Chapter 1: Ada Wong

Chapter Text

Leon sat down on the floor of the helicopter and glanced at the ring on his hand. It reminded him of a promise he made, years ago. To always be the other train passing in the night.

One helicopter ride, a train, and a short walk later, he was in front of an apartment complex. It was tall, grey, and nondescript. Just the way they needed it to be.

The elevator ride was short, and the only thing that Leon could do was pray that she got his ping.

Into the plain, cookie-cutter room he walked. And of course, it was empty. Of course, after a few days of hell, he couldn’t have one thing. Taking a deep sigh, he sat onto the plain couch and pulled out a phone. It was one of his burners, the kind he’d have to throw out once he used it for this stupid purpose, but if there was ever a time he needed to it was now.

The phone, of course, went to voicemail, the kind with no answering machine.

“Hey,” Leon said, putting as much warmth as he could into his tone. “Things got pretty bad again. I almost died… again. But I’m okay now. I know you’re probably busy, but could you come by sometime soon?” Leon hung up the phone before he could say anything more desperate. Seriously, had age just made him more sentimental?

(It hadn’t. He’d always been desperate when it came to her-)

“Hey stranger.” said a silky, familiar voice from the corner of the room.

Leon turned around and saw his wife. Well. Technically his wife. They’d gotten “married” once, after running into each other doing separate things in Vegas. To keep both of their cover’s, they pretended to be wasted and hid in a wedding shack. The owner had demanded they either get out or actually get married, and they took the option that didn’t blow their cover. Leon, the sentimental idiot he was, had never taken the cheap, simple wedding band he was given off.

Although looking at Ada’s hand, her ring was also still firmly in place all these years later.

“Hey stranger.” Leon said, grinning wide at the black haired beauty across the room. “Do you have time to sit for a minute?”

Ada rolled her eyes, but made her way over to the spot on the couch beside him anyways. “So, I take it you somehow stopped another massive bio-weapon operation single-handedly?”

“Yep.” Leon said with a grin, and wrapped an arm around Ada. Somewhere along the way, that sort of contact between them had become normal.  “Although I did have help. I always do.”

“Well, I’m glad you didn’t die.” Ada said, which was probably the greatest compliment she’d ever given Leon.

Leon chuckled. “Thanks. And what were you up to?” A thought dawned over Leon. “You weren’t in on this, were you?”

Ada’s face soured, and she turned away. “No. I was too busy.”

Leon tilted his head curiously and tried to make eye contact. “I figured when you didn’t answer a few days ago, but with what?”

Ada mumbled something, but Leon didn’t catch it.

“What was that? Listen, you don’t have to tell me if it’s-”

“I was looking for a cure!” Ada said abrubtly, and when Leon only looked dumbly back at her, she continued, “For your- Racoon City thing.”

Leon was… touched. “You were… Really?”

“Yeah.” Ada said, but frustration was etched into her brow. “But I didn’t find it. I checked everywhere, but-”

“Well, it’s no big deal.” Leon cut her off, and waved his gloveless hand in front of her face. “I’m cured.”

Ada stared at his clean, normal hand for a second, then up into Leon’s eyes. “You’re going to be okay?”

“Yep, I got checked out and everything. No contagion, no noth- urk!”

The second Leon said no contagion, a fair, strong hand reached out and grabbed the back of his head to pull him into a deep kiss.

The two came apart minutes later with a gasp, and Leon couldn’t stop grinning.

Ada looked upon him with those gorgeous eyes. “God, I missed you.”

And Leon Kennedy was promptly picked up and thrown onto the bed.

~~~
“So, where’d you find a cure?” Ada said as she carelessly drew lines over Leon’s chest scars.
“In Racoon City.” Leon said with a snort. “I got really lucky.”
Ada frowned at that. “So if I’d just followed my gut and followed you, I would’ve found it.”
“Your gut said to follow me?” Leon said dopily, “Does that mean you love me?”
Ada rolled her eyes once more and rolled off the bed. Leon blinked, and she was dressed back up in her usual mission outfit. Crap. That meant that she was about to leave.
“You didn’t answer.” Leon called out as Ada made her way towards the door.
“Keep wondering, loverboy.” Ada said with a wink, and just like that she was gone again.
But that was okay. Leon would always see her again.
