Family

Summary:

The Smosh cast and their dreams for a family
or
Vignettes of past hopes

Notes:

Like every other story in this universe, anything mentioning anyone's family is completely false. They don't have the same names as they are not in any way based on the real family and their dynamics.

Ian has a lisp when he’s little and can’t say his ‘R’s, but for the sake of your brain, im gonna write it like normal, just imagine any ‘R’ is a ‘W’

Also, please God don't read this Smosh. This is purely poorly written fiction based on real people. Nothing I write is a fact, it's just based off their Internet personas

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The entire Smosh cast is together for a photo shoot.

It’s rare for all 15 of them to be together in one place.

Even when they try outside of work, someone is always busy with either work or their personal life.

And that’s fine!

People are busy, they all have so much going on in and out of their careers,

But when they’re all together, it’s easy to be grateful for the amazing family that they’ve created.

The family some of them dreamed of for years.

“Can you come help with your brother?” Shayne's mom calls out to him and he runs to her voice excitedly.

Despite being a lot older than him, one of Shayne's older brothers is a little, meaning sometimes he gets to be a big brother.

He skids to a stop in his older brother’s room, taking in his brother’s outfit in an attempt to figure out how old he is.

“What can I do?” he asks her, climbing onto the bed to be able to reach and hug his brother who's reaching for him excitedly.

His mom smiles at the two before answering, “I need to make dinner, I just need you to keep him company and play in the living room.” she explains, gesturing to the two boys to follow her.

Shayne hops off the bed, taking his brother's hand and leading him to the living room. “Whatcha wanna play?” he asks excitedly as the two sit on the floor, his mom heading to the kitchen.

“Cars.” he answers immediately and the two grab out some pull-back cars, racing them across the living room and attempting to have them jump random items in the room.

He always enjoys it when he gets to be a big brother.

His mom explained the differences between caregivers, littles, and neutrals to him when his brother first dropped.

And despite being way too young to know, he's pretty sure he's a caregiver, or at least he really wants to be one.

Getting to help his brother is one of his favorite things, even if it's with something he'd normally not want to do, like chores.

That night when he goes to bed he lies there and dreams about his future. And unlike most boys his age who dream of being a firefighter or an athlete, Shayne dreams of finding a little and having his own family.

“I want friends,” Ian grumbles behind Anthony as he edits a video, “No one little ‘round here.”

Anthony rolls his eyes as he continues to edit, not even bothering to turn around, “Eventually we'll get out of here and find you some friends.” he promises, checking the stabilization of the effect he added.

Ian pouts, pushing his train around the small train set Anthony had gotten him for Christmas. “Want friends now.” he whines petulantly, freezing when Anthony actually turns around.

“Sorry daddy.” He mumbles, looking up at him nervously, not wanting to be sent to the corner, but relaxing when Anthony picks him up instead of being upset.

“I know you're lonely,” Anthony says gently, brushing Ian's hair out of his eyes, “I promise once this is done we can play.”

The little nods in understanding as he's held in Anthony's lap, the man turning back around to focus on his computer again.

But instead of going back to silently editing, he tries his best to include Ian, talking about what he's doing and why as well as asking him for his opinion.

Ian participates happily, the edit taking a bit longer, but now that he's included he doesn't mind.

Anthony starts the upload and places Ian in front of his train set, sitting down across from him.

Excited to play with his little guy, but hoping someday Ian has more people to play with than just him.

Spencer sits alone on his couch playing his new video game his parents had gotten him, Super Mario Galaxy.

His parents know he has a preference for Nintendo games when he's little, so they tend to buy them for him in the hopes of making him happy.

They have a hard time understanding him with his older headspace as a little, still occasionally treating him like he's a little kid despite being around 12.

He's gotten to the point where he tries his best to only drop when his parents are gone, tired of being babied.

This leaves him to always be alone.

And while he doesn't mind it much, sometimes he wishes he had people that would treat him his age and play games with him.

Courtney has been having a harder time at home since her older sister went to college.

As the only caregiver Courtney knows, it leaves her with few options when regressed.

She's still not allowed downstairs when little, but someone will always make sure she gets food up there.

With her dad being a firefighter and her two little brothers busy with school and sports, Courtney spends a lot of her little time alone in her room.

Fortunately, over time she's managed to collect a few toys, but it's still difficult to be alone when you're as little as Courtney is.

Tonight both her brothers are at different practices and her dad is at work, leaving her alone with her mother. Thankfully, her mom had dropped dinner at her door, so she wasn't hungry, but she was lonely and bored.

As she lies alone in bed, she wishes she had friends around her that understand her and care about her.

People that saw little her as something more than the chore that she felt like.

Courtney slowly drifts off to sleep with that in mind, hoping to someday build a family of her own.

As Angela lies curled up on the bottom bunk in her dorm room, she can't decide if she'd rather be able to go home, or be alone like she is.

Despite her hope that her parents would change their mind, as the summer draws nearer her parents refuse to go back on their word, leaving Angela without a place to live over the summer break.

She's made some friends over the last year, but none close enough to stay with the whole summer. Meaning she'll need to couch surf on top of working and struggling to not regress.

It was one thing to drop in her dorm, closing the curtains around her part of the bed and trying her best to force herself to sleep. But dropping at essentially stranger's houses, absolutely not.

Her headache pounds against her skull and she bites down on her fist in an attempt to not drop.

There's at least two roommates here right now, and she can't risk it when she knows people are here.

Forcing herself to sit up, Angela grabs her laptop and opens it, deciding to try and find places to sleep for the coming months.

Because if she doesn't take care of herself, nobody will.

Amanda's moved to LA to follow her dreams, and she's lonely.

It's hard being so far from her family back on the east coast.

She's not even acting. Not really. She's doing some freelance stuff, but her main income is from bartending.

Which makes sense, she just got here. But it's hard to not wish she was already making a living doing what she loves.

Especially without her family around.

In an attempt to make herself less lonely, Amanda has started babysitting littles on the side, but instead of helping it's just created a new issue.

Now she wants a little of her own.

She's always wanted one, but now she really wants one.

But she doesn't have the time, space, or money to even think about something like that right now.

So Amanda keeps her head down and keeps bartending.

Auditioning as much as she can in the hopes of someday making it, and creating a family of her own.

Chanse was having a terrible day.

He yells angrily into a pillow, banging his fists against his bed.

Usually he regresses on a schedule, trying his best to balance college, work, and friends, but he couldn’t hold it back.

He’d gotten a call from the church he worksed at and they’d fired him.

For ‘his values not aligning with theirs’.

They were calling him gay, and he’s NOT gay.

He lets out a sob, clutching his stuffed turtle Leo to his chest.

Normally he’d call his family when he panic drops, but they can’t know about this. That leaves his friends at school, none of which he wants to see him like this.

With his roommate not being there, another caregiver, he decides to just keep to himself.

Nobody needs to know this happened, no one will understand.

Chanse closes his eyes tightly, tears streaming down his face as he prays.

Prays for forgiveness, for people he can trust, for people who will love him unconditionally, for forgiveness again.

He falls asleep slumped in his bed, still dressed from class, dreaming of who he hopes he can someday be.

Damien’s always had a surprisingly mixed relationship with being a caregiver.

He loves littles. They're some of the most pure and precious people, but they're also loud, chaotic, and messy.

As much as he'd love a little of his own, to get to nurture another human with all the love he has within him, he knows it'll overwhelm him.

And as he watches all the littles run around outside the ghost town at Summer Games, he’s reminded of that.

They’re all yelling and screaming at each other with excitement, shooting each other with water guns Ian had thought to bring as Shayne occasionally sprays them with the hose.

Some of the neutrals and caregivers are also playing in the water now that they’ve wrapped for the day, but Damien is just keeping an eye on everyone, always worrying about the ratio of littles to caregivers in the cast and crew.

“Dames?” Courtney asks shyly, startling a zoned out Damien.

He looks over and smiles at them. They’re wrapped in a towel, shivering slightly despite the extreme heat.

“What’s up Corgan?” he asks gently, surprised they’re going to him instead of someone like Shayne that they’ve known longer.

They nervously hold their arms out to him and he hums in understanding, lifting them into his lap. He shifts them to lay comfortably for both of them, smiling when they rest their head on his shoulder.

“Thanks.” they mumble, closing their eyes as he rubs their shoulder, “Cold.”

“I’ve got you.” he promises, watching them slowly fall asleep in his arms.

Shayne catches his attention and grins at him. Damien smiles back before turning his focus back to the little in his arms, tuning out the screaming ones around him.

Yeah, it would be pretty nice to have a little of his own someday.

Tommy loves his job.

He'd been hired to be a social editor for Smosh a little under two years ago, and he was really enjoying himself.

The company has slowly begun to utilize him on camera, recognizing his comedic timing both in the edit and in the action.

His favorite part of the job, besides getting to do what he loves for a living, was the people.

As he started to spend more time on camera, he also became closer to the cast, becoming close friends with everyone.

But the person he was closest with, was Courtney.

Not only were they one of his favorite people to hangout with at the office, he was one of their favorite caregivers to hangout with.

He will readily admit he's not amazing with babies, but Courtney is just old enough that he can usually cope and have a fun time.

“Tommy!” a small voice calls out from beside him, pulling him away from his work.

“Court!” he calls back, pulling his headphones out and pulling them into his lap, “Whatcha doing over here?”

They hum, doing their best to lie on top of him with their ear over his heart, despite the fact he's sitting up.

Tommy tries his best to hold them up, smiling at how ridiculous they're being before Courtney answers, finally comfortable in their position.

“Shay say nap, want nap hold, Shay on camera,” they explain, letting their eyes close.

He coos, pushing their hair back to be out of their face, “Shay’s busy so you came to me?” he asks in shock, beginning to rub their back.

Courtney nods slightly, grabbing a fist of his shirt as they slowly drift to sleep.

Tommy looks down at them lovingly as they fall asleep, completely in awe that a little chose him as their safe space.

He'd always thought that he'd be the type of caregiver that just helped his friends, but as he watches Courtney sleep against his chest, he isn't so sure anymore.

Arasha was hired in a whirlwind of other people.

Smosh hiring her, Angela, and Chanse within weeks of each other, before thrusting them all into as many videos as they could.

It was hard being the new girl. Despite joining at the same time as her, Chanse and Angela were already best friends, leaving Arasha as the only person not knowing anyone.

Add to that being the youngest member of the cast, sometimes Arasha felt like an outsider. And when she learned that she was also one of the only neutrals, the other three being part time, she felt even more alone.

Her saving grace was Courtney.

Courtney made her feel welcome. They almost immediately started looking out for her, inviting her to eat lunch with them, talking between shoots, all around trying to make sure she didn’t feel as left out as she would have.

It only takes a couple weeks for Courtney to drop for the first time in front of her, and she doesn’t know what to do.

She’d normally spend time with them between shoots, but she doesn’t want to intrude on their little time, even if she loves spending time with littles.

Thankfully, Courtney makes the decision for her, running over to her excitedly when they notice her.

“Rasha!” they call excitedly, “Still wanna hangout?” they ask hopefully, fidgeting with the action figure in their hands.

“And I get to play dolls? Definitely.” she confirms, smiling when Courtney grabs her hand and drags her to the little corner.

Shayne laughs when they get there before returning his attention to his laptop, “Be gentle,” he reminds the little, “Arasha’s not a caregiver.”

Courtney huffs, sitting on the floor in front of the doll house, “I careful.” they grumble as Arasha sits next to them, “Arasha be fine.”

“One hundred percent,” she says confidently, “I used to watch some older littles in college. I didn't care about age much, I just can't really lift anyone.” she explains.

They look at her in awe, “You used to babysit littles?” Courtney clarifies, “So cool.”

Arasha nods, smiling at them as they hand her a doll and begin to tell her the game she wants to play.

Out of the corner of her eye she sees Shayne watching them, winking when he notices her.

Maybe she fits in better than she thought.

It's Trevor's first official week as a Smosh cast member.

He's been in a lot of videos before, Mythical sharing custody of him in a way, but now he's officially a part of Smosh.

Something that is new for him is the possibility of being little.

When he was only dropping by, there was no reason for him to. He'd wait until he was home or back at Mythical where he knew Josh would be there for him.

But now that he'd be here more often, it was something to think about.

It's lunch and despite their bit of hating each other on camera, Shayne is one of the people he's closest to at Smosh and the man invites him to sit with him and little Courtney.

“Hi!” Courtney chirps as he sits at the table, “You little too, right?” they ask curiously.

Just as he hasn’t been little at Smosh, he’s never been there when anyone was dropped before, so this is new for him as well.

“Around five to seven,” he answers, taking a bite of his lunch.

Courtney grins excitedly, waving Ian over to sit with them, “Trevor our age!” they tell him excitedly, giggling when Ian reacts with an overexaggerated gasp.

“Has another five year old hit the Smoffice?” he jokes, earning him a groan from Shayne and laughter from Court and Trevor.

“Five to seven,” he says again, this time to Ian.

The man smiles, holding his hand out to him,

“Welcome to the little family.”

Keith, Noah, and Olivia watch from the side as the rest of the cast goof off in front of the camera for the photoshoot.

“They're all crazy.” Keith comments, watching Courtney attempt to scale Trevor like he's a tree.

“We're all crazy,” Noah corrects, handing his best friend a bottle of water. But the rest of whatever he was going to say is cut off by Olivia, not wanting to listen to the two debate.

“Family’s are always a little crazy, this one's just crazier than others.” she says matter of factly before being waved over by Courtney and walking away.

“We got pretty lucky.” Noah murmurs as he follows after her, leaving Keith to stand alone for a second.

“It wasn't luck,” he mumbles to himself as he starts to walk over to everyone, “It’s fate.”
