Chapter Text
Hello everyone and welcome to the first chapter of this story. Since I found the fact that only the Devil Faction is explored by most stories of DxD a bit boring I've decided to try a different route by exploring the more angelic side of the world with an angel character. I'm sure there might be some errors here and there with my grammar that I'm not aware of so I'll apologize for them in advance and say they were not on purpose so have mercy on my when it comes to that XD.
I do not own any characters other then my OC or any of the songs written in this chapter but I still hope you enjoy this story all the same.

PROLOGUE
PALACE OF JUSTICE - HEAVEN
The paradise, the promised land, nirvana, the realm of god, many were the names that people would use to refer to Heaven, the place where the soul of every good beings was promised to reach by god should their deeds in life have been moreally good and virtuous, a place without sin or vice away from human suffering and harm. Here rested the many souls of people that had died and were rewarded with entrance through it's golden gates protected by the celestial beings that were only bellow good himself, the angels, beings of great power and genenous hearts that symbolizes justice and everything that was good in this world.
Our story begins in the grand cathedral known as the Palace of Justice. This large religious golden estate stood tall over the many others around it, reflecting the sun's light all over the kingdom of God as a great beacon of heaven's majesty. There, near it's entrance we see a rather tall looking angel making it's way through the crowd of other celestial that made way for him with looks of reverence and respect. His light green hair and handsome face made him a sight to see even when compared to other angels and his 6 wings showed his rank as a Seraph, one of the most powerfull of them all. This was Raphael, one of the Four Great Seraphs, the highest authorities in Heaven, and the Chief Angel of Temperance.
Raphael: This again little brother?
The Seraph was, however, not alone in his stroll through the Cathedral as another smaller angel followed him close behind.
????: This can not go on brother Raphael. I can't stand to look at it anymore.
The smaller angel complained.
Raphael sighed, once again he would have to stop what he was doing in order to have the same conversation with this particular angel. Even the other angels going through the golden halls rolled their eyes at the seemingly common sight before returning to their obligations.
Raphael: I believe I already explained the necessity of the Catholic Churches in the Human world as did Michael, Uriel, Gabriel and every one of our brothers and sisters. If they don't keep humanity faithful then father's system, peace be upon his soul, will stop working and so will the balance of things in the world. It will be the end of everything as we know it.
The older angel explained as calmly as he could, praying that this little one would get the message he was trying to pass this time, although even his faith in that was beginning to die.
????: And I understand that brother-
Raphael: Do you Melodiel?
The Seraphim interrupted before turning around to stare disapprovingly at his younger brother. In front of him stood a slightly short teenager looking angel dressed in a white tunic with gold accents, a pair of dark purple shorts and sandals. His eyes were hazy and hazel in color and his hair medium black, something that set him apart from all of the other angels in heaven, which he kept tied in a small ponytail. All in all, like all other celestials, he was pretty good looking even if his looks were more on the cutesy side with his small halo floating over his head.
Raphael: Do you really ... ?
The others looked on at the intesity of the gaze that Raphael was giving to Melodiel in silence. While Raphael was the chief angel of Temperance, they knew that even his patience had limits and Melodiel was testing his at this point.
Melodiel: I do brother more then you imagine, however, we can't ignore their misdeeds and sins any longer! It's clear that they are unable to fullfil their duty without straying from the right path! They need our guidance!
The young angel insisted even as his brother's larger figure casted a large shadow over him.
Melodiel: We need to take to go down there and guide them properly! If we could just send a few of us to the human world and take the reigns for some time we could-
Raphael: So you mean to turn our followers into puppets while we pull strings from the shadows?
Raphael interrupted again.
Melodiel: That was not what I meant! I simply said we need to be more active and provide support in a more direct way!
Raphael: ENOUGH!
Melodiel's figure froze as the Seraphim's voice echoed within the palace, mutting every other sound around on the otherwise busy residence.
Raphael: We can not replenish our numbers like the devils so we're not risk losing more of us to corruption or attacks by placing them down there without a very good reason Melodiel. We need to believe in our father's creation and keep cooperating with them so they can keep our faith alive.
Having vented out some of his frustration, Raphael calmly placed a hand on his brother's shoulder as his expression softened with care for Melodiel and his worries.
Raphael: Have faith Melodiel.
"Have faith", "Have faith", "Have faith". No matter how many times had passed, no matter how many times he tried to explain it or how many plans he made to convince them, that was all his older brothers and sister kept repeating to ease his worries. "Wait and hope", "pray", "have faith" was what the others said. How ignorant could they all be? How many would they damn by using those words as excuses for their lack of intervention?
Raphael noticed the smaller angel clutching his fists with unmistakable fury as he bit his lip in frustration with enough force to draw blood. He didn't even have to look at his face to imagine the kind of expression he was making which only serve to worry him even more. He had always been very different from all the other angels and as time went by and gave Melodiel the gift of change with age those changes started to become more and more evident and dangerous to him. Even the meeting that was going to was in part to discuss what the Seraphs should to with this problematic little gift of god.
Raphael: Promise me you'll have faith Melodiel.
He said has he gently pulled him in for a hug. That hug however was not reciprocated and once it was over, Melodiel shook his head.
Melodiel: I'm sorry brother but lying is a sin. Please don't ask me to sin for you ...
*FLAP*
Before anyone could react, Melodiel's angelic wings sprouted from his back and took him up to the skies and away from the watchers that no doubt had been looking down on him with pity and thought of him as just another lost soul in need of his brother's guidance.
This particular angel was quickly becoming a problem not only for Raphael but also for the other 3 Seraphs he had come to meet with. Melodiel's incessant nagging regarding the flaws of the Catholic Church the misdeeds of the human that worked in it was becoming more and more apparent with each passing day and even some others of their kind had begun speaking about it themselves causing a slightly uncomfortable mood whenever he was around.
Rapahel shook his head in tiredness at Melodiel's actions but composed himself before returning to his main reason why he was there in the Palace of Justice in the first place. He would have to discuss this with the other 3 as he was sure that they too had become aware of this particular dove's less then spectacular behaviour.
As Raphael walked through the golden halls, the guards saluted him as he passed before returning to their assigned position and soon enough, he found himself twisting the knob of the door of the meeting room. Once he got in, all the other three Seraphs were already there waiting for him. One of them was a man with slightly light blue hair and red glasses, this was Uriel the Chief Angel of Patience and the most competitive among all 4 Seraphs, Right next to him was the only woman in the room, Gabriel the Chief Angel of Purit, an extremely beautiful woman with curly blonde hair and a voluptuous figure befitting of her title as the most beautiful woman in Heaven. Lastly, between Gabriel and Raphael's empty seat stood the current ruler of the heavenly domain the last Seraph and the oldest among them Michael a handsome-looking man with long blond hair and green eyes.
Uriel: You're late brother. I imagine that has something to do with our little lyre?
Uriel asked as he corrected the position of his glasses. Raphael nodded, confirming Uriel's suspicion.
Raphael: Yes, (sigh) yes that is sadly the case Uriel.
The 3 of them knew what he was feeling. Melodiel was a good kid, he really was, but his way of thinking had always been, in one way or the other, slightly problematic. He always offered honest suggestions and kept trying but it was obvious that his ways to trying to solve things were too different from the usual ways of most angels which has caused some turmoil here and there over the year. The current case however, unlike the others, showed no signs of slowing down, quite the opposite, it was only getting more and more aggravating as time went by without a solution.
Gabriel: Poor thing, he's just trying to help and yet he keeps getting himself hurt.
The only female in the room commented, offering a small prayer to their little brother.
Uriel: Unfortunatly dear sister the matter he decided to pick on is far too complex and sensitive for him to be allowed to have any sort of agency over. Melodiel is young and careless, age will give him the wisdom and patience requiered to properly understand the reasoning behind our actions.
Perhaps that's why they were soo worried. The topic was too serious and important for them to allow any sort of action on Melodiel's part. The Church was one of the fundations of their faction and a very important one at that, an internal conflict would put them at a serious disatvantage against the other 2 Christian factions that would not overlook such a sign of weakness.
Michael: Yet I fear that none of those are gonna make it in time. His attitude worries me.
The oldest in the room expressed his honest worries with the other 3.
Michael: He's making himself more and more vocal with each passing day. It started with small innocent questions at first but now he's starting to question Heaven's every action no matter which. Every incident in the human world only fans the flames of his worries so I had to forbid him from even participating in certain matters in any circle of angels and that only made him even more distrusting. (Long sigh) ... I'm lost.
Michael said, increadulous at his own words.
Michael:: I honestly don't know what to do with him. We can not just do nothing and let him lose himself but anything we do just makes Melodiel more and more cynical and bitter. He actually believes we're justifying his worries and we can't keep him away from this matter forever.
Out of the corner of his eye, Uriel noticed the Gabriel looked a bit restless with the discussion and her expression betrayed the fact that she had something bottled up inside. She was always the purest and more honest out of all.
Uriel: What worries you Gabriel?
Gabriel almost jumped from her seat, her brother's voice forcefully pulling her from own thoughts and back to reallity.
Gabriel: Eh? Huh? I ...
The purest angel in Heaven stumbled in her own words, not being able to decide what were the most adequate words to get her out of this situation.
Raphael: Share your burden with us Gabriel. Let us carry it with you sister.
She looked at them as they looked on with reassuring smiles and a welcoming silence, given her a chance to speak.
Gabriel: W-Well, Melodiel's attitude has indeed become a bit of a worry yes but ...
The female Seraph took a deep breath, preparing herself to she was about to say.
Gabriel: Honestly, I'm more worried about his gifts and how they are affecting others.
Her brothers's serene expressions turned serious as this had suddently become a very serious matter. Melodiel's actions affecting himself was one thing, but actually affecting the other angels, and with his gifts nonetheless? That was unexcusable.
Gabriel: Recently, I happened to passing by when I heard him sing on a cloud nearby soo I decided to stop by and greet him as it had been quite a while since we actually had spoken to one another. When I got there he was surrounded by a small audience, which made me very happy as I know he had been isolating himself as of late. But ...
She paused only making the other 3 more and more worried.
Raphael: Out with it sister, tell us what happened after that.
Gabriel pushed a lump down her throat, making the sign of the cross while muttering a quiet apology to Melodiel for what she was about to reveal.
Gabriel: Well, I-I could see desire and infatuation in the eyes of some of them, they showed signs of less then pure thoughts bu-bu-but NOTHING SERIOUS OF COURSE! And I think Melodiel was not making this happen on purpose as he was lost in own notes.
The mood of the meeting had already become heavy and bitter and now, no matter how Gabriel tried to fix it, it was gonna stay that way much to the distaste of all the 4 Seraphs's present.
Uriel: If you said it was not on purpose I will of course believe you sister but ...
Raphael: The fact that he was able to create temptation within them is troubling and very dangerous.
Michael: Melodiel is the angel of words and songs, his voice alone had made itself known among us ever since the moment father made him. Every word he mutters resonates with people to create power within them. We saw his gift as a great and innocent help but perhaps we need to acknowledge it as a double-edged sword and take measures to avoid him making others fall from grace. We should explain the situation to him.
Raphael: Do you think that's wise? He's not in his right mind right now, there's a risk he will use-
Uriel: DO NOT FINISH THAT PHRASE RAPHAEL!
The blue-haired Seraph shouted, slamming his fist on the desk and almost breaking it in the process. Their brother was NOT a low-life heretic.
Uriel: He's confused not mad! Melodiel is a pacifist at heart, I'm sure that if we speak with him he'll understand our concerns regarding this difficult matter.
He explained, trying his best to assure everyone in the room, including himself.
Raphael: O-Of course, I almost said something inexcusable. Forgive me.
Gabriel: I-I believe we have other importants matters to discuss as well soo should we postphone this for when those are dealt with.
Gabriel suggested, seeing that this topic was started to get a bit too heated and without the said person being here to help them solve this problem, the 4 of them would not get a solution anytime soon.
Michael: That would be for the best sister. Let's speak about our next moves on the human word then.
SOMEWHERE IN HEAVEN - DAYS LATER
The days went on in Heaven as the good souls of mortals and angels carried on with their happy lives, almost unaware of the evils and vices of the realms bellow. The Seraphs had eventually come to an agreement during those days and decided to reveal the truth of their concerns to Melodiel. The young angel was brough before them and filled in on the matters discussed. Needless to say, he wasn't exactly radiating with joy at the news that his gift potentially had the power to tarnish the grace of his fellow angels. The highest authorities within Heaven spoke with Melodiel for hours to decide the best course of action to take but in the end they decided to believe Melodiel when he said that he would take care of it. The matter was now seemingly solved, yet, Michael, Uriel, Gabriel and Raphael could not say that they were happy with the answer Melodiel decided to provide them with. After days in isolation, Heaven came to know the silence of the Bird of God.
Gabriel: There was no need to take things this far Melodiel!
Gabriel said as she walked side by side with the young angel. The said angel was now however wearing a mask that covered the lower part of his face, a black one with golden strings and small angelic details embroidered into it.
Gabriel: I know you are worried but you don't have to go as far as to make a vow of silence dear.
She reassured. His hazy eyes looked at her with silent warmth at his gentle sister. While she could not say it for sure, Gabriel was pretty sure he was smiling at her trying to reassure her that everything was alright.
Gabriel: Stop this Melodiel, I don't like seeing you use that.
He made a motion with his hand in front of them creating letters with his light in order to communicate his thoughts.
Melodiel: "Vows are sacred".
Gabriel: I know that they are sacred and I respect the fact that you are taking yours seriously little lyre, it's that mask and what you did with it that I don't like.
She insisted. He looked like a muzzled dog, HIM, Melodiel, the Heaven's Lyre as well as the Bird of God and this sight irritated her a lot.
Soon enough both of them reached the small establishment that was Melodiel's house, a small residence situated on top of a medium sized cloud and opened their wings in order to fly towards it's entrance. A few moments after going inside, Gabriel's hands reached out for the back of his head where the clip keeping his mask over his face stood behind his hair, quickly undoing it and pulling the object out off Melodiel's face in a far rougher motion then she had intended.
Gabriel: There, much better.
She said with joy.
Melodiel: "Must you do that everytime you enter my house now Gabriel?"
He asked using his light letters as he re-did the ponytail on his hair that had come undone because of Gabriel less then calm gesture moments before.
Gabriel: We both know you would be unable to take it off youself so a thank you would be apreciated my little lyre.
Her words were true, Melodiel's vow was much more then a simple vow of silence. Once the solemn promise was made up here, as it was tradition and the system in Heaven, a symbol to represent it would be created in essence giving it a physical manifestation. In Melodiel's case that came in the form of his mask and in order to make sure that he could not break the said vow he created conditions to ensure he would honour it. One of those conditions was the fact once the mask was placed over his face he, Melodiel, could not remove it on his own and would always need someone else other then him to take it off, reassuring everyone that even if he wanted to use his gifts he would need someone else's cooperation to do it.
Melodiel rolled his eyes at the Seraph's childish actions with a smile but none the less wrote a "Thank you" on the air before starting to walk down the halls of his own room.
Gabriel: You are most welcome eheh.
Gabriel childlike, relaxed attitude was always welcomed by Melodiel, it reminded him of his childhood days and how she and the others always made sure to make it as happy for him as they could. She was the closest thing to a mother that he had and he made sure to treasure her everyday in any way he could.
As they passed by the halls, Gabriel eyes glimmed with expectation that she was unable to hide so she made Melodiel pick up the pace by grabbing his hand and dragging along so they would reach their destinaton faster. What was her destination some might wonder? The music room. Gabriel loved it, how spacious it was and how she had her own pile of pillows and enough space to lay in them with enough room to streach out all of her wings without risking knocking down anything but above all else, how the instruments came to life under their maestro's melodious guidance and his lovely songs echoed throught it. The best place with the best music and her own seat to enjoy it all without any worries, Gabriel own little escape from her responsabilities and duties.
As soon as they both got inside the said room Gabriel quickly let go of Melodiel's arm before jumping into the pile of pillows that was inside and spread her wings, now comfortable and with an expecting look on her eyes. Truth be told that pile was reserved just for her, but in the room there was also different things that the remaining arcangels brought for their own comfort. A sofa brought by Uriel, an armchair reserved by Raphael and even another one behind a desk which Michael used when he decided he wanted some background music while he worked. All in all, no one could deny that the arcangels enjoyed being in the young angel's presence which brought him great joy.
Knowing fully well Gabriel was expecting a song, the black-haired picked up one of his violins and prepared himself.
Melodiel: Any requests?
He asked out loud, using his own words for the first time in a while
Gabriel: Surprise me little lyre.
The angel closed his eyes for a bit as his mind seached for a good song to give his sister a break from her problem and bring forth the joy she was known for even more and his lips curved into an even bigger smile when he found. Melodiel's right foot tapped the floor three times to set a small rhythm for himself and then, the bow in his hand touched the strings of the violin.
Melodiel: 🎵 If I could just cross that rainbow, 🎵
🎵 I would want to go over the rainbow bridge. 🎵
He sang out calmly, making sure his notes hit the right pitch and set the mood he wanted.
Melodiel: 🎵 I'd go to a faraway, unknown town, 🎵
🎵 And sing a song of happiness.🎵
More and more of his violins joined the one in his hand and all other instruments around them jolted awake in a great symphony of glorious sounds. His songs were always magical, Gabriel thought. She knew she was an angel in heaven but under his voice, she was able to imagine herself to be just a normal girl going on a big journey, meeting all types of different people and having many adventures and it all looked soo real if she just shut her eyes and let his melodies carry her off to god knows where.
Melodiel: 🎵 After the rain, raindrops are singing outside the window. 🎵
🎵 Crossing forests, crossing valleys, 🎵
🎵 Just where are you going, O rainboooooooow? 🎵
Melodiel sang now extending his notes, fully immersed in his own concert.
Melodiel: 🎵 I always dream... of an unknown town, 🎵
🎵 And of the person who is waiting for me there. 🎵
Outside the warm home, a small crowd had gathered listening to angelic tunes with smiles and laughs and both the angels inside lost themselves in the moment, blissfully happy and unaware of their presence. Things had became a bit harder for their little bird, but that would not take away a single one of these moments from them. Such was his joy as the Bird of God.
