As a historian figure and ongoing student you wonder what was the life of important figures . Look no more then , here I am to show you what it was like .
The year is 1893, it can be remembered for a plethora of things , but we only need to remember one event for this year : the marriage between Marie , at the time of Edinburgh, and Crown Prince , still presumed yet not confirmed , Ferdinand of Romania . It was January so the weather was not forgiving , not so early in the year at least .
The Sigmaringen Castle was as beautiful as even , with the lake shinning and the garden that was beginning to show its first colors.
It was such a shame that the only one occupant of this beautiful sight had no eyes for it. Marie of Edinburgh, a young girl of only 17 years , all lived on an island .
She was quite distraught with this arrangement, when she finally managed to decline one marriage proposal she was forced with another , her mother was extremely happy with it , her and that weird king from Romania . Her mother was not mad or simply apathetic , truly , she loved her daughter. Her wishes were for Marie to live a happy life far from the English court and its suffocating royal life , queen Victoria was an interesting figure but she clearly wasn’t someone you could live under .
Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrovna of Russia was an avid hater , if I could say so myself, of the English lifestyle , as a loving mother she did all she could for her children , even if that meant arranging marriages for them that would be considered loveless and that would drive them away from English soil . She came to an accord with one of the rules of a ruling land of Europe , King Carol I , a rising personality among the royals , and a king to a newly formed land . His dinasty was not bad either, the Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen were an old German name that ruled over the land for quite some time . A marriage with them would no doubt be helpful in distancing her family from the esglidh life .
The king was not opposed , actually he was very happy , a girl from such an important family would elevate Ferdinand’s status , and as such would make him a respected ruler . His lack of children would not pose a problem anymore , since his government and officials would have to agree to such a Crown Prince . Maybe Ferdinand was a little shy , but that was nothing time couldn’t fix .
Back to our timeline , with our Marie and her unhappy marriage , with her uncertaine future and of course with her newlhusband. She couldn’t help but resent him for being part of this loveless marriage. To top it all up he was having an affair ! What was she to expect from this man , if he already loved someone , you can’t force someone to unlove a person and he clearly loved that woman. Not to mention the uncertainty of her future , a new country , for her but also for history itself , a young nation for a young girl , that’ seems fitting .
