Cory woke up to the morning rays shining through the glass windows of the magic tower. He hadn’t woken up this early since his days of school were over. However, this time, he realized someone was lying on him.
“Ugh… It’s too early,” he slumped back down on the sofa as he realized that Shu Shu was still asleep and it would be uncomfortable for her if he sat up straight. Chuckling to himself as he remembered their days at school. Her peaceful expression in her sleep was just the same as the time she had slept in their club room that one day when she was exhausted beyond comprehension.
His hands wander to her hair, it had become a habit during their days at school, as Shu Shu had let him play with her hair when they had nothing to do during their club time. He began to play with her hair, twirling it around his fingers. He contemplated whether he should braid Shu Shu’s hair like he usually did.
‘I probably shouldn’t, I don’t think I can do a good job right now.’ Since he didn’t want to get up but also couldn’t go back to sleep, he continued to play with Shu Shu’s hair mindlessly. He started thinking about their school days, thinking about how if he hadn’t overheard Hestia’s conversation, he would have probably never known or gotten close to Shu Shu. Cory smiled to himself as he remembered how persistent Shu Shu was at getting him to join the club she created.
After a while, he realized he should at least prepare something for Shu Shu to eat once she woke up. Deciding to finally get up and do something, he levitated Shu Shu with magic so she wouldn’t be disturbed by him getting up and setting her back into a comfortable position on the sofa.
‘What should I make? Something sweet but filling would be best… Ah, pancakes would do.’ Going into the magic tower’s kitchen, he started to prepare his ingredients. One cup of all-purpose flour, two tablespoons of sugar, one tablespoon of baking powder, one-half teaspoon of salt, one cup of milk, one egg, and two tablespoons of melted butter. He grabbed a large bowl, mixing flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together. Using another bowl to whisk the milk, egg, and melted butter together. Then he started to mix the wet and dry ingredients, stirring until it was just mixed, with a few lumps. He turned on the stove and took a non-stick pan, pouring about one-fourth cup of batter to create each pancake over medium heat. He waited until bubbles formed on the surface, then flipped pancaked until they turned golden brown.
He took out two plates, placing down two pancakes on each plate. He placed blueberries and strawberries on top of the pancakes, then drizzled some honey and dusted some powdered sugar over everything. After he was satisfied with how the pancakes looked, he made two cups of coffee, taking them to Shu Shu’s room. When he entered her room, he realized that Shu Shu had woken up, however, she still looked a little dazed. He couldn’t help the small smile that formed when looking at Shu Shu and how she at least looked well rested for now. He placed down the plates and cups he was holding onto the table.
“Good morning Shu Shu.” He smiled gently at her, noticing that she still hadn’t realized that he was in the room.
“Cory? Huh, oh yeah. Good morning to you, too.” She smiled back at him. She still felt like she could sleep more, but her habits refused to allow her to do so. She noticed that there was a scent of food in her room and saw that there were two plates of pancakes and 2 mugs of what seemed to be coffee. “Did you make those?” She pointed to the plates and mugs.
“Well, I thought you would like to wake up to breakfast prepared already, do you want to eat?” He walked towards Shu Shu, offering his hand to her.
Shuraina chuckled at Cory's antics but decided to go along with him, taking his hand, she let herself be guided by Cory towards the table with food.
They sat down at opposite sides of the table, Cory waited for Shu Shu to take a bite first before he would. Shuraina stared at the food, realizing that the fruits on top of the pancakes formed a heart. She couldn’t help but blush a little at how Cory was deciding to flirt with her through food. Cory couldn’t help the smile that spread across his face when he realized that Shu Shu was blushing from how he decorated the pancakes.
“Shu Shu, aren't you going to eat the pancakes?” While Cory did enjoy Shu Shu’s reaction, he still wanted Shu Shu to eat since it was very likely that she would work late into the night on her inventions again.
Once Shuraina heard Cory say this, she finally took a bite of the pancakes. She couldn’t help but look satisfied with how they tasted.
“These are really good!” She continued to eat, taking a sip of coffee as well.
“I’m glad you like them.” Cory began to eat his pancakes as well, however, he was more focused on how Shu Shu looked satisfied with the food he made.
They continued to eat peacefully, enjoying sharing a meal together. Once they finished eating, Cory took the dishes back to the kitchen to clean them. Shuraina followed after him, and once he was finished, she went behind him and hugged him. Cory stiften up for a moment, but relaxed soon enough.
“Thank you for making me breakfast, I really appreciate it.” Shuraina smiled up at Cory. She had wanted to thank Cory for many things, one of them being that he made a magic tower so that they could continue to do research together after they graduated from school.
Cory couldn’t help but blush at Shu Shu’s words. “Of course, it’s not like it’s a hassle.” He smiled back at Shu Shu. He just hoped that they could stay happy together like this and spend the rest of their lives together, peaceful and happy.
