Work Text:
It was a sunny day in Kalos, and in the forest surrounding Lumiose you could find Marinette and her parents, who were having a picnic to commemorate Marinette’s 8th birthday.
They were enjoying the day, when Sabine’s Meowth started to hiss at a bush. Startled, the humans decided to go check it out, only to find an small shiny Phantump being attacked by a few Fletchling.
Much to their surprise, Marinette ran forwards and tried to get the bird Pokemon to stop. When that did not work, she decided to use herself as a shield for the Phantump, making her parents jump to action. With Sabine telling her Meowth to attack the Fletchilings, and Tom letting out his Ursaluna to help out.
When the attacking Pokemon were gone, they turned around to see both Marinette and the Phantump were passed out from the attacks. At seeing that, they quickly each piked them up and rushed to the closest Pokemon center, only stopping to gater their picnic blanket and basket.
Once they arrived, Marinette was awake already as her injuries were minor, but she refused to leave the shiny Pokemon alone, insisting on going with it to make sure it recovered well. The nurses, finding it very endearing, allowed her to go with them and watch the healing of the Phantump.
Once it was healed, they led Marinette and the small Pokemon back to her parents, and asked if the Phantump was theirs, to which they explained what had happened.
The nurses were quite surprised, as the Phantump seemed to really like Marinette, and it seemed like the girl was pretty attached to them as well. Her parents looked to were both were siting, playing with some toys and, after sharing a quick look, they made a decision.
“Marinette, honey, could you please come here?” Tom asked.
“Of course, papa” she said, and turned to the Phantump, adding “come on Pipper, I want you to meet my parents”
The adults were surprised by that, as it appeared she had already named the Pokemon.
“Marinette dear, would you like a pokeball?” Sabine asked, much to the girl's surprise, while handing a healball to her.
“Wait, does that mean that Pipper can stay with me forever?” she asked, gently picking the offered ball and turning to the Pokemon, who looked just as happy as she felt.
As soon as the adults nodded their heads, the now named Pipper wasted no time getting into the pokeball. As soon as it was officialy caught, Marinette let them out and hugged the tiny Pokemon. Looking at her parents with so much happiness, she said.
“This is the best birthday ever!!!!”
