Work Text:
Akk knew there were better ways to spend his free time, but Khan had sent him a link of a fun little quiz, so he decided to check it out and he frowned, rubbing his forehead when he read what the title of the quiz was.
How compatible are you and your boyfriend?
It sounded simple enough.
Akk rolled his eyes because he didn’t really think too much of quizzes like this one. They were stupid and a waste of time, but since Khan kept going on and on about how he got a perfect score, bragging again and again, even sending a screenshot as proof, Akk decided to prove to him back that he and Ayan were even more compatible than them!.
Akk and Ayan have been dating for months now – how difficult could this quiz be?!
That was the only reason he was doing this, staring at the quiz for a good minute before he finally scrolled down the page, pressing his lips together and he tipped his head to the side because he expected this to be fairly easy and since Akk was being Akk, he took this seriously.
Akk was going to prove it to Khan that he and Ayan were even more compatible!
Khan scored 9 out of 10, but Akk was getting the perfect score!
Akk slowly scrolled down to the first question.
How similar are your and your boyfriend’s food preferences?
Akk frowned and he tipped his head to the side.
Food preferences? Did Ayan even have them? Because Ayan liked snacks, but he was more of a sweet-tooth than Akk. Akk liked spicy food more, but Ayan wasn’t a big fan of spicy food. Well, kind of. But, then again, there were most of the times that Ayan would steal food from his plate without even asking and Akk didn’t mind it. He liked doing the same, stealing Ayan’s food in return as well.
Akk liked it the best when Ayan would feed…
No.
Akk needed to focus!
Akk looked at all of the possibilities that he could answer with.
Very similar - somewhat similar - different - complete opposite
Akk rubbed his forehead and he stared at it, pondering for far too long.
They weren’t very similar, but they weren’t different either, so he tapped onto the somewhat similar button before he was taken to the next question, which made him frown even harder.
How do you and your boyfriend compare in dealing with stressful situations?
Akk snorted and he shook his head because this was easy.
Ayan usually annoyed him until Akk got distracted and ended up scolding Ayan in the process, forgetting what was bothering him in the first place. But, that was how Ayan helped him with dealing when he was troubled by something. How did Ayan deal with his own troubles?
Ayan would… talk it out with Akk.
Akk listened, he was good at it, right?
Ayan definitely talked a lot and Akk sighed because the possibilities didn’t really match any of that. There wasn’t a possibility for him to tap onto an answer saying that his boyfriend kept teasing until he had him blushing, so he tapped onto We talk about our problems instead.
It was true.
They talked.
Next question.
How similar are your personalities?
Akk huffed and blinked at the question because their personalities were different, but that was why it worked. Opposites attracted, but Akk only blinked at the options and he sighed, chewing on his lower lip.
There wasn’t an option like that – opposite, but well matched.
No.
The choices were…
Very similar - somewhat similar - different - complete opposite
Same as before.
Akk rolled his eyes and tapped onto the different options before he moved to the next question, which only made him frown even more.
Do you and your boyfriend agree how to spend time together?
Didn’t they?
Most of the time?
Well, Ayan seemed to be happy about everything, every little moment that he got, but if it was up to Ayan, all that they would do half of the time would be making out, wouldn't it? Akk, on the other hand, wouldn’t mind it, but he was pretty sure that his heart wouldn’t be able to handle it. He would perish before he would be able to keep up with it.
Akk whined
This was difficult
How did Khan manage to get all of this right?!
Akk chewed on his lower lip.
Akk was just… shy, but it didn’t really mean that he wouldn’t agree with Ayan’s preposition, so he picked the We usually agree option before he moved to the next question, which only made his mood worsen because the further he moved into the quiz, the more he was now doubting if he and Ayan were really compatible.
All over an online quiz.
It was silly.
More questions followed.
How well do you understand each other’s feelings?
How often do you fight?
How well do your interests match each other?
And so on.
Some of the questions Akk could guess easily, but then there were others that made him think for way too long, but only because the options to answer the questions sucked.
Still, Akk took it way too seriously and his eyes widened when he hit onto the result button. The page loaded and his jaw widened only a little bit, tipping his head to the side as he read the results.
You scored 6/10. You and your partner are somewhat compatible, but you could work on your compatibility. For our tricks and tips, click the more button if you’d like to learn how to improve your relationship.
Akk huffed.
This was ridiculous, very ridiculous.
Biting onto his lower lip, Akk kept scaring at those bold letters and he felt annoyance kicking in because he was offended. The quiz claimed to know them more than… themselves? And yet, it made Akk feel kind of discouraged because he thought he knew that he and Ayan were perfect for each other!
Well, he knew that they were perfect, but there was always room for improvement?
Akk was annoyed.
The results of the quiz pissed him off and he stared back at Khan’s texts and he only stuck out his tongue, crossing his arms on top of his sides and he felt his cheeks burning up because it actually bothered him.
An online quiz managed to get under his skin.
It was so stupid.
Akk dragged his hand over his face and then he opened up the page again, looking at the click more option and he wondered – this was only for them to get more clicks and likes. He was aware, he wasn’t stupid. He was only annoyed because he worked!
And, so, Akk tapped onto it, narrowing his eyes.
Akk rolled his eyes because the first thing that the article started was yap about what compatibility was all about – how it wasn’t about being the same person as your partner, but it was about understanding each other better, so that you could grow together as a couple and as individuals.
Bla, bla, bla.
Nothing new.
Then he finally came to the ‘tricks and tips’.
- It’s all about those little questions!
Even if you and your partner have been together for a very long time – are you really sure you know them very well? You should try asking little questions about their preferences, have that little conversation, it will turn out to be very meaningful.
Ask them:
- What kind of food do they enjoy?
- What kind of music do they like?
- What makes them happy?
Akk frowned – he did listen, didn’t he?
He and Ayan did all of this already, so this was pretty pointless.
Still, he carried on.
- It’s all about being observant!
Pay attention to the smallest of the details that they do every single day!
Notice:
- What makes them smile
- What kind of food do they prefer to order
- What makes them happy
- What…
Akk scrolled past it.
That sounded reasonable, but he already did all of that, so he only groaned and scrolled forward to the next section.
- It’s all about spending time together!
Spending time together can be a very beneficial way to learn more about each other. Call them, make those plans, set those dates. It is important to…
“We do all of this already,” groaned Akk and scrolled to the next section.
- It is all about the small gestures!
Sometimes, it is those small gestures that can make a whole lot of differences! Doing something small to make your partner smile, it will show them how much you care and love them. Draw them something, make them…
Akk narrowed his eyes.
All of this was just word-salad.
He didn’t like it because he was pretty sure that he and Ayan already did it, so he locked his phone, feeling even more annoyed and he closed his eyes, massaging his temples because his mood was ruined.
Thanks to an online quiz.
And Khan.
Akk didn’t need an online article to tell him how well he and Ayan understood each other… right?
Ayan was acting strange that day.
Not in a bad way, but in a way that Ayan wasn’t really sure what was going on. Akk kept staring at him in a certain way and Ayan didn’t really know what to think of it, but he didn’t make a comment about it.
That was until they found themselves in the cafeteria, food in front of them.
Akk always went immediately for food, but not that day.
That day, Akk was too focused on interrogating Ayan for some reason and he was amused, slowly chewing his food as Akk kept looking at him, curiosity sparking up and Ayan was about to ask him what was going on, but Akk asked another question and Ayan snorted.
“What’s your comfort food, Aye?” asked Akk, because he just wanted to check something. He kept wanting to check little things like that, which would help him prove that the online quiz was wrong. He didn’t even know why it mattered so much, but it bothered him. It annoyed him so much and he huffed under his breath because he saw that twinkle of interest in Ayan’s eyes.
Ayan was aware that he was up to something.
Ayan always knew things like that!
Ayan wanted to answer seriously, but since Akk kept asking him things like that for the entire day at university that day, he decided to be a little menace and he hummed along, tapping his fingers against the table, only to lean closer and whisper it into his ear.
“You.”
Akk’s jaw dropped, rubbing his ear and his cheeks turned red. Then, he whined and he rolled his eyes. There he was trying to be serious, but Ayan kept teasing him and he looked down.
Honestly, he had a feeling that Ayan would say something like this.
“Aye!”
“What? It’s true,” sighed Ayan, leaning back. “I enjoy eating you.”
“Ayan!” snapped Akk, his face even redder. “Be serious!”
“But, I am,” said Ayan playfully and puckered up. “Come on, it’s okay, na? I know you enjoy it just as much.”
“Aye, I’m trying to-”
“Yes?” asked Ayan, now getting more curious than playful. “You’ve been interrogating me for the whole day – tell me, what are you up to?” asked Ayan and perked up. “Are you planning something? Will you apply for a couple cooking classes? I think that could be romantic.”
“Not really,” muttered Akk, face again red and Ayan only smiled.
“Then?”
“Nothing,” said Akk and looked down because all of this was stupid. Very stupid and too silly for Ayan to find out. Ayan must never find out about this because it was too embarrassing and he stuffed salad into his mouth, chewing hard and angry.
The angry chewing noises were what did it for Ayan.
He melted against him and buried his face into Akk’s shoulder.
“Akk! Why are you so cute when you’re angry?”
“I’m not-”
“Why so grumpy?”
Akk didn’t say anything, so Ayan just leaned in and before Akk could notice, he stole a piece of food from his plate. Ayan didn’t hesitate, he just took it, happily chewing and licking at his lips, humming along. Akk’s eyes were on him and he smiled softly, the tips of his ears turning red and he leaned over to the side, pretending that he was annoyed.
But, it made him happy.
It was a routine.
Ayan didn’t need to ask.
Ayan slowly put rice onto his spoon and slowly brought it over to Akk’s mouth, pressing the spoon against his mouth and Akk slowly chewed his own food and allowed Ayan to feed him a spoonful of his own rice, humming happily.
Ayan grinned.
“Good?”
Akk nodded.
“You can have some more,” said Ayan eagerly, but Akk only shook his head and blocked his own plate, shaking his head. “Why not? You like rice and you have already finished your own, so-”
“Yeah, but you need to eat too, Aye,” whined Akk.
“I’ll get to eat something yummier later,” said Ayan and waggled his eyebrows. “I wouldn’t want to spoil my appetite, na?”
“Oh, shut up,” whined Akk.
“Make me,” challenged him Ayan, but Akk only flushed harder and he looked away.
Oh, he was so stupid.
That quiz really was nothing but a waste of time.
Seriously, Akk couldn’t believe he even allowed him to bother him, even if a little bit. It was os stupid. What did an online quiz know how compatible he and Ayan were? They were perfect for each other!
Ayan didn’t even have to ask him to know that Akk needed more rice!
Akk shook his head and he snorted.
Akk snorted because he realised how stupid it was and Ayan frowned, now interested in why Akk looked so amused. The more that Akk thought about it, the more he was amused by how stupid the whole thing was, still chewing his food and he shook his head.
“Ah,” sighed Akk.
“What’s so funny?”
Ayan wasn’ supposed to know, but Akk forgot about that part of his plan.
“I can’t believe I let a stupid quiz bother me this much,” said Akk and Ayan frowned.
“What quiz?”
Akk wasn’t thinking, he needed to stop talking, but it was already too late.
“Nothing!” said Akk right away.
“Oh, it definitely is something,” said Ayan and leaned closer with a pout. “Tell me.”
“N-no.”
“I’ll bully the answers out of you, Akk!” said Ayan and pressed a kiss against his cheek.
“Aye!” came AKk’s high pitched whine.
“Mmm?”
“No!”
Another kiss to his forehead, then to his other cheek, to his chin, and by the time that Ayan reached his lips, Akk had given up, laughing with Ayan as he leaned over to the side and clicked with his tongue.
“If you laugh, I will not talk to you for a whole week, Ayan!”
Ayan perked up and quickly shook his head.
“I won't, I promise!”
Akk hesitated, but eventually he decided to let Ayan know what was bothering him for almost a whole day.
“Khan sent me a stupid compatibility quiz - to check how compatible you are with your boyfriend and I got… Well, look!” said Akk, still a little bit annoyed as he had taken a screen shot of his answer and showed it to Ayan. “Look, Aye! This is the result I got. This quiz is clearly a scam!”
Ayan knitted his eyebrows together.
A… quiz?
Akk had taken a personality quiz?
This was…
Huh?
Ayan looked down at Akk’s phone and read…
You scored 6/10. You and your partner are somewhat compatible, but you could work on your compatibility. For our tricks and tips, click the more button if you’d like to learn how to improve your relationship.
Ayan blinked hard.
He said he wouldn’t laugh, but this was just too cute.
Akk got so worried about a personality quiz? This was just…
“You got worried-”
“No, not worried because I knew it was wrong, but I am annoyed because this thing is a liar,” said Akk and scowled. “We’re clearly very compatible and this thing is-”
Akk didn’t finish his sentence because he heard Ayan.
He heard him laughing.
Akk’s jaw dropped.
“Aye-”
“Sorry!” said Ayan right away. But, the fact that Akk got so grumpy over a quiz was too cute. Ayan couldn’t help it. He grabbed Akk’s face gently and kissed his nose. “How are you so cute, Akk?”
“Aye-”
“It’s okay, na? Quizzes like this are stupid.”
“I know,” groaned Akk. “I don’t get why I let it bother me!”
“Because you are cute,” said Ayan, nodding seriously.
“What are you even-”
“But, you are right,” said Ayan. “We don’t need a test to know how compatible we are,” said Ayan right away, kissing him softly. “Don’t worry your pretty head with it, Akk. We’re perfect.”
“Mn.”
“Maybe we should sue,” said Ayan and looked at the phone. “For defamation.”
Akk was now laughing as well, shaking his head and he pressed a kiss to Ayan’s cheek.
“Don’t tease!” said Akk and Ayan decided to settle down.
For now, at least.
With the quiz finally being forgotten, Akk happily scooped the rest of the rice onto his plate and Ayan had fun watching Akk stuff his face with more food. He really was too cute, still entertained by the idea of Akk being bothered about the online quiz.
Really, too cute.
