Dark nuzzles his face back between his partner’s chest and head, perhaps to hide his flushed face. Chosen can’t help but smile, cuddling closer, fitting together like puzzle pieces. He lets his eyes close.
Dark was probably the best thing that ever happened to him.
“Love you, Cho.”
“Love you too.”
