Constructing is Hard

Summary:

A table breaks mysteriously and Spectre makes the survivors rebuild it.
Although this task is made more difficult than it needs to be.

At least it was nice enough to provide the parts.

I wrote this so long ago that I forgot it existed, but I may as well post it idk lol

Work Text:

Shedletsky, for all intents and purposes, should never be put in charge of constructing anything.

Why Builderman put him in charge, anyway, he will never know.

Probably because the rest of the people in this cabin they’d found themselves trapped in were even worse.

“I don’t understand how you messed this up. I- What even is this?? I left you alone for five minutes!”

“I know,” he replied, head in his hands and resignation clear in his voice.

“You were supposed to make a table!” he exclaimed. “Not whatever this is!”

‘Whatever this is’ consisted of some kind of flopped over stool with random wooden pieces connecting the legs to each other.

“I lost the instructions,” Shedletsky whined. “I just- I looked away for a second and then it was gone and-”

What do you mean gone?! Where would it go??”

“I don’t know!” he exclaimed. “Our ####bag of a host came by and took it-”

“You can’t blame everything on the Spectre.”

“Well, I left it right next to me, and it’s not there anymore!!”

“Okay, jeez,” he murmured, setting down his coffee cup on the floor because where else could he put it before moving over to help. “Undo everything you just did, and I’ll do it this time.”

“Okay, okay,” Shedletsky grumbled, reaching for the screwdriver again, head wings making a flicking motion as if to try and get rid of his irritation in that way. “I can break this apart..”

“You don’t sound very certain, Shed.”

“I can manage! When it’s taken apart, you make it yourself.”

“I plan to,” he replied with a soft huff. “I do not need instructions.”

And thus 007n7 later walked into the two of them shouting at each other while Chance watched in awe as if this was the most entertaining thing they’d ever seen, Guest, Noob and Taph watching with mild concern, the latter two clinging to each other like children watching their parents in the midst of a divorce while Guest seemed to be debating stepping in, and all the while, Elliot was waiting for the two admins to finish with a deadpan expression so he could make dinner and have a place to put the finished meal.

The other survivors were nowhere to be seen, and that was probably for the best, in all honesty.

“Your name is Builderman! Builder! Man! How did you mess this up?”

“The Spectre-”

“Who’s blaming that ####### for their screw-ups now?”

“You didn’t do any better either, ########!”

I made something functional! This is a ####### pile of wood!”

You ###### up the gaps the screws were supposed to go into by using the wrong ones!”

“HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO TELL WHICH SCREW GOES WHERE??? THEY ALL LOOK THE SAME!!”

“YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS WHERE THEY’RE LABELLED!”

“I DON’T HAVE THE #### INSTRUCTIONS!”

“WELL, TOUGH LUCK, SHEDLETSKY. IT’S NOT MY FAULT YOU LOST THEM!”

“I DIDN’T LOSE THEM, THEY WERE TAKEN-”

“YOU CAN’T BLAME THE ####### SPECTRE FOR EVERYTHING!”

“YES I CAN!”

…007n7 promptly decided he could wait to eat, actually, and casually backed out of the room before he was noticed.
