Work Text:
Just like any other ordinary day, Kenzaki wakes up to his cat's unnecessarily scary staring. The heart-shaped white patch of fur seems unusually close today, and the poor owner of the cat practically flies out of range, almost hitting his head on the wall.
"Uwei?! Stop scaring me every morning!!" Kenzaki sighs exasperately, a hand clutching at his chest for an extra dramatic flair. He gets up and pats down his bed head, walking towards the kitchen first thing.
It's a nice Sunday, Kenzaki thinks. He scoops the can of cat food into the creature's bowl, and puts a scoop of dry cat food in for good measure. His cat tends to be picky, for some reason. It's basically a miracle that the cat even eats in his house, even though he never actually sees it for himself.
After a whole myriad of busying for his most beloved cat-sama's breakfast, he finally heads to figure out his morning routine. By the time he got out, the cat is already done with everything, leaving the bowl basically empty. Kenzaki chuckles to himself fondly.
"Come on, you're going to eat me broke." He reaches out to pet the cat, giving little scritches on its head as he picks him up easily. "Tachibana-san wants to have lunch with me, are you coming?"
The cat curls into him comfortably, purring as it looks at Kenzaki with round pupils.
Kenzaki beams back a smile, and gets onto his couch to pass the time. Oh, his favourite streamer is live, he should probably head in the chat for a bit.
He got way too distracted. If it weren't for his cat that bapped him several times half an hour before, he probably would've missed the train and be late. Kenzaki holds the cat in his bag, standing in the crowded metro as he tries to recall what was on the menu of that restaurant.
The announcement to his stop rings and the cat seems to kick him from inside the bag, and Kenzaki snaps back awake to exit the train in a hurry.
He walks down the street, his cat lounging comfortably around his shoulder as pedestrians look at him with squeals and "awww". He's used to this whenever he brings it out for an outing, actually. Kenzaki just hums in satisfaction— everyone likes his cat. He's quite happy about it.
As he arrives at the restaurant (Tachibana-san had picked a pet-friendly one, thankfully), his senior waves at him with a smile.
"Kenzaki, here!" Tachibana-san motions at the empty seat in front of him.
"Tachibana-san! I brought him again!" Kenzaki grins, holding out his cat towards the other as he sat down.
"You always take Hajime everywhere with you, don't you?" Tachibana-san laughs, and takes out his phone. "You mind if I take some picture for Sayoko?"
The cat seems to be somewhat disgruntled at this, but Kenzaki of course agrees instantly. It took them maybe fifteen minutes of a photography session before they actually started ordering anything. As they wait for their food, they naturally started to have some chit chat.
"Tachibana-san must be doing really well in the research department, right? I heard from Mutsuki, you got a promotion! Congratulations!" He whispers mysteriously, teasing his senior.
"Not that much, really." The other makes an awkward chuckle, scratching the back of his head. "It feels like there's more on my desk now, but I guess it just comes with the higher position."
"Waaah… If I had to work that much, I'd probably would have been scolded for slacking already…" Kenzaki makes a (;′⌒`) face at the mention of more work, petting his cat absently. The kitty purrs in return, completely ignoring the current topic.
"You can definitely handle it, Kenzaki. Don't put down yourself so much." Tachibana-san leans back as a waiter walks over and sets down their order, Kenzaki immediately sipping on his lemon soda.
"Maybe!" He gets to digging in, earning an amused chuckle from his senior. His cat looks judgementally at him, before crawling onto his lap and curling up for a nap.
The rest of the meal passes by in chat about their friends and gossip, and maybe a bit of complaints about their work accompanied by more cat picture taking. He and Tachibana-san ended up splitting the bill, even though Kenzaki had originally insisted to pay it in full.
The two part their ways soon afterwards, and Kenzaki, with nothing else better to do, heads home. Yeah. Nothing else better to do. That feeling of wasting a day becomes so much more apparent as he arrives at his building.
Unlocking the door to his apartment and taking off his shoes, he ends up lying on his couch like some sort of couch potato. His cat hops onto the top of the cat tree, and Kenzaki makes a short laugh.
"You're finally using that?" It was expensive, too. He just turns to the side, and looks at the orange sunlight slipping through his window. The cat makes an unimpressed meow as a response.
"Aah. I have to go to work tomorrow…" He complains, lying on his side in his cozy bed. Admittedly, even though he doesn't like work, it feels like the only thing he can actually do nowadays aside from taking care of his cat.
The cat just baps him.
"AH— What was that for?! I was going to sleep, seriously!" He winces, and sighs. It's definitely not what the cat meant, but he's not a cat whisperer. So all he could do is just pretend he understand. He closes his eyes and tucks himself in.
A sudden warmth and fluffiness suddenly invades his personal space, completely taking up the entire area and forcing Kenzaki's arm over it.
He doesn't even bother opening his eyes, and huddles his cat a little closer.
"Goodnight." He whispers.
Goodnight.
