Work Text:

Stood upon the back of the transformed Zenos, the twin Warriors of Light, Illusio and Aria Karnasus, called forth the power held within the crystals clutched tightly to their chests, and a magick circle, its design oh-so familiar to them erupted at their feet. While they had planned to call forth the stars to their side, Illusio suddenly came up with a new idea. Was it insane? Maybe, but he’d be damned if he wasn’t going to go all-out against the Endsinger.

“Aria!” he yelled over the ringing tone of the pillars of light surrounding them, “let’s try something different, pull the magick into you!”

Aria immediately understood exactly what her twin brother planned to do, and nodded. In an instant, the golden glow of the summoning magick shifted, turning into a brilliant cerulean, and the beams pouring onto the circle bounced up and towards the pair. The aether began to whirl around them, forming a twister nearly the size of the platform Zenos was conjuring for them to fight upon.

From within, a pair of voices echoed out in perfect harmony, “We are Azem, the last of the Convocation of Fourteen, Shepherds to the Stars In The Dark, and guardians of Etheriys.” The whirlwind faded, and revealed the true source of the voices. While their features largely remained the same, they were easily four times the size they were prior, gone were their viera ears, and their outfits had transformed into proper ancient regalia, though their masks were pitch black, with accents the same cerulean as the storm they just emerged from. Standing upon the back of the summoned dragon were no longer the Warriors of Light, Aria and Illusio, but the Twin Travellers, Artemis and Erebus. Their bodies now held a maelstrom of aether and dynamis, the two energies in perfect balance,  ready for use as needed, and use it they did.

Letting the aether flow and shape their bodies, the twins released their transformation magic.

Erebus became clad in the night sky, his body a seemingly endless void, dotted with stars. From his back unfurled a pair of pitch-black wings, demonic in appearance, shifting to the sea cerulean of their souls at the tips. In claws of the same shade appeared a pair of blades, seemingly drawing in the surrounding light, and a ring of white crystals spinning around the crossguard on both. A midnight blue cloak with silver edging lay over his shoulders, billowing in the wind as they chased down their strongest opponent yet.

Where Erebus looked like a demon, Artemis was closer to an angel. Her eyes were covered by what appeared to be a golden metal blindfold, though she could still clearly, and her wings were fully covered in feathers, once again matching the shared colour of their souls. Her hair flowed freely behind her, a wild mane of teal with flecks of deep red throughout. In her hands was a truly massive greatsword, pure white with a vein of cerulean running along the entire length of the blade. Golden scale armour covered most of her body, the gaps at the joints revealing black mail underneath, and flaring out into a warrior’s skirt at the waist.

The pair readied their blades, and charged towards the Endsinger. It was time to put a stop to the Final Days, for good.

The battle raged on for hours, Artemis and Erebus covering each other’s openings perfectly, weaving between the Endsinger’s lasers, planetary explosions and repeated use of the construct Kairos to rewind and resume the latter. Eventually, the rogue entelechy backed off, and declared, “If there is no happiness in life, there is only one place it may be found…”

The swirling dynamis swelled, and the pair felt they could push past their limits once again, further than they ever had before. Endsinger summoned forth a massive planet, intent on slamming it down into them.

“Oblivion!” she screamed, and the planet sailed forth.

Double Limit Break 4: Shroud of the Wild Hunt

The twins reached for the dynamis in the same moment, shrouding the both of them behind a wall of billowing void. The projectile planet slammed into it and shattered on contact, flowing into the barrier, and bringing the dynamis surrounding them back to a fever pitch.

The Endsinger once again summoned Kairos, in an attempt to rewind the collision. There was a moment of silence, as the construct attempted to find the object to rewind. But there was nothing left of it to rewind, as every last atom had been transformed into dynamis.

She was stunned. “Dynamis?” she began, “No matter, you only delay the inevitable.” and she created a new planet to throw at them.

Light the way!

Before either could react to the planet, they felt the dynamis flow into a new shield, and the voices of their fellow scions cry out.

“We will stand against fate” Alphinaud began,

“No matter the cost!” Alisaie continued,

“We’ve been here before…” Thancred stated,

“Many a time.” Urianger agreed,

“Thus do we know…” Y’shtola chimed in,

“To never give up” Estinien declared,

“For hope will shine again!” G’raha finished.

The flow of dynamis shifted, and the transformed ancients knew at once that their control over the invisible energy had surpassed that of the entelechy, granting them full control. They began to pull it into themselves, ready to put an end to this battle.

Double Limit Break 4: Singularity

A staff appeared in both of their hands, the twin travellers used the flow of dynamis to concentrate the aether down to a single point, which they launched straight into the Endsinger. It punched straight into her body, and there was a brief moment of tense silence, as the mote of concentrated aether slowed to a halt at her center of mass. Then, everything went white as the magic exploded, taking the orchestrator of the Final Days with it.

Notes:

I've had Endcaller (Zodiark's battle theme) and The Final Day stuck in my head for a minute, and this is the result of that. I came up with the "We are Azem" line while doing uni work about 3 hours before writing this fic and the brainworms wouldn't leave my alone after I came up with the designs for the transformed versions of my twin Azems lmao.

Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed!
